@SushiSake

SAY HELLO TO MORE DROUGHTS, FLOODS AND WATER AND FOOD SHORTGAGES!!!

What makes you think there are necessarily more droughts, floods, water and food shortages around the world compared to previous years? And even if it's true that these events are increasing why do you blame humans, which I presume you are doing since you say, "it's best we realize this and work to mitigate the already-occuring climatic events"?

Using this carbon tax how do you suggest "we" mitigate these "already-occurring climatic events"?

The world is getting warmer, this is a proven fact

You sure about that? From the information I've seen the global mean temperature has levelled off and has even decreased slightly in the past decade despite increasing CO2 emissions from human activity.

Amazing to see the climate change deniers still spouting Stone Age ideas.

Can you prove that the "deniers" are wrong. Here's a couple of questions for you which can easily be found on the net.

1) What's the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere compared to other gases? And of that percentage how much CO2 is produced by man and how much is naturally occurring (from volcanoes, rotting vegetation etc)? On average how long does CO2 stay in the atmosphere? (CO2 is denser than air)

2) Even deniers agree there is a greenhouse gas effect (we wouldn't be here otherwise). But does CO2 cause the biggest fluctuations in this greenhouse effect? If not what gas does and what's the percentage?

I ask these questions not to be a smartass but to suggest that you look at both sides of the argument first without passing judgement.

US NAVY ??... having been in the military, i can assure you that your statement means nothing.... Do you know who the Commander in Chief of the US Armed forces is??.... thats right. a liberal global warming backer... Pres. Obama.. so please dont give me the Navy would never lie and only stick to the facts.. please!

Global warming is coming from live stock flatulence and burping.

Stop the herds. Eat Tofu and Fish.

@SushiSake3...Oh really?... the world is getting warmer?.. is that a fact?.. for every report that says the earth is getting warmer. i can show you a report the earth is getting colder... We had the coldest winters and the most snow in the last 3 years here in America!!.. Al Gore was planning on a Global Warming meeting in the eastern US and his meeting got cancelled due to a SNOW STORM AND BLIZZARD!.... No freakin' way i am going to get taxed for phoney baloney science!

"The U.S. Navy teaches that global warming is occurring to its weather forecasters. Why? Because the U.S. Navy has a vested interest in having good weathermen to keep their ships out of hazardous weather, so they tend to stick to the facts."

I think you meant to say the US Navy teaches its forecasters that some degree of global warming is detectable.

But very, very few people dispute that the weather changes. That's not the argument here.

She promised not to institute a carbon tax... then she did.

She's a liar. Plain and simple

No, you've got things completely backwards. It's largely carbon usage that is causing these events.

Ah l see so if you create a tax that stops people using cars, eating etc because it forces high prices so much higher then it will reduce carbon usage. Great think that, l already have my cave and stick picked out for when your way of life comes about.

Again, you've got things completely backwards. Most environmentalists/greenies/tree-huggers want to harness 21st century energy technology - wind, solar, wave, ocean current tech. It's the consevatives like yourself who want to maintain a deathgrip on oil based on blinded attitudes and shonky science.

Oh l see, well in that case then why is NON of the tax going to be spent on renewable energy, why then is solar installations on houses being banned in some areas of Australia, why then is it made difficult to make your house self sufficient. If this is truly the end goal then why not use this tax to support these schemes, because its nothing more than another money grab that is sponsored by the greenies and tree huggers of the world.

Again, flat out wrong. The "people who support this idea" want a sustainable future.

We shall see at the next election how the people feel about this idea. As l said bye bye Labor and bye bye Greens. That is how it looks. Dont you sit there and sprout sustainable future because there are no plans for that there are plans to tax the people, tax the businesses but not one word on how it will be spent. And as l said if the government is so keen on renewable energy why do they make it so difficult (and ban it in some areas) to instal and use.

Continue with the status quo and we'll have more pollution and no viable solutions. And a key point that people like yourselves often miss is that business depends on a continued supply of resources. Just look at how the floods in Thailand have tripled prices for many computer parts here in Japan, and stymied production at many (submerged) manufacturing plants.

Just for the record at no point did l say continue with the status quo, my argument if you read my posts is with an ill concieved tax that has no targets, no goals, no information on what schemes the money will be spent on. If the government came out and said we will introduce this tax and the money will be used for this, this and this. These are the benefits then that would be different. The government actually said "THERE WILL BE NO CARBON TAX" they then changed their mind after being elected and said oh here is the tax but we dont have a plan yet for what to spend the money one. See my point!

You just want to make a quick buck and protect your pocketbook now. Stuff the future!

Funny that sums up this tax to a tee.

Have you seen a chart of global carbon emmissions? There's NOTHING cyclical about the exponential rise we are seeing.

Oh so true, but just out of curiousity what caused the last heating of the earth? Because when that occured there was no industry to blame like today?

Im so glad Im in Japan now, I would really hate to be a part of this history-I just feel for those in Australia who have been blinded.

Congrats are in order here. Like the hair-shirted doomsday 'warming' cultists of the left who prevailed over in Nuh Zillun' , the left in Australia have also decided imbecility is in fact noble, worthy of being made national policy even.

"The federal government is sticking to its $23 a tonne carbon price despite it being almost double the European cost.

"Carbon prices in Europe have crashed to four-year-lows on the back of economic uncertainty, ranging between $8.70 and $12.60 a tonne."

The biggest tax rip off this century.

Who is the revenue intended for, "God"?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

australians love gold medals and this takes the gold medal for stupidity....

Oh brother. Here we go. I wonder how many countries will follow suit.

Sure glad I don't live in Australia!

