Typical response from China supporter.

Australia bad when it patrols waters off its coast and bad when it sails in international waters in the South China sea.

China good when it causes trouble in international waters and good when it attacks a patrol plane flying over its own coastal waters, with its military grade lasers.

Chinese hypocracy is legendary. Why even bother posting?

Australia is very nasty, see their war conducts in Afghanistan and you will get a clue of what they done usually!

Very nasty to the Taliban, yes. Usually they defeated all Taliban contacts that occurred.

Instances against civilians were investigated and reported by Australian authorities themselves.

Such actions were isolated.

Those responsible are being charged and face life behind bars. Australia has no death penalty.

Let Russia or China do the same with its people that commit atrocities. They dont have the honesty or the stones.

Wrong!

Name one country China had attacked during the last 40 years. Then I will ask you to pinpoint the bully.

Hong Kong. Taiwan. Vietnam. South China Sea. Uighurs. Dali Lama.

Oh sorry, did you want me to not pretend that China are aggressors who are the most dangerous threat to humanity on the planet. My bad, I'm always ruining people's narratives with my truth bombs.

1- No nation in the world criticizes an ally.

Belarus criticized Russia for conducting a referendum in Crimea & until today it refuses to officially recognize Crimea as a part of Russia. The relations between Russia & Belarus & far more than just allies.

Jamil, careful, you might suffocate under all those chips!

Suffocating under chips is far better than what you are suffocating under!

The only one bullying the neighbourhood sadly is China.

If Aus wants war, they will get war. Be careful what you wish for!

If Australia did want a war, nobody would be left wondering, as they have more than enough firepower to start a conflict should they choose to do so.

Australia is inherently a peaceful nation and only fights wars when our allies ask for our assistance.

Australia has no desire to start a war with anyone and with its current military at small levels compared to a great many countries, it would not win alone against many nations anyway.

If Australia was preparing to start a war it would be conscripting hundreds of thousands of troops, building masses of equipment and munitions and buying everything it could get it's hands on.

There are enough warmongering nations already and the world does not need any more.

Anyone eluding to Australia wanting war needs immediate mental medical assistance and a reality check.

Um...what actual 'damage' did the 'laser' do? Aussies sound like tots complaining and whining "AW MOM!

The Soviets played that game with us back in the 1980s until one of our pilots suffered permanent disabling eye damage. After that the Soviets were told if they did it again we'd destroy the aircraft or ship the laser came from. They stopped after that.

Dude, the Chinese ships were operating in the Torres Strait. Please look at a map and see where that is. Kind of bad manners to sail right off the coast of Australia then lase one of their patrol planes. The Aussies weren't trying to stop the Chinese from sailing through what are international waters. They didn't even complain about it. International water are just that. but they certainly had every right to fly around above and keep an eye on the situation and nobody has any right to lase another nation's airplane flying in international airspace.

Chinese warship ‘fired laser’ at Australian spy plane :

Did that actually happen?

A rather evasive accusation without details or substantiation.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

I'm somehow both, excited and sad about the fact that the military now, has laser weapons.

The Royal Navy had a laser weapon in service during the Operation Corporate, the campaign recapture of the Falklands in 1982. They used it to good effect too, downing several Argentine Neshers. I have seen the actual weapon on a Type 42 destroyer. The Soviet Navy had a laser weapon we called Squeezebox on their Sovremenny class destroyers. Our pilots operating in the Persian Gulf back during the Tanker War of the 1980s had to wear these super expensive laser filtering goggles to avoid eye damage because laser dazzlers were so prevalent in the region. It is really not new.

Aussies sound like tots compaining and whining, aw mom.

Firstly an Aussie would say, aw mum.

Secondly, if a report on an incident makes Aussies look like tots, what does the constant, never ending complaints from China about nations sailing around and through the South China sea make it look like? A group of babies with badly soiled nappies crying like they dropped their dummy?

Nice to see you will happily critisize any future Chinese complaints if they report any nation shining lasers at any of their planes.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

If Aus wants war, they will get war. Be careful what you wish for!

Australia doesn't want war, but they have a history of fighting it, and will do so if attacked. China needs to watch it's rhetoric. The world doesn't like the CCP. The world supports Australia. The world supports the free and independent nation of Taiwan.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Canada & Australia sent troops wherever the US went.

Canada did not send troops to Iraq mate. Fact-check yourself.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Um...what actual 'damage' did the 'laser' do?

If your logic is no harm no foul, you must be a supporter of removing attempted murder from a list of crimes. Right?

...right?

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Um...what actual 'damage' did the 'laser' do? Aussies sound like tots complaining and whining "AW MOM! She's teasing me again! Make her stop..." Perhaps spending a little money on auto-activated filters would help these poorly equipped MILITARY pilots so easily discouraged, and one can only guess how vulnerable they would be in a 'combat' situation. What better 'real world' test of their survivability, and the neglect of their commanders in providing adequately for their defense? But good job pointing out to the Chinese how vulnerable your pilots are to nothing but a bright light...

