The system has been broken for years, it's not perfect, granted, but it's a start at trying to strengthen our overly laxed immigration laws. The international immigration laws are all over the place and once that's better organized, the Trump administration and HS can put more focus domestically. It's probably going to be a mess for awhile.

I'm not buying that lame argument for a minute. All the Kurds, Christian and Yazidi minorities that were slaughtered in Iraq and Syria and Libya they did nothing and yet, millions were raped, beaten, beheaded, shot, way before Trump came on the scene, this all started to really blow up in 2010 and at that time, Trump wasn't on the radar and the president at the time didn't lift a finger to help these people as much as he could have.

The other 6 countries were designated as a security risk by the Obama administration over a year ago, and Trump has simply extended and slightly expanded existing barriers pending review of procedure.

In other words, what Trump has done is completely in line with existing policy. Nothing really new here, except the fake outrage. No one gave a damn when Obama cut visas to the Iranians.

Technically you are correct, in that the only country specifically named in the executive order is Syria. However, the order also says:

I hereby proclaim that the immigrant and nonimmigrant entry into the United States of aliens from countries referred to in section 217(a)(12) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12), would be detrimental to the interests of the United States

And that section does specifically refer to the countries in question. So while you are technically correct, it's not like the other countries aren't specifically referred to, as they are.

If reports are correct, it is completely different. All passport holders from the listed countries are being denied entry. Apparently this also includes those who have transit visas, and those who also hold passports for other countries.

And the more you let in now, the bigger this "homegrown" threat grows in the future. How hard is that to figure out? Belgium and a host of other European countries are examples of that. It's not like Japan or South Korea have to deal with this problem.
