Some of the Iraqi political circles want the US out of Iraqi as much or more than most Americans want us out. They know that the whole war bit was just to get the hands of US petroleum corporations on their oil.

The Australians would have stayed if they thought it was a war worth fighting for. Thankfully, no Australians have died for nothing.

Pity we can't say the same about Americans.

"The Australians would have stayed if they thought it was a war worth fighting for. Thankfully, no Australians have died for nothing."

Aussie troops, America's staunchest allies when it comes to actually standing shoulder to shoulder, complained they were never really allowed to fight in Iraq.

"Australian soldiers 'ashamed' at lack of action in Iraq and Afghanistan"

“The restrictions placed on deployed elements as a result of force protection and national policies have, at times, made infantrymen ashamed of wearing their Australian uniform,” Major Hammett wrote.

Super Delegate - looks like Australia's presence was - like Japan's - just for show to convince the American public that there were actually other countries that supported your government in the so-called "War on Terror."

Looks like the truth is coming out now though....

Oz was paid hard cash by the US to participate! Revealed last week in Washington. As was the UK. Coalition of the willing? Coalition of the billing!

The US paid even more to keep France out.

No, but at least george bush stopped it from being sold on the europeon market. Stopped it from being sold for anything besides USD, until...

That's why they want us out. Trying to keep their oil from us.

Get the hell out of Iraq. Bring the troops home.

Stop this bottomless pit of an attempted robbery.

Ha!! Ha!! Iraq may kick us our and still sell their oil for euros VS USD. < :-)

Superlib,

"The US paid even more to keep France out"

Heh, what's that supposed to mean?

Good on the Aussies.

I reckon they are reducing troops because the Iraqi gov't is at last starting to stand on its own two feet.

Madverts: I don't think I need to tell you not to take anything that superlib/RR/LM says seriously; we all know that when he chews away on his 'patriot fries' at Mickey D's he's secretly hating himself, especially since France is superior to the US in its stance on Iraq, and certainly the French president (and past ones) are far more intelligent than the shrub.

As it is, he and others like him will once again try to name call and pick on the nationals that are not American in an attempt to make them feel superior. They're not, of course, but like all insecure people they need to beat on others to make themselves try to feel better.

Only Reality reckons he's keeping his election promise, and retreating from the dwindling coalition.

It's amazing the up-beat comments coming from invasion's cheer-leaders - like the British in Basra, they're getting out of the muddle while they still can.

Right for a change. France was one of Iraq's biggest weapons suppliers, after Russia and China - who of course also opposed regime change and liberation.

"combat mission"

I have nothing but praise for the brave Australian troops who risked their lives in Iraq, but in 5 years no combat deaths? They couldn't have been engaged in any serious combat.

"France is superior to the US in its stance on Iraq"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Good one, Smitty!

I remember clearly that during early invasion stage of Iraq, the Australian SAS did play an active ,dangerous front line role nut suffered no casualty. And I don't know about America has been paying Australia but I always hear that PM Rudd complains that Iraq 's war has been costing Australia too much.

“We have to praise the role of the Australian troops in stabilizing the security situation in the province through their checkpoints on the outskirts of the city,” said Aziz Kadim Alway, the governor of the Dhi Qar province.

Nuff said
