Well that total lock down really worked.

adding pressure on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to speed the rollout of booster shots.
Because your initial premise is dead wrong. It does prevent cases. But it is less effective against the new variant. Getting a booster greatly increases your immunity and chance of getting infected.

a booster shot from six months to four months.
Not at all. The efficiency was for original covid - it's expected that it would be less effective against variants.
What? No. Those people were dead wrong. The vaccine is very effective against catching the original and the Delta variant. It's also effective against serious illness and hospitalisation. However, wit this new variant and it's many mutations, it is a lot less effective.
The good news is that getting a booster greatly increases the effectiveness.

Just about all the 33 patients in ICU are unvaccinated.
Says it all. Get vaccinated and get the booster when the time comes.

I'm sorry to hear that your evening was entirely occupied by thinking about a post on the internet. That is deeply upsetting for me to hear. I hope you can find a meaningful hobby soon.

Zero Covid plus vaccines do work but only for as long as everyone follows it fully. When just a few get tired of it and no longer social distance and wear masks and sanitize often, that is enough for the extremely virulent virus to spread quickly.
Omicron could have been with us much sooner if not for the early success of zero covid in many places. If a new variant comes out that greatly increases the mortality rate you will find new supporters for zero covid. If it got up to Ebola mortality rates everyone would expect a zero covid policy and would demand vaccines immediately, no matter if they were tested traditionally over ten years or fast tracked.

No they weren't. Seatbelts prevent fatalities in car accidents. They don't make you invincible.

It should be noted that this outbreak started a week after the lockdown restrictions were lifted. It should also be noted that the majority of cases come from an idiot who broke isolation and went to a venue with 400 people, half of which caught the virus. He was fined $10,000, but set the fight against the virus back a year.

Not sure what you are talking about. Works fine in Singapore.

None of the measures so far taken give total protection and some of them are just illusory. After 2 years that should be clear. Get vaxxed seems best to avoid harm.

The vaccine does not prevent cases. So why would this be the solution to rising cases?
Lindsay
From tonight’s 6pm Australian news. There are 4,000 cases in the Hunter New England region. From that 4,000 there are only 14 in hospital and only 1 in the ICU. This is the result of having nearly 90% of the population double vaccinated. Vaccinations won’t stop the spread, but the lessen the effects and keep you out of hospital.
Monty
a booster shot from six months to four months.
It is getting shorter and shorter...
It clearly seems that the effenciency of our first 2 shots are not as well as predicted and promoted.
But that was expected by many people, but nobody believes them or wanted to listen what they were saying...
Blacklabel
except that none of that is accurate. a vaccine does not prevent someone from getting COVID. As many vaccinated people have COVID right now.
there is also no such thing as a vaccine being "less effective" as this is a binary matter relating to COVID cases. You are either a COVID case or you are not. Vaccinated people can be either. you cant be "kind of" infected. Its either positive, or negative.
there is also no such thing as increasing "immunity". You are either immune or you are not. Seen any polio "breakthrough" cases?

What faulty logic. This is the classic black-or-white fallacy. It doesn't prevent 100% of people getting COVID, but it prevents many people from getting covid.
No it's not. Again, black-or-white fallacy.
Dead wrong again. There is absolutely such a thing as increasing immunity.

Hmmmm.....all those vaccine skeptics out there should listen to this guy - he's telling people not to "play into their hands" by not taking he vaccine....
Former President Donald Trump urged his supporters on Sunday to get a booster shot of one of the COVID-19 vaccines to protect themselves against the Omicron variant, telling them they were "playing right into their hands" by doubting the vaccines.
"Look, we did something that was historic," he said. "We saved tens of millions of lives worldwide.
He added that without the vaccine, millions more people would have died from the virus.
"You're playing right into their hands when you're sort of, like, 'Oh, the vaccine,'" he said, referring to those of his supporters who have expressed hesitancy about or opposition to the vaccine.
So, do they agree with him? Doesn't seem like it from the booing he received....

Wonderful, it'll be 4 months to be fully vaxxed, now I'm unvaxxed so rip up that ticket I have to go back

Well, we've seen this before...in South Korea, Singapore, etc. Zero COVID policy plus reliance on vaccines doesn't work.
Sven Asai
Sorry, but how can you know that? It (means a zero COVID strategy including ONE time limited harsh virus extinguishing lockdown) hasn’t been even tried once anywhere, although there had been 2 years plenty of time. No, it has instead been denied, people who suggested have been attacked and silenced, and now everybody is wondering about the developments , the much longer time it takes while killing people and economy, and monster mutations occurring? That’s not how you can ever do it, neither treating people such nor having any success with that so-called ‘let’s live with the virus’ strategy. It’s all been done completely misleading and erroneous right all the time since autumn/winter 2019.
Blacklabel
the word is use now is the vaccine "protects against" COVID. Same as a vaccine used to "grant immunity" now it also "protects against" (the actual definition of vaccine was even changed)
so all of this means a vaccine is some advanced level of "better than nothing" in COVID prevention.
But the issue in this article is how to decrease the number of cases of COVID...and vaccination is not the answer.
So instead of denying that- what is the answer to decrease the number of COVID cases? (to prevent people from catching COVID)
Express sister
It does, actually.
Monty
No requirements to wear masks or socially distance, even indoors in public places.
That is exactly the point!
Like I said in another article today:
Masks and social distance gives you more protection than the vaccine! (In my opinion)
Hervé L'Eisa
Masks have "limited effectiveness", or at least that's what the "science" USED to say.
A vaccine USED to actually confer immunity to a specific disease(polio, small pox, tuberculosis,...) but now those definitions seem to no longer apply.
The covid shots have devolved into a dubiously effective shot not much unlike the annual influenza shots.
The GOOD news in all of this is that acquired immunity from a covid infection is XX-times more potent than jabs.
I hope the good people of NSW survive not only this wave, but also the governmental knee-jerk reactions that are likely to be coming.
bob
Record new covid cases and rising ICU admissions in a very vaccinated country like Australia. The vaccine fetishists out there have long since put 2 and 2 together, and they know they've been lied to.
But it's more than that. Their need to acquiesce - to call for further mandates and further vaccinations is to demonstrate their faith in the "Authorities"(TM)
Its a cult. The absence of data that supports their cause is the feature, not the bug.

And? I doubt that anyone thought that Omicron would become worldwide. What is your point?
Ingvar
I was listening to a guy giving a lecture. He stated the strangest thing. Previously if one was vaccinated against this or that disease, one didn't have to worry whether the other people in the elevator or wherever were vaccinated or not because you were protected. Strange.
Blacklabel
does the vaccine prevent COVID. It does not. Everyone was previously in agreement of that.
You can make as many excuses as you want but "vaccination" will not decrease the number of COVID cases when vaccinated people are COVID cases too.
