Pakistan has some of the most fertile soil in the world for extreme Islamist ideologies to take root. It's no surprise that the Islamic State has found significant support there among the populace. This is very much in keeping with a long tradition of various domestic and international Islamist terrorists finding a comfortable home in Pakistan.

Add to this the Pakistani military's ongoing love-affair with anything Islamist and you end up with this unholy mess.
