Sounds good, but returning to Japan probably requires testing, some kind of quarantine and special envoy from the airport. No thanks. I'd love to visit Australia this winter, but not deal with all that.

Well, I can empathize. My own country is a disgrace, both the government and a significant number of the people.
You learn to live with it.

Time for a wine tasting holiday in WA.

That is a REALLY BAD idea.
Nailed it! As usual.

Kumagaijin: Best you avail yourself of the latest rules and regs then rather than just guessing.

Taiwan, ok. Even HK. But Japan? Do the Australians know how many cases are cropping up in Japan everyday, even with the low number of testing?

IMO, it would be best to be very, very careful, and to err on the side of caution, until a vaccine is available and used.

Currently only Aust citizens and permanent residents are allowed in . . . . after completing two weeks quarantine in an approved facility. Any traveller to Australia would also have to complete 2 weeks in quarantine before being released. Add to that, 2 weeks on their home country, and you've got a month staring at the 4 walls of a hotel room for any given trip.

Three days. Alright. Let in travelers from afar, as long as they have cash. Why worry about another wave of coronavirus brought on by tourists. No matter: the citation is missing the critical information that deems travel by the middle of next year. Besides the fact there actually are not any low risk countries.

@Pukey2
Exactly. Japan is by no means a low-risk country in comparison with many other Asian nations.
