When disasters occur governments are at a loss....

Quite a good explanation for what’s happening in Australia here.

Well, this is terrible but not unexpected if you follow science. Of course if you follow the bible to the exclusion of science you get prayers for rain while mass destruction occurs in the country. Nothing will change as the PM is in the pocket of the coal industry and believes the world will end anyway so why bother. Only way for Australia to change is to flush the climate science deniers down the toilet and elect people who live in reality, not a Bronze Age fantasy world with talking snakes and mass floods survived by one boat. This is tragic and shows how religion plus the PR from the coal industry is ruining the world.

There is a saying that God helps those who help themselves.

I think we need sometime a bit more practical.

One of my friends lost his house on New Years Eve in Batemens Bay. He, his wife and three kids escaped although, they have lost everything. The real tragedy is the 400+ homes that have been destroyed. Many could not get fire insurance due to living in bushfire danger zones. Others have lost millions of dollars worth of farm machinery, livestock and other assets. It is both a human and environmental disaster.

Before anybody jumps on the climate change bandwagon. The severity of the recent fires are due to a combination of factors and coincidences. Australia experienced an extremely dry winter, which is not unusual. There has also been an unseasonal bout of extremely hot weather, which is not unusual either. The main contributing factor is the idealisms of the Greens who banned controlled burns and cutting fire breaks through the forests a little over ten years ago. This has meant there is no access to the fires for the fighters and there is an extensive build up of fuel on the forest floors. This combined with a dry winter, hot temps and strong winds have created this hell on earth. The hot weather and dry winters are not unusual, but the manmade factors are what has directly caused this disaster.

So the solution to a local fire problem is.... trying to change the climate of the friggin PLANET. If one looks for a definition of insanity, one does not have to search much further.

People building homes in bushfire danger zones.... wow

WillB - People building homes in bushfire danger zones.... wow

Yeah, it’s called a forest.

The main contributing factor is the idealisms of the Greens who banned controlled burns and cutting fire breaks through the forests a little over ten years ago.

This has been described as a conspiracy theory by some, at least that's how the Guardian in the UK has reported it. I do wonder how the Greens could "ban" controlled burns when they don't hold power. I also read that more hazard reduction activities have been carried out in recent years than in previous decades.

On the other hand, I get WilliB's point that blaming the problem on Australia's CO2 emissions seems strange. While global warming may increase the chances of such fires, it's a global problem, and not caused just by Australia.

Many could not get fire insurance due to living in bushfire danger zones.

That was their choice. I hope the taxpayers do not get hit for the bill to rebuild uninsured homes.

The bushfire in here is out of controlled and really bad. The Police cannot catch all the global warming and mass extinction fanatics who are responsible for fire will be guilty all of their life. Only a few of bushfires started by lightening and the rest are deliberately started by humans.

Once more with feeling !

1/The Greens do not have any control over hazard reduction burning

2/Hazard reduction burning in NSW is determined by a Statutory Authority, the Rural Fire and Emergency Service.

3/Heads of this service ARE looking at climate change saying the extended drought {possibly among worse since white settlement }, lack of rain, EXTREME temperatures ,a shortened period when hazard reductions burns {cool burns } can be carried out etc are all climate change factors and all impacting on the fires and length of "fire season "

4/ The "blame the greenies " b.s has been described as a "tired conspiracy theory that gets run out after every major bush fire ".{Professor in Bushfire Management/Emergency.40 years experience }

5/ Climate change is the science "that dare not utter its name " for right wing voters and their party ,the LNP, .

6/ Jeez...can people just get their info from experts and ignore the inbox drops on Face Book and the like .

7/ It's not "situation normal " when we need the Navy to rescue people from beaches who are trapped by fire.

8/Thanks again to US and Canada volunteer fire fighters for coming over to help.

9/Saturday {tomorrow } could be very bad .
