Arema FC supporters at the Kanjuruhan stadium stormed the pitch late on Saturday after their team lost 3-2 to the visiting team and bitter rivals, Persebaya Surabaya.

I hear that the winning goal was made by a Japanese player. I'm wondering if he's safe.

The BBC now says the figure has been lowered to 125.

From the BBC:

Indonesian officials at one stage put the death toll in the disaster as high at 174 people, but this was later revised downwards.

Well, it's something that happens with certain normality in soccer..

Soccer does seem to attract a certain kind of fan.

Totally true, especially in third world countries where soccer is religion..

Another avoidable tragedy caused by the "Keystone-cop" incompetence of the trigger-happy Indonesian police.

You missed the part about two policemen being killed?

Soccer attracts more than its fair share of trouble makers. But these are not usually the ones ending up dead.

It seems not until TWO Policemen were KILLED did they fire teargas:

Police, who described the unrest as "riots", said they tried to persuade fans to return to the stands and fired tear gas after two officers were killed.

Not exactly “Trigger Happy” unless that’s NOT what really happened.

Another avoidable tragedy caused by the "Keystone-cop" incompetence of the trigger-happy Indonesian police. Condolences to the victims. As in the case of the families of the Hillsborough victims they can expect no justice from the authorities.

The largest numbers killed at a game.

No it's not, in 1964, a total of 320 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured during a stampede at a Peru-Argentina Olympic qualifier in Lima.

Apparently FIFA bans Tear Gas at Soccer matches. The Police here, clearly mishandled the situation and as a result we have a large loss of life. Hillsborough all over again, just a different Country.

It must have been very crowded. Hopefully they were wearing masks.
