Will aid follow? No. No it won't. A bit. But not nearly enough.

No money in it.

Somehow, somewhere along the way the rich in the US forgot you can make money by building things...

Afghanistan has been the largest single recipient of American aid since the U.S.-led invasion to oust the Taliban in 2001, but despite billions of dollars in assistance more than half of its people still live in poverty. Much of the aid has gone to security efforts, and frustrated Afghans assert that untold amounts have been lost in corruption and mismanagement

This paragraph in the article says it all.  Giving aid is pointless.  The country is already in ruins, no amount of aid will change that.  Just leave them alone to rebuild as they see fit, as a religious autocracy or whatever.

Most pojntless war ever.  and you still see talking heads on US TV saying that leaving would be disastrous and would result in attacks on the US etc etc.

Most pojntless war ever

Another failed resource grab for American resource extracting industries. Only defense industries and their financiers have profited. If the US does in fact withdraw, my worry is where the next war will be.

The defense industries and their financiers have such enormous political power, the US has been in a state of perpetual war for decades, the US has huge reserves of weapons, has an ever increasing military budget, and a president who is not afraid to increase US debt to pay to keep the economy going by further subsidizing defense industries.

Quite possibly the biggest black hole in history.

Quite possibly the biggest black hole in history.

Started by a president from the supposed party of fiscal responsibility.

Hah.

Back then, people still believed that trope.

Eventually we will find out how much bribe money we have paid all these years to tribal leaders just like the British did in the 19th century. Going to make the money returned to Iran by Obama look like a pittance. Not a good deal but a least he got something for it which we have now squandered.

Reminds me of the end of the Vietnam war whereby most all the supplies we were delivering ended up on the black market and not furthering the war effort we expected the ARVN to be waging--we knew it and didn't do a thing. We just wanted out.

The US wants to bring its soldiers home from Afghanistan, what 20,000 US and UN forces remain, compared to Japan hosting approx 50,000 and South Korea approx 29000, how about bringing them home too, Nah! the US whats to remain in the Pacific for strategic reasons, they really couldn't care less about Afghanistan or the suffering that might occur if they just pull out without concrete assurances from the Taliban, because eventually the Taliban will govern Afghanistan whether the West like it or not. The Russians couldn't exact change and neither have the Americans after all these years and so much loss of life. Afghanistan is a tribal country, always was, Russia and the US underestimated the Taliban. Naturally I hope that aid will continue, not just to eliminate the suffering but also to rebuild the country ravaged by war.

People commenting here willy nilly need to know what US aid is, before they comment. You give with one hand, and you take with the other. That's all there is to know as far as US aid is concerned.

Afghanistan issues should have been handled by 150 special forces to take out Bin Laden with the approval of the Afghanistan govt, under high pressure if that was required.

The US tried to build thousands of schools. The US provided teaching materials in the hope that teaching equality for girls and women would "take" by the next generation. Men of the land didn't like that and destroyed the schools, prevented their daughters from attending, and made life harder for all women in their region.

It was more important to prevent girls from learning than to help their country. Another generation lost by fundamental religious men. In 2019, attacks on schools have tripled. https://time.com/5596809/afghanistan-education-school-attacks-unicef/

They don't want outside help. Afghanistan has the lowest literacy rate in the world at just 31%.

But the Taliban want outside money to line their pockets? NOPE! Pigheaded people need to be treated accordingly. That is sad for the children.