Considering one of us has graduated through the course with honors and the other of us is not smart enough to get into the program, I think I meant to say what I meant to say, thank you.

Only one of us applied. Happy with the choices you made?

Your original post still reads kinda funny:"The U.S. Navy teaches that global warming is occurring to its weather forecasters."

Darrin - "SAY NO TO CARBON FOOTPRINT TAX!!!"

SAY HELLO TO MORE DROUGHTS, FLOODS AND WATER AND FOOD SHORTGAGES!!!

Australia reducing its carbon emissions won't make an iota of difference.

It's completely unfair to grab some natural disasters from the headlines and blame them all on global warming. Last time I checked, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere isn't the only thing that has been changing over the last century.

Good on Ya Mate!!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Taka313,

Well seeings how the mighty US navy believes so firmly in global warming then maybe they should do their part to fix it. Maybe the US too can introduce a carbon tax on everything from fuel to electricity to food. Afterall the carrot top believes this is what will save the world thats why she went back on her election promise not to introduce it.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Getting taxed for unproven science?... NO WAY!!.... this whole global warming lie is just another way for the governments to increase taxes on the working man while the fat-cat politicians get richer and richer!... SAY NO TO CARBON FOOTPRINT TAX!!!

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

The whole of Australia's power needs could come from solar-this is reality that is not acknowledged!

Spidapig24,

SushiSake4 - "SAY HELLO TO MORE DROUGHTS, FLOODS AND WATER AND FOOD SHORTGAGES!!!"

Spidapig24 - "Yeah sure can you please explain how introducing ANOTHER tax is going to stop any of that."

No, you've got things completely backwards. It's largely carbon usage that is causing these events.

Spidapig24 - "And its equally amazing to see those tree huggers are still clinging to their "take us back to the stone age all was so much better then" ideals."

Spidapig24 - "The fact is people who support this idea want nothing more than an end to business, and life as we know it otherwise why else would they support a tax that is going to make everyday essentials so expensive and out of some peoples reach."

Again, flat out wrong. The "people who support this idea" want a sustainable future.

Period.

Ignoring future sustainability of resources (as most climate change deniers readily do) will have major negative ramifications on business.

The "end to business, and life as we know it " will be far more likely to come due to the attitudes of people like yourself who appear to have no serious interest in the future sustainability of critical resources.

You just want to make a quick buck and protect your pocketbook now. Stuff the future!

Spidapig24 - "Could it be that climate change is like the seasons it comes and goes"

Arhgh..the "it's all cyclical" argument. Lovin' it. :-) It often comes up.

Have you seen a chart of global carbon emmissions? There's NOTHING cyclical about the exponential rise we are seeing.

Spidapig24 - "Oh and one more question SushiSake3 all these billions of dollars collected how exactly are they going to stop your dreaded climate change?"

They probably won't. What they will and can do is help mitigate the effects.

But you seem to have way more interest in denial than you do in your future, it seems.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Good luck.

Saps.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The world may very well be getting warmer but having people pay more for everything in taxes isnt going to do a damn thing but slow economies and hurt pople financially.

This whole global warming save the planet B.S. is just an excuse to grab more money, it is so transparent even a blind man could see through it and yet some people still want to claim otherwise.

Julia Gillard will be going the same way as helen clark, and her cronies.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

I think you meant to say the US Navy teaches its forecasters that some degree of global warming is detectable.

Considering one of us has graduated through the course with honors and the other of us is not smart enough to get into the program, I think I meant to say what I meant to say, thank you.

Weather forecasters are taught that the climate is changing and that we can expect more convective severe weather and more mesoscale weather events due to global warming.

@Darrin, It should mean something to you. The U.S. Navy/Air Force/Marine Weather Forecasting school is considered one of the best places in the world to be educated to be a weather forecaster. It's up there with the University of Wisconsin and Texas A&M.

@Spidapig, The US Navy has gone a long ways to become a lot more green. I'm ashamed to admit it, but in the old days, we used to simply dump all our trash overboard. We no longer do that. To cut down on fuel costs, the US Navy utilizes OTSR, Optimum Track Ship Routing (my old job) to route ships around areas of high seas and high winds that could damage the ship or delay them (causing them to burn more fuel). Those are just a couple. Actually, sailwind would be a better person here at JT to talk to about this. He works in the environmental field.

The one really good piece of news out of this disgrace of a money grab is that the PM no-one elected and her union crony buddies will be tossed out at the next election.

This ridiculous tax is nothing short of a cheap money grabbing scheme to hit the public up for more money and to think they havent even declared where the money will be spent. Will it be spent to replace the polluting coal fired power generators. Oh no not one cent, will it be spent on infrastructure? Nope. So where exactly is the carrot top gonna spend the money.

BYE BYE Gillard, worst PM Australia never voted for

Well DAH yeah the world is getting warmer, as it has in the past before all these big nasty polluters came along and what caused that. Could it be that climate change is like the seasons it comes and goes. Its funny how many scientists actually agree that climate change isnt man made but is cyclical as are ice ages. But l guess there is no money grabbing schemes to be had there now is there?

Oh and one more question SushiSake3 all these billions of dollars collected how exactly are they going to stop your dreaded climate change?

The U.S. Navy teaches that global warming is occurring to its weather forecasters. Why? Because the U.S. Navy has a vested interest in having good weathermen to keep their ships out of hazardous weather, so they tend to stick to the facts.

You know, that uber-leftie environmental organization. The U.S. Navy.

Gillard lives in lollipop dream land. Short term gains for long term pain, they should have introduced this slowly, now all the extra costs are going to be passed onto the consumers.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

This is a bold move from a sensible group of politicians who are putting people before profits.

Not just people, but the health and wellbeing of future generations.
