Wow! These lockdowns are clearly over the top and rather than having their intended affect, they are doing all kinds of social damage!

Ridiculous authoritarian overreach. The longer this goes on, the more it is about authoritarianism rather than any virus. The CCP apparachiks must be smiling. CCP style population control everywhere!

The best way to deal with this is to get those infected, or exposed to the infected, isolated as fast as possible to contain further outbreaks. The latest hot spot shows there are still infected people in Melbourne that have not been identified. Until they are opening up fully is not an option, as it will spread like wildfire again.

People are looking forward to easing restrictions but some refuse to do the right thing and continue to spread this virus amongst the community drawing this out longer.

7 cases!

OMG lockdown forever!

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Protesters, many of whom did not wear masks, called for an end to lockdown restrictions.

Put these idiots in prison, they can spend time in close with the infected.

Agent X and Zaphod are 100% correct.

This is not about containing a virus that is only a little more dangerous than the flu (and to a very small % of the population), it's about social control and saving Andrews and co's skin after some bad decisions. Why else would police be harassing the owner of a bus that has anti-Daniel Andrews messages on it? The vast majority of these protesters are not crazies, they are ordinary people - many of them business owners - who want their lives back and understand there is very little risk to the vast majority of the population. And that the people who need to be protected are, without penalising everyone else.

When this virus was new and nobody really know much about it, there was a case for limited measures, but not anymore.

In relation to this, there is a very interesting interview with Dr Mike Yeadon, a long-time and highly accomplished biochemist from the pharmaceutical industry, on his take on why this virus is not the danger that governments, the mainstream media and pharma PR claim it to be.

I ask skeptics to give it a listen before dismissing it.

Scum protestors, thinking its so tough to smash poles into the faces of horses, sickening to watch. Fortunately the great majority of Melbournians are doing the right thing and condemn these violent trash.

@Agent X. World experts report more deaths from lockdown than SARS-CoV-2 deaths.

arrested for being protesting lockdown or house arrest for not having the virus

Say what? Both NSW and QLD reported zero new cases today.

Better watch it before Tube deletes it. Censorship on Tube is getting more extreme by the day. No dissent from the official narrative allowed!

I have to call BS on that. The lock downs have not caused any where near the over one million deaths from covid. Your "experts" are fake. Anything even remotely close to that would be on the front page of every paper in the world. Spreading such disinformation is a disgusting thing. Be ashamed.

People spreading such disinformation are the reason some places have a runaway spread of this virus. Listening to them or believeing them leaves everyone vulnerable. This is much more deadly than the Flu. This is classed as a "pandemic" by all the experts for a very good reason. Those spreading conspiracy theories should be taken with a grain of salt. The lock downs and other precautions are required to save lives. Simple as that. Advocating for no masks, no lock downs or other precautions is beyond irresponsible it is idiotic.

Do not listen to such idiots. They do not care about anyone but themselves.

How about these three medical scholars? Idiotic?

If the virus is as bad as you and some media factions purport, lockdowns are a very poor way if dealing with it...

Peter14, do you actually read/listen to people who challenge the mainstream narrative?

It will suddenly not seem so dangerous on November 4th.

I have earned 15,000 aud

Been on 3 vacations

Had dinner 7 dinners out

Attended 9 sports events

And one wedding

All while my hometown has had more daily cases than melbourne.

Sigh. The only thing in shorter supply than accurate information is adult self restraint. Sometimes there are events in the world that are bigger than you and require all of us to make some sacrifices. I know that rubs many the wrong way but once upon a time people seemed to have more ability to restrain their immediate wants and defer gratification for the sake of something greater.

People spreading such disinformation are the reason some places have a runaway spread of this virus. Listening to them or believeing them leaves everyone vulnerable. This is much more deadly than the Flu.

Current best estimate for infection fatality rate, as per CDC:

0-19 years: 0.00003 = survival rate 99.9997%

20-49 years: 0.0002 = survival rate 99.98%

50-69 years: 0.005 = survival rate 99.5%

70+ years: 0.054 = survival rate 94.6%

How "much more" deadly than the flue is this, exactly? Do you have data?

This is classed as a "pandemic" by all the experts for a very good reason.

Classing something as a "pandemic" does not mean fascist population control.

Those spreading conspiracy theories should be taken with a grain of salt. The lock downs and other precautions are required to save lives. Simple as that.

No, not as simple as that. The lockdowns come at a cost, including a cost human lifes, which can easily exceed that of the virus.

Advocating for no masks, no lock downs or other precautions is beyond irresponsible it is idiotic.

This is not a black-or-white issue. You can recommend some sensible measures without the Victorian overreach.

How "much more" deadly than the flue is this, exactly? Do you have data?

The number to focus on is the Infection Fatality Rate, in other words how many people who are infected end up dying. For a typical seasonal flu between 1 and 10 people die for every 100,000 who are infected. For Covid-19 there are between 500 and 1000 deaths for every 100,000 who are infected, This means Covid-19 is 50 to 100 times more deadly than the seasonal flu.

There is no verifiable data to support that claim. It is an allegation that has no basis in fact.

Whether lockdowns are useful, I don't know. It seems that without a vaccine, probably not going to happen, at some point everyone is going to suffer the illness. I can personally say Covid-19 is pretty bad. I was in bed for four days and it took another week to feel normal. Other people I know who have had the illness reported about the same course. I have felt much worse with a couple of other illnesses but it was pretty bad.

I think I may have had it last November. No one was aware of it then so they didn't test for it, but in hindsight my doctor thinks she had numerous patients with it late last fall. My doctor and health insurance haven't been able to arrange an antibody test and this late it's probably a waste of time. I was months recovering. The cough and fatigue would not go away.

A problem with Covid, and many other issues, is the expert worship that so many people engage in. Experts are often and indeed are usually wrong - sometimes dead wrong. A few examples are the wide spread avocation of trans-fats as being heart healthy, blood letting, the long lived claim by doctors and other experts that they could not transmit disease "A gentleman's hands are clean", the safety of DDT, agent orange, PCBs and many other chemicals and drugs. These people are just guessing and often poorly.

Sorry you clearly don't live in Japan, the government want and fund meals out, vacations etc.

In Japan many people such as myself are keeping the economy going, instead of living in fear thus causing mass unemployment like melbourne

According to Avi Yemeni who was there, this looks to be an antifa troublemaker who apparently had a Free Palestine t-shirt on and waving some "resist" banner.
