Australia has been moving worryingly in the direction of authoritarianism.

That is a weird article. I fully expect the CCP affiliated journalists to write misinformation. It is quite appropriate to point that out, and it is quite appropriate the hostage justice of the CCP in China. But "threaten"? The government should not run a Ministry of Truth.

I think Dutton might be sending a message to/mocking the CCP by using their own language against them.

That said, their irony would be lost on them, and the measure might backfire if there are any Australian journos remaining in China.

I've been saying it for ages on JT: Australia has been moving in a very worrying direction these past few months. It is no longer the fun, free, and relaxed country I remember from the 80s and 90s.

NK invaded SK and killed hundreds of thousands of Asians. Australia has the right to sail in international waters like any other nation no matter where those waters are. China is trying to steal international waters and bully everyone about it.

NK executes those who oppose or disagree with their leader with anti aircraft guns and imprisons families for watching western movies. Australia does not arrest citizens from walking outside their homes or meeting friends. It will arrest people who break laws and during the current pandemic that includes meetings over a certain number of people. This is for public safety until the danger has passed.

I am not a friend of the CCP propaganda media, but how about the Western fake media? Are they also going to censor CNN, BBC; MSNBC, NYT, Guardian, and all the rest of the biased media that constantly spreads "slanted news"?

I think the cure is worse than the disease here.

China has been attacking Australia on so many fronts, it's not cool. Some posters have even in the past stated that Australia is not even a country? Look after your own first and if that requires constant monitoring and education camps that's your problem not Australia's. Don't hate because life is better somewhere else.

Nope, those are the least fake ones, that is why I did not list them. Not perfect by any means, but at least some occasional real news there, in contrast to the uniform nauseating political disinformation propaganda at CNN, BBC, MSNBC, NYT, Guardian, Independent, ABC, NBC, NPR et al (in no particular order).

I could be wrong but reading it I got the vibe that the threat applied to all journalists, not just those from China.