Australia needs to quit sending minerals to China

No surprise there...they're chinese.

1 No nation in the world critisises an ally. Ask China for a condemnation of Russia, get silence.

2 So Canada and Australia are dependable allies to have. Good.

Yes, unlike Russia or China, Australia will not hide from truth or punishing those guilty of crimes. A much more open, honest and civilized nation.

Be not China.

An air-to-surface missile will take care of that china pest.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

These are not laser weapons as per 'Star Wars'. Just wear laser safety goggles when piloting a plane near Chinese military vessels. Fixed.

The biggest risk is when landing and taking off, which Western military planes will not be doing near Chinese warships.

Using a number of drones to capture footage would reduce the ability for spy cameras to be blinded by lasers - the main reason the Chinese have for using them. And no pilots affected either.

This sort of cold war shenanighans (Ukraine etc) is typically used to distract citizens from their government's failure to deal with issues at home, particularly the ones they promised to fix in campaign speeches. Maybe time to audit your government against the promises they made.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Australia is totally powerless against China, but luckily for Australia the alliance with the US stops China from overtly taking over the country. Instead China has to work covertly to take over Australia from within - just look at the fine work being carried out by "Australian citizen" Chau Chak Wing.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

China firing off lasers to blind pilots is a despicable cowardly act by thugs and nothing more. Anyone attempting to justify such actions may as well be calling for an act of war. The Chinese need to be sanctioned for such hostile behavior. Increase the cost of their Iron ore imports by $100 a tonne for six month every time they do it.

i can already picture zhao lijian ranting something rotten there on his podium if any foreign vessel did the same to a chinese aircraft - it'd be 'cold war mentality' this, 'upsetting the status quo' that....what a disgusting, hypocritical 'people's republic' of a government.

I bet certain pro-commies here are enjoying their freedom in one of the democratic countries that he’s bagging

then they wail when their 'freedoms' and 'liberty' are taken away when they hear what they dont like.

Partially agree, because you know very well it hardly ever tells the truth.

im amazed that your reference to 'lying' western media implies you believe in full the media that whatever authoritarian governemnt is feeding you.

sure western media has a bias depending on which channel you watch, but viewpoints can be countered and viewers are free to demand evidence or criticize the 'facts' being conveyed. do that in your tankie country and no one sees you again. which beggars the question, why dont you get out of your western comfort zone that affords you such freedoms of expression, and move to an orwellian surveillance state that you seem to be pandering to.

What did Australia do???

taking photos of the Chinese near their waters,  Torres Strait , Coral Sea,

chinese didnt like it so fired a laser at them.

time to start building those nuke subs, Australia then can start touring international waters of the sth China sea

What did Australia do???

Australia flew a patrol plane over it's coastal waters and monitored two Chinese navy ships transiting between Australia and New Guinea. Thats all. Something all nations do when foreign navy ships sail close by. Something Australia was well within it's rights to do. China had no right to try to blind the pilots with a laser beam.

Let us be fair and show another list proving Russian bullying.

Finland, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Afghanistan, Georgia, Ukraine, Japans Northern Territories.

And lets do one for China.

Tibet, Vietnam, India, Taiwan, South China seas, Senkaku islands.

The big three all have agendas and sometimes that includes wars and skirmishes to gain advantages.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.

Although this is about a laser shining incident, some posts must be rebutted and their contents balanced by reply.

Australia says Chinese warship fired a laser at its spy plane

You must think Australia has no right to keep watch on foreign navy ships off Australia's coastline.

That being said you must also be against China spying on military vessels in the South China sea and transiting through the Taiwan straights.

The Anglo-Saxons, US, UK, Canada, Australia & Partially New Zealand are organizing what's like a street gang, by which they are bulling the neighborhood.

Racist comment much? Since when is securing the neighborhood with rules based order like a street gang? The only nations that act like street gangs in my observance are Russia and China who love to bully smaller nations for a pastime.

China firing off lasers to blind pilots is a despicable cowardly act by thugs and nothing more. Anyone attempting to justify such actions may as well be calling for an act of war. Jamil, careful, you might suffocate under all those chips! Self defence against an aggressive bully like China has become is not forming a “gang” and the only one bullying the neighbourhood sadly is China. You need a decent optician as what ever specs you are wearing are seriously distorting your view.

Unfortunately this sort of reckless, aggressive and bullying behaviour in international waters has become the norm for China.

If memory serves me correctly it was the Australians who alerted the US of a large fleet traveling towards Hawaii. All part of the same game, problem, reaction, solution. Don’t think of countries, think of the banks that run them and have joint interests.

A worrying arrival indeed!

Australia says Chinese warship fired a laser at its spy plane, in international waters/skies

there fixed that for you, spy planes have no weapons they had every right to be there under international law and yet China used a high energy weapon against them. didnt know taking photos could take out a ship.
