The U.N. should be disbanded.
RKL
Move it there, without US participation.
wallace
The US will never give up its seat on the Security Council, just unrealistic to believe so.
RKL
That's a belief Europeans hold. But the reality is, it is highly possible.
The US is the security for the world.
Jim Dandy
How can there be trust with politicians who pursue self interest and religious supremacy?
Taliban, various Muslim groups killing westerners driving trucks down roads Full of people, hijacking planes and flying them into buildings, Americans making up WMD to justify an invasion, Russians with never ending imperialistic goals, Chinese claiming whole oceans as their own and pushing around their little neighbors.
It's ugly out there folks.
OssanAmerica
Kick Russia out of the UN. Or at least off the UNSC.
And tell China the same will happen to them if they invade Taiwan.
Otherwise the UN is a total joke.
wallace
Russia and China would love the US to give up its Security Council seat.
wallace
Like the illegal invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and the bombing of Pakistan, Libya, and Syria. How do the 1,000,000 dead civilians feel about US security?
Algernon LaCroix
The UN only has itself to blame. Power without accountability tends to erode trust.

Historical facts, WHY for China's RISE Most deem WAR 'Garbage', especially Global South due to above WARS.
Not sure Sudan, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. feeling so FREE these days either FYI but NICE tagline!
Clay
Why are history facts about US led Wars across entire GLOBE post WWII being suppressed?
What could possibly be more at the ROOT of this anger and divide globally than WAR, causing this UN division?
It's Clear China's offering something different, otherwise why did 1.5 billion Muslims just celebrate China's peace diplomacy between Suni and Shia, Saudi Arabia and Iran, covered here in JT?
TaiwanIsNotChina
What even makes you think Russia and China would? They even flouted the rules, in the case of Russia, to claim their seat.

More countries in the United Nations want to see the US to be kicked out and her allies get out forever. Remember the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan 20 years ago, when Collin Powell using the detergentsdetergent calling it WMD. Where are the END in Iraq? Answer the world now! If the two tragedies inflicted to those people can be forgotten than what does IN existing for? The U.N. is a tool America using to justify her war overseas!

MANY Globally Angry at HISTORIC Westen Central Bank Money Printing & Balance Sheet expansion. Why?
Because this NEW money competes for things like FOOD and ENERGY, Global INFLATION in these areas causing historic levels of Malnutrition and Starvation.
Not Kinetic but Financial in nature, UN divide reflects.

The US was attacked from Afghanistan, lest you forget. Completely legal to try and sort the place it came since the Taliban was unwilling.
Pakistan now on the list? What is this in reference to the numerous terrorists hiding there? Not sad at all to take them out.
Is that a reference to the garbage number of millions and millions from the Iraq War? Seek Better Sources.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Just providing balance that Russia is now in the shameless category with the US. Forever on the same level.
How many of that billion are in China's jails?
TaiwanIsNotChina
I believe some sources are in order. 141 countries told Russia to get out of Ukraine, I know that much.
No but I do remember sourpuss Lavrov cynically claiming that only Russia's security matters and that Russia didn't do anything (but start illegal wars and war crime apparently).
We're literally not at war rn in terms of the service members.
Clay
Big risk remains NON-State actors, like terrorists but also the RISE of 'mercenary' forces backed by states. Eg. Wagner Group. Many similar Chinese groups now exist, land, air and water based.
It's clear Afghanistan now harboring such terrorists and their activities if one believes current reporting, including recent leaked US CIA intel as reported on by progressive journalists like Salon.
Failed states of course harbor other dangerous types like drug cartels, organized crime, etc.
UN unfortunately toothless regarding NON State Actors
Dr.Cajetan Coelho
Transparency, respect, dialogue, sense of justice, and trust are vital for an ethically constructive worldbuilding.
Clay
Exactly, yet those in power do EXACT opposite as do the institutions they control. Think banking crisis, war, pandemic, inflation, terrorism, climate change,
Only transparency we get is leaked US CIA intel!
Central Banks have unleashed an Inflation tsunami on the world and its never even mentioned while MANY starve as a result, US endless wars, and AI's surely heading down this dark path as well, it's clear.
It's done to destabilize and control people, markets, resources, and countries political systems. What UN DIVIDE's SHOUTING OUT, China's BIG beneficiary as their global track record's LOT Better, no baggage/failure yet unlike West/see above!
If you speak out your called names, because all this activity is for 'democracy and freedom' after all. Tell that to the fine people in Afghanistan staring at the abyss.
ian
You mean the police.
And they seem to act the same as the police in the US

So, what does the majority of the world have to say? Choosing to focus so positively on the NATO bloc's voices, and frame Russia and China's voices as untrustworthy narratives by isolated rogues is certainly easy, but what about the voices from Latin America, Africa, and the rest of Asia? They make up the MAJORITY of the member states of the UN, the majority of the population of the world, the majority of the democracies of the world, and the balance of economic activity in the world.
Aren't their views worthy of note?
Even if, or maybe ESPECIALLY if, they conflict with the framing of the article?
RichardPearce
Interesting that the people advocating throwing Russia out of the UNSC for its invasion and occupation of Ukraine aren't also advocating throwing America out of the UNSC for its invasion and occupation of Syria.
That's a pretty stark example of "blowing hot and cold"
TaiwanIsNotChina
141 countries did tell Russia to get out of Ukraine
So we're back on Syria now? Russia also going to be thrown out for THAT? Iran? Turkey? Israel?
You're a pretty stark example of "blowing hot and cold"
RichardPearce
Taipei is China, are you saying that Russia's bases in Syria are illegal? Because then the US bases in Japan (and Bahrain etc) are also illegal by your logic.
TaiwanIsNotChina
If we were directly engaged in combat operations in civil wars in Japan and Bahrain, yeah.
RichardPearce
So, then the bases on Taipei are illegal, aren't they. And the American base on Cuba.
2020hindsights
RichardPearce
There are no US bases in Taipei.
