Good step, Australia. Let's keep moving forward, all of us.

This isn't necessary.

Indigenous Australians already have representation in Parliament as they are Australian citizens.

unless they reside out of Australia for 6 years or more and are booted off of the electrol roll and disenfranchised to vote - like any other Australian.

No need for a divisive Constitution based solely on racial lines imo.

Only in these demonized white countries everyone has a voice.

"Indigenous Voice". I like the ring of this. Turn it up to 11, and push it to a global scale. Give anyone in any nation the ability to propose a bill, and let anyone be able to anonymously vote, without the intervention of any local dictator.

Try actually reading the article...

If the referendum succeeds, the constitution would state that the “Voice may make representations” to the Parliament and government “on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

What new is a voice without any actual power to do anything?

The Australian government on Thursday released the wording of a referendum question that promises the nation’s Indigenous population a greater say on policies that effect their lives.

Can't even get through the first sentence without a mistake.

And this is not because of a shortage of goodwill or good intentions on any side of politics and it’s not because of a lack of funds.

So obviously and logically nothing will change in practice afterwards, even if they had a ten-fold number of election voting rights or the whole constitution would exist of only and nothing else than Indigenous Voices.

@weareone

I’m 4th generation Australian, but not Aboriginal, does that make me a ‘guest’ in my own country? And what would my nationality be? Last time I checked my passport it said Australian.

I really hope we can all ‘move as one’ going forward.
