These moves are repugnantly trampling in the Palestinians.

Sad world we live in, I stand by Palestinians right to breath.

It's embarrassing to be an Australian now I understand how Americans must feel.

"We're committed to a two-state solution, but frankly it hasn't been going that well, not a lot of progress has been made, and you don't keep doing the same thing and expect different results," Morrison said.

Tell that to the successive Israeli govts who have treated the Palestinians abominably for 70 years.

Good. Why should anyone not listen to the country in question...the Israelis claim Jerusalem as their capital so that's where embassies should be located. Out of respect for other groups who claim that Israel should not even exist is no reason to balk at the norm. What would Japan think if someone claimed Kyoto or Osaka as the capital and placed their embassy in those cities out of respect for some group who did not recognize Tokyo as the capital?

Israel took Jerusalem during the six day war as recently as 1967. The fact that Jerusalem holds the highest symbols of Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, and Judaism makes it the last place on earth to play politics and religion. And you know that.

What would Japan think if someone claimed Kyoto or Osaka as the capital and placed their embassy in those cities out of respect for some group who did not recognize Tokyo as the capital?

This makes no sense? You've got this the wrong way round. The Palestinians are not claiming Tel Aviv as their capital. It was historically the Israeli capital and it is the Israelis who want to make a statement and make Jerusalem their political capital.

Australia would really look stupid if they follow in this 'monkey see, monkey do' game. The state of Israel deserves to exist but the Palestinians deserve their self-determination too. And Israel has been blockading Gaza just to snuff out a bunch of bandits. We can't return things back to what they were in the past but we can stop this crap from repeating itself.

Its like saying progress between Japan and North Korea is not being made so as a totally independent nation we're going to fully support North Korea... Only the current Australian government thinks like that..

Yep. That's what the conservative governments there have always done when it's their call. Embarrassed to be Australian right now. And can't wait for the Coalition to be booted out. There is certainly nothing to go back to right now...

For decades Western Governments have listened to Palestinian rhetoric, paid hundreds of millions of dollars to the Palestinian Government while these people have never made an effort to seek lasting peace with Israel. So it would stupid to continue doing the same thing again and again then wondering why a different result isn't achieved - the West should move all their Embassies and cut off funding to the Palestinians.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Good on the Aussies.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

How can a middle class society with resources and education stoop this low?

I'm not sure whether you're a real poster or some kind of clickbait troll.

The vast majority of the educated and well-read world, independent of this crisis, know exactly what is going on in Israel. Palestinian 'rhetoric' is justified by their children being shot dead for throwing stones.

If you want to cut off funding to the Palestinians (for what I'm not sure - maybe for losing even more land to Israeli settlers?) then you sure as hell should cut off business ties with Israel for their hate crimes shooting Palestinian children.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Tigers; actually, yeah. Stop throwing stones and you won't get shot. Pretty simple really. If the Palestinians stopped protesting violently, and shooting rockets into Israel, the death toll would drop to zero.

They had four shots to take Israel, in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973. Lost every time. Perhaps a new strategy is in order, such as actually resettling in other Muslim countries? Every other displaced group from World War Two resettled within a few years. Only the Palestinians were held hostage by their Muslim "brothers", fed false dreams of revenge and reconquest, and used as proxies for battles their brothers were too cowardly to fight for themselves.

Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel.

Embassies should be in the capitol city.

What is so hard to understand?

If the USA decided to move the capitol to St. Louis, wouldn't all the countries place an embassy there? The country gets to decide where their capitol is located on land they control. Simple.

Palestinians have had decades to move the peace process forward. They haven't. Israel didn't start the conflict with Jerusalem, but it appears they will be ending it.

Stop throwing stones and you won't get shot. Pretty simple really.

The British, where I'm from, had exactly the same situation in Northern Ireland. The British took Irish land in the North which led to terrorism against them in protest. After Bloody Sunday (1 incident) I don't recall British soldiers shooting children in the head for throwing stones. And I remember my city of London and its inhabitants getting blown up by terrorist bombs. What did that slow pacifism lead to? Oh yeah that's right, a peace settlement and an end to the terrorism. But I guess the Israelis always felt they were the chosen ones and a bit special.

British paras were awarded medals for shooting rights marchers on that fateful day.

This is the last, desperate ploy for the government to hold on to power. They think their constituents are mugs and they will be severely punished for it at the coming by-election and election. Unfortunately the idiots responsible for this mess such as Abbott will retain their seats and cause more destability for future governments.

I don't deny the crime that it was. But the BIG difference is that one awful crime led to a politically correct engagement in terms of children throwing rocks not being shot in the head. And despite shocking IRA terrorism the British agreed to peace. The difference to recognising humanity or continuing with middle ages barbarism.

As usual, Australia government don't know which direction to take, they have to look up to USA to follow their lead.

Actually it was Israel that started all of this, and no they wont be ending it. This story never ends and the ones on top will change over and over through time.

