First Cuba, now China.

Well, I guess it is time to reveal to the world what a real laser is and evaporate those little man made islands in the south China sea. Those are in fact international waters.

Lasers from sharks? I saw it in a movie once.

Wouldnt that be an act of war? provoking a military response from Asia and the US, as it targeted our allies.

Lasers can be very powerful in the military, if you are unaware of Femto chemistry (the evolution of laser technologies, you should watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOcMGNTClVY

While continuing to maintain that they are friendly and that there is nothing to worry about. They continue to act in an aggressive unfriendly manner. Actions speak louder than words. China can not be trusted.

Don't worry, it's just China promoting "peaceful joint development", "win-win cooperation", and the "correct concept of righteousness and interests". China has absolutely no desire for hegemony. Xi said so, so it must be true.

@Kenji, yes this is an act of war. But some times invading another country is declared to be an act of peace. What a hypocrite world we live in.

@ chugmagaga, and sometimes invading a peaceful Buddhist nation like Tibet is called "liberation".

Indeed, we live in a hypocritical world.

Russia's annexing territory in Ukraine, China's annexing territories in the South China Sea.

They're both pushing the envelope just short of starting major wars and they're annexing lands that don't belong to them successfully.

Some things never change.

Australia doesn’t kowtow, now China shows what’s behind all those big smiles and promises of being an agent of peace were really all about. Lies basically. The games up and they are going into the next phase. This really didn’t need to happen, but well, communism....

What does an economic model have to do with aggressive behavior?

isn't that the guy from Tokyo few days ago ? LUL

@Kenji Fujimori

I hope it is not an act of war as there was a Japanese guy pointing lasers at American air force planes recently near Yokota.

Bring large mirrors

Lasers are light - it can be reflected back

"An act of war"? Perhaps just as well for world peace then that the Aust Government isn't taking this incident quite as seriously as some readers here are.

Close your eyes while you're driving your car on the highway and see how long you can go before you crash. Now imagine doing that in a helicopter. This 'incident' could quickly escalate and needs to be take seriously. Next time who's to say that helicopter doesn't end up in the ocean with a dozen people on board.

A few Air-to-surface laser following bombs/missiles will solve the issue. Just need to get them working opposite from normal.

So you don't think a foreign country attempting to sabotage military operations is an act of war? If that guy pointing lasers at US aircraft was a Chinese agent instead of a disgruntled old man, things would have been very different.

Hello Kitty 321

That's a pen laser.. Not the Industrial/Military grade lasers that can cut through anything. As mentioned if you are unsure of Femtochemistry you really should watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOcMGNTClVY
