Humans have been genetically modifying wheat for something like 3000 years. Every single cultivated crop derived from a wild plant has been genetically modified. Selective breeding is genetic modification.

What USA needs to do is to ban the practice of GMO. It is infesting this world. They can start by having label laws as they do in Japan. When buying products in Japan look for the labels. 非遺伝子組み換え。Hi Idenshikumikae. Non GMO.

Not only did the GMO labeling law get voted down but Monsanto has a federal "Monsanto protection act" in place

Hungary is way ahead of Japan when it comes to dealing with genetically modified crops.

Hungarian farmer explains how they defeated Monsanto: "We burned the GMO crops and banned them forever -- the opposite of what America does."

Way to go Japan! In the U.S., they will give us anything and nobody says anything about it. At least you have sense enough to reject something that humans shouldn't be eating! Genetically engineered wheat, meat, milk, etc, etc.

No Craig, but you can bet they'll try to sue farmers whose crops have been inadvertently infected.

Farmers are liable to prosecution if they use seeds from crops grown from Monsanto seeds. Will Monsanto now be liable for the financial losses due to the promiscuous behavior of their plants sowing genes where they were not invited?

So stupid. If people do not want GMO then do not ship it to them. It puts the entire food export industry at risk

USA and it´s Monsato agriculture is already a big threat to the world. If USA keeps their lenient practice towards GMO. One of 2 things will happen. Either Japan becoming a TPP member will have as lenient laws as USA or Japan will start to import grains from else where.

So far USA´s major industrial agricultural leader Monsato is banned or has been removed in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, France, and Switzerland.

Sounds like the tip of the ice berg. Monsanto will try anything for profits.

Farmboy,

I have found your opinions on this subject very educational and interesting. This seems to be one example where it seems quite dangerous to tamper with nature. This is stuff we put in our bodies after all.