A disgusting move by the Aussie PM and yes, it also makes me ashamed of my countries proposed action. The Israeli Government has morphed into the monster. Israel has done nothing to move the peace process forward but to steal more Palestinian lands, to turn Gaza into a Ghetto where everyone is prisoner from birth to death. and point the finger at the oppressed for no peace. Israel wants to leave crumbs for the Palestinians and expects them to be grateful the scraps. Israel is completely and utterly to blame for no peace and no two state solution.

My pity over the treatment of Jews during WWII remains, but for today's Israel I have zero sympathy or support for them. Many Australians are feeling the same way as the years pass and Israel plays the victim card repeatedly, while holding all the cards and being on top with all the options.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This would be a provocatively bad move that will stoke further resentment from the Palestinians.

Rather than support Israel, Australia should take them to task for thier brutal occupation, forcible evictions from homes and land etc, etc.

Finally, they should join most of the rest if the world in pressuring Israel to compromise sufficiently to make a lasting and reasonable two state peace deal possible.

Moving an embassy to the Israeli regime onto territory it is illegally occupying and ethnically cleansing is the equivalent of recognizing the Bantustans as separate states from the White State in South Africa when it existed.

Or, put another way, declaring parts of Poland to be Germany during the short Austrian's reign.

You DON'T reward violent racist regimes, they only see that as permission to up the violence and intensify their racism.

Just announce Jerusalem as both their capitals, and let them sort it out

Just announce Jerusalem as both their capitals, and let them sort it out

That already happened. Palestine claims Jerusalem as their capitol and there is a section for Muslims/Palestinians, another section for Christians, Armenians and one for Jews.

The Jews aren't going anywhere and they won't be lenient towards any adversaries using violence towards them. Have 6-12M of your people treated like trash and killed, then see how your culture changes and won't let that happen again. Violence will never succeed it will always be met with violence. Any organization producing weapons to be used against Israel will be opposed too.

The solution for peace seems obvious to me. Disarm. Show peaceful demonstrations without any hint of violence. Take the higher ground than the opponent, Israel. Don't throw rocks. Don't fire rockets. Don't throw fire bombs, and don't send your people into Israel with bombs strapped to their bodies.

Show peace and show Islam as a peaceful religion. 100% non-violence for a few years, without Iran, Hamas, or other outside violence and Palestine will have the high moral ground.

And don't take your kids to places likely to have violence, like protests sponsored by terrorists on the Israeli-controlled border.

You say that as if Christianity and Judaism is a non-combatant in this. Remember why George Dubbya went into the MIddle East? "God's War", "You're either with us, or against us." Just one of their many illegal wars. If we held American presidents to the same international law as we did to the Nazis at Nuremberg - all American presidents since Clinton would be hanged.

The Jews are forcibly taking land from Palestinians, more and more each day - bullying and murdering as they do it. It's a human rights atrocity! War crimes. There is no argument that can be made for the current-day Israelis. And because they are educated people that are so unified in their disgusting attitudes toward the Palestinians - I now have a very low opinion of them. They are no friend of mine.

The solution for peace is to withdraw from the occupied territories and give back the lands that you stole. Don't bulldoze homes, don't use chemical weapons and brute force on people and don't keep reneging on promises, don't eradicate their culture, don't downgrade their language and don't practice apartheid.

Don't assassinate their leaders, don't break up meetings, don't fire rubber bullets in the eyes of children and old men. Don't ignore international law and don't expect a people brutalised for 70 years to take it on the chin.

Indeed. Not to mention shocking terrorism from the UDA, UVF, UFF and many other loyalist groups. Who practiced their sectarian violence (often in collusion with British crown forces) on Catholics.

Conflict is always going to be "barbaric". And if you don't have access to weapons to defend yourself, you're going to use whatever is at hand.

This is why Sinn Fein and others are in solidarity with the Palestinian people. There are many, many parallels between the people of the occupied 6 counties and the occupied territories.

Back on topic please.

While I did earlier suggest that Australia should pressure Israel into compromising in order to make a lasting and reasonable two state peace deal possible, I should clarify that that is my reccomended most correct stance on the issue for Australia.

It must be said though, that no matter what pressure the world puts on Israel they will resist 'til the death because due to misunderstanding of Biblical texts they erroneously think they have a divine right to the land.

They aim to force out as many Palestinians as possible and subjugate the remaining ones under the flag of 'Eretz' Israel', a nation whose borders stretch throughout the same geographical region of the ancient Promised Land of Biblical days. They will never voluntarily give up this pursuit, ever.

Only by forceful removal from the occupied territories will anyone get Israel to cede land to the Palestinians. But unfortunately the U.S., egged on by its powerful Jewish lobby and Biblicaly ignorant Christians, will also fight to the death to protect Israel. The U.N. will never risk it.

So it's a no win situation for the poor Palestinians. So sad.

Australia is doing the right thing to apply pressure on Palestinians.

2 more rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel today. More Israelis dead.

Nope, most countries actually haven't, including Australia.
