@Eastman

Australia used to be a nice country to travel but with these "tourist selections" I will prefer to spend my money somewhere else where they dont do these "selections" and treat all tourists equally.

I'm assuming you're not vaccinated?

as already stated, it makes sense as omicron already peaked and they are highly vaccinated.

Australia will reopen its borders to tourists from Feb 21, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Monday, ending some of the world's strictest and longest-running pandemic travel restrictions.

Wonderful, looking forward to visiting Australia this year!!!

I can’t wait to visit there with my partner and spend so much money. That’s how it goes right?

Make sure any plane tickets and hotels etc are fully refundable, right up to the day your due to travel to Aus. That would be my advice.

People who don’t have much clue about travel dispensing advice is hilarious.

A country that still has states blocked off to its own citizens wouldnt exactly be my first pick for a holiday.

A country which puts common sense over pandering to idiots is the kind of country which will open up safely.

And a few ignorant people not visiting Australia wouldn’t worry them too much!!!

Sensible move from the Australians. Get on with things, and get on with living life normally.

Wouldn't rush into making firm plans to visit Australia. Governments there could shift the goalposts at short notice if it suits their own expedient needs.

Scientists disagreeing with other scientists on the safety and efficacy of an experimental vaccine is not disinformation. It is, ironically, science.

I am not a scientist and never once have I claimed to be. However, when someone comes on here, claims that because a country has 70% full vaccination and 40% with booster shots, that 30% have refused the booster, then that is disinformation when it is clear that the vaccine program is still ongoing. The person in question uses these types of statements regularly. That is not science.

If I am not mistaken, just like anywhere else, most of the visitors to Australia are from China. And they are not coming back.

An equal number comes from New Zealand, a large number from the UK and US, so Australia will be fine.

And I am sure you are mistaken about this like everything else!!!

Can you make the same mature statement?

Absolutely. Your “unvaccinated (normal) humans” comment earlier is all the proof needed to contradict your statement regarding not disrespecting those who are vaccinated. That was not mature or respectful in any way whatsoever.

West aust has cut quarantine from 14 to 7 days and international arrivals cap doubled to 500 people a week, for now go through the east coast to get there. Best to hope for is omi rips into w/a that’ll speed things up maybe.

All i can say to those that want to come here is bring a great big fat bank balance because if there is another variant lurking, those borders will be shut within a week, in fact, 48 hours. And youll be stuck.

With the notable exception of Western Australia, which is led by a complete lunatic. it looks like Australia is finally making some progress towards common sense.

If you want to get infected with Corona then feel free to travel to Australia! The number of infected there are high and that isn’t the problem in itself but it’s the attitude and behavior of these infected people which will make you infected. In Japan the numbers are also high but the difference is that the people here ( not only the infected ) do behave appropriately to a certain extent and are considerate of others so the likelihood of getting infected here is rather low. Those who really really have an urge to travel for vacation might be wiser to chose other destinations.

I mean how can the authorities enforce a brutal lockdown if there aren't any coronavirus cases around? Need to get the infection rate up somehow.

so "tourist selection"?

what a "great" idea Mr.Morrison,we are all welcome to Australia but in real all are not welcome?
