China don’t care it’s not their fight. It’s just an easy hands off., but support without sending 100,000 volunteers.

Putin would/will reciprocate after claiming victory while having troops blown up by ieds and ambushed.

where are the Russian volunteers by the way?

disgusting move by China, but it is to be expected. XI and Putin are 2 cheeks of the same backside.

Scotty from marketing playing politics with every opportunity

Pretty much what politicians do, even Leader until 2036 or whenever Putin is leader, is 'playing politics', trying to convince his fellow followers in the Russian "race' as he says that he's just protecting them, Putin's playing politics to get those in his 'race' to believe he's not just protecting his and his oligarch's wealth.

I will take an Australian-type system where citizens can vote leaders in or out, any day to Putin's brand of fascism, until 2036 at least.

Australians can choose alternatives to Morrison, unlike Russians or their partners the CCP Chinese.

Totally not surprising as these two have basically been in the same bed since Mao took over China and Xi is trying to flex his country's muscles for a good while now. They are both asking for it and the world needs to give it to them. I for one, promise not to buy any more Chinese-made goods. Good on Australia for taking this stand.

Well done by our strong Aussie allies...

Both Putin and Xi think they can put on the pressure in hopes of re-electing Trump or a similar dictator-friendly Republican in 2024...

But the American people see through their trickery and deception - those not already blinded by their propaganda spread by the US far-right media hate machine...

I love the fact Australia don’t accept china’s behaviour, the world would benefit by following suit, rather than bending over to appease china at every opportunity..

Oh be quiet Australia, you've nothing to offer

The above a typical pro-authority/anti-democracy comment, to them only the wealthiest and most powerful should have a voice.

I don't really think much of Morrison, but the criticisms he is raising in the article against China seem totally legitimate to me.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

Scotty from Marketing is talking tough, I'm sure the Chinese are terrified.

'm sure the Chinese are terrified.

Curious how you could be 'sure", deep inside knowledge perhaps?

You will now see china move against the West…or whoever Xi cares to

3 ( +7 / -4 )

China and Russia are same!

They are lying and do not hesitate to kill innocent people, just to implement their interests.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Australia has “nothing to offer”? Sure, except for iron ore and coking coal and other things that China needs.

I agree with posters who have no time for Morrison but see nothing out of order with what he’s saying here. It’s not like Australia-China relations have exactly been hunky-dory lately.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Xi will be buoyed by the limp weak-kneed response by the west towards Russia.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

India -- a major purchaser of Russian weapons -- has also so far refrained from condemning Moscow's actions, but Morrison did not mention New Delhi.

Scotty with his forked tongue

Is he so urgently in need of a second frontline through Asia / Indo / Pacific? It’s not such a good idea at the moment to pile up the next wars onto the big one that’s already going on.

Australia on Friday pilloried China's failure to denounce the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as Beijing's "unacceptable" decision to ease restrictions on a key Russian export in the face of Western sanctions.

Given Scomo,s less than cordial relations with China its a safe bet China doesnt give a hoot about what he says. But it will give him little boost before election.

Xi come on ry it , Australia is a huge land with actual combat experience troops. Not mummy boys in matching uniforms. Come on try it? Let’s see your best punch?

@cricky

stop playing Call of Duty so much. China has no interest in invading a massive large rock with severe floods and wildfires, hose pipe bans and obesity.

Russia would probably like Hokkaido though.

A massive large rock, eh?

Sounds big.

Can’t see the walls closing in on something that size.

Why would China be interested in invading Australia when they already control or own large swags of it from the port of Darwin, farms and associated manufacturing, down to Melbourne where chairman Andrews their surrogate has signed up Victoria to the belt and road indicative (or did the Federal government cancel his move on that)

China is not an ally of US,Australia and NATO! Russia is an ally of China, the AUKUS is a hostile element, is that simple!

For the past several years I've been corresponding with people living in all areas of Russia. Whenever the conversations turned to food, they became depressing. If China takes Russian wheat, a lot of which is contaminated with a fungus, so be it. They'll buy it and throw it out, or feed it to animals and ruin that other food chain. And ordinary Russians will get hungrier and hungrier.

I'm glad I live in Canada, where the wheat is the best. And where the world's largest diaspora of Ukrainians live, at least those lucky enough to not be in their homeland. I can only imagine what's going through their minds when they think about family and friends in what Putin has turned into a war zone.
