Great to see Scotty reflecting on the horror of war and on the same day threatening China with war over the Solomon Islands.

threatening China with war

in the alt right lexicon, are 'sanctions' synonymous with 'war'.

I read that Morrison was considering 'sanctions'.

And I have read the alt right pro-Russia, pro-China crowds posts claiming that western sanctions do not negatively affect states like China, Russia and North Korea, i.e. the nations whose economies are based on systems of state-capitalism. But I don't read the same sources those who push the Kremlin's propaganda do. So if sanctions do not have harmful effects on Russia, China and North Korea why would those nation's supporters and the alt right care what Morrison says.

@Rodney I doubt he is threatening China with war over the Solomons. I think you read too much into the article, however it is a cause for concern.

Went to a dawn service in Perth today, great turnout and good to be able to go again after the last few years of Covid restrictions. Saw an amazing sunrise on the drive home, hope peace will prevail in the coming year.

Lest we forget.

@Rodney Yes, Scottmo is always nasty and so does his sidekick Dutton. Australia didnt change much after giving up "White Australia" policy 1973.

When I learnt someone compared Solomon islands as "Little Cuba 1962", I laughed with head shaking!

You know what I mean: Australia acting as U.S., Solomon acting "Cuba under Castro", China acting the USSR.

In case anyone was puzzled like me with the "Vendetta Veterans" banner in the photo, Vendetta was the name of a warship and the Vendetta Veterans’ Association was formed by people serving on that ship.

“An arc of autocracy is challenging the rules-based order our grandparents had secured,” Morrison said, referring to China, Russia and North Korea. “And democratic, free peoples are standing together again."

Interesting contrast between the progressive and productive approach Australia has taken against COVID, that allows for restrictions to be safely reduced, while the autocratic China is now doing the opposite, crushing personal freedoms while fighting countless outbreaks around the country.

In the long term true democracies (even if flawed) are the ones that overcome the problems because they have to confront them instead of falling in a vicious circle of control and deception.

An arc of autocracy..... referring to China Russia, North Korea

Where is Saudi Arabia ? Scottmo's body language was never been profound and very hypocritic.

Yes maybe the Saudis has no idea how to build ballistic missiles!
