Its funny how we know more about the sources of the cluster infections in SK but hardly anything in JP apart from the odd traveller or bar-goer.

313 new cases in S.Korea today, and 493 in Tokyo alone!

Well yea, population of Japan (2018) 126.5 milion. Population of South Korea 51.64 million (2018).

He clearly mentioned TOKYO, population of 37.28 millions ...

:facepalm:

Oh dear. The ball's in your court now, Ossanamerica. Please tell us how Japan is doing the best out of all East Asian countries.

Will we go back and start asking for negative PCR for individuals flying from South Korea?

As far as I know, only foreigners (ie people who live here) coming BACK to Japan are forced to take a PCR test before setting foot here. Unless, of course, Japanese are immune to the virus.

And their government will encourage everyone who’s been in contact with the infected to go get a (free) test.

@gakinotsukai

It's actually even worse than that. Tokyo as included in the metropolitan government's figures is Tokyoto (東京都), about 14 million. The 37 million includes Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures, known as the Greater Tokyo Area.

This thing of not requesting PCR anymore to individuals flying from some countries, from the 1st November, is probably too rushed no?

Did he really say that?

That would be a hard sell but of course I don't know the justifications

Anyway, afair, doing as good as it seems, Japan is probably last out of all east asian countries, except N Korea because no data from there, if based on mortality rates alone

But I guess a lot of factors should be taken into account when considering how well countries are doing with regards to covid19.

Such factors as state of economy, well being of population, quality of life, govt support, health care , such things

Maybe the virus doesn’t understand prayers in Hangul so well. My bet would be, it doesn’t care about them at all.

@AG

I agree...

I always say keep the borders close as long as there is no safe vaccine. (Except for permanent residents with negative PCR tests).

But people always complain about this opinion of mine.

@Nihonview: Agreed, testing and testing and testing is an absolute waste of taxpayers money. I just don't understand, if the results take 2-3 days to get back to you and you were positive then the time that you should have been isolated is already beginning to pass . I do support testing for travel, and straight away in the workplace if someone is sick and tests positive. But this blanket, random testing that many on this website are calling for AND lockdowns...its ALL a waste of money and detrimental to the economy.

@Monty - I agree with you 100%
