"There is only one country that I know of that regularly practices collective punishment."

You obviously don't know much.

"deport the families of the convicted." There is only one country that I know of that regularly practices collective punishment.

Militant Islam.....I'm getting tired of reading about it in the papers every day.

It's so commonplace it hardly qualifies as news anymore. It reminds me of that scene in the movie "Brazil" where a terrorist bomb goes off in a restaurant and everyone just keeps on eating.

Crime like this was almost unthinkable as recently as twenty years ago. Somalis conspiring with Lebanese to murder Australian soldiers in Melbourne.

Bring back treason and sedition laws, apply the maximum penalty in this case, and deport the families of the convicted.

Islam... I can remember when I didn't have to think about it/them at all.

I wonder if any of the Japanese police have read this article. An arrest before a crime? What a foreign concept!

"Terrorist" in Australia. No indication of the ideology that motivates them.

Read the first line again. It says they are suspected of links to a Somali Islamic extremist group. I think that's a pretty clear indication of their ideology!

Wow. You're kidding! And here Den Den had me convinced that they were just a bunch of innocent patriotic Aussie do-gooders... : )

ratpack:

" they were Australian citizens "

A fundamentalist muslim is a citizen of the world-wide Ummah first, and a national citizen (of Australian or whatever else) next. In fact, fundamentalist islam does not respect national identities, since the only ultimately acceptable form of government is the world-wide Caliphate.

Inform yourself and wake up.

"Terrorist" in Australia. No indication of the ideology that motivates them. They could be Southern Baptists, or Buddhists, right? Welcome to the politically correct world of journalism.

"terrorists" or just getting revenge for Australian aggression in Muslim lands? Although I disagree with all forms of violence, at least their target was supposedly a military one.

Sad when you consider they were Australian citizens planning to attack Australian citizens. Sad world full of hate and revenge.

Just read about this on the Sydney Morning Herald website. Good to see it was knocked on the head before the blood started flowing. Give these clowns due process and imprison them, never to be released.
