Oh the horror! I'm sure the mods will delete the means words that make you unhappy.
Then everything will be alright.

Sorry peter14,
You are not a god and safety is NEVER guaranteed. If you are so scared, please stay locked in your home.

For all the lunatics out there:
...absence of critical thinking skills, inability to understand real risk, relinquishing liberties, and freedoms for presumed safety, and believing self-proclaimed medical “experts” has been a disgraceful exhibition of weakness, self-enslavement, and voluntary confinement at the behest of tyrannical politicians.
The media is the Virus.

With 30% of the population born overseas and 50% with relatives OS the country is starting to run out of patience with the Govt and the draconian secret kingdom policy. Vaccinate the most at risk let others choose!
Open the borders now! :)

Judiciary and executive are as one, like two happy turtle doves. The citizens of the Democratic People's Republic of Australia have no wish or need to leave and are all happy. Five year plan working. Glorious Leader Morrison 100% popular in official polls. Will ride to summit of sacred mountain on unicorn to celebrate beating of virus.

Let them go, but don't let them back.

Looks like it will be more than 30 years. Who needs freedom? Trust your government without question.

If sitting down in a park is an arrestable offense then God help the Victorians!
Peter14
Let me qualify that. People who were breaking the law in a park were arrested.
kurisupisu
Recently the Melbourne police were arresting people for .....being in a park!

Once a prison always a prison.

But this becomes total BS considering sports athletes, olympics and others, ARE allowed to leave and return.
What saintly powers to be sanctifies their travels for the purpose of playing games, but not that of others who wish to attend funerals, help family etc etc.
Stinks.

I am one of the "79% of respondents agree the international border should stay shut until the pandemic is under control globally".
Without purpose built quarantine facilities capable of handeling thousands of people at a time in every state, it is impossible to safely admit tens of thousands of people per day from nations that do not have covid under control. The smaller numbers already pose problems in containment at hotel quarantine facilities being used.
People complain they cant leave and would then complain when they cant return when they want to.
Sorry but your right to travel during a pandemic does not trump the right of people to remain safe.
The government is charged with the responsibility to keep the people safe and it is doing so. Those who put their rights above others should be free to renounce their citizenship and emigrate immediately to another nation, with no right of return.
Nations frequently "disrupt" the rights of the individual with military conscription, (not currently occurring in Australia) and especially during war which often ends in that persons death as a result.
Losing some personal rights during a pandemic that is a clear danger to the population should be understood better. Less complaining about the restrictions would make everyone's life a little easier.
I would not want to live anywhere else at this point in time. Australia truly is the lucky country.

That is indefensible. A country can lock its borders to prevent people from entereing it, but prohibiting people from leaving their country is something that we only know from Eastern Europe in during the cold war and places like North Korea. What is happening to Australia?
ian
What happened to the people always citing poll results?

@theResident
Don't like it don't read it!
No one is forcing you.

This is terrifying. These people, who are already taxpayers, not only lost their case but were forced to pay the government's legal costs that it incurred in defeating them because they challenged a law that no other democratic nation has.

The Australian newspaper published a survey last month that found 73% of respondents said the international border should remain closed until at least the middle of next year.
One of the problems with any public opinion poll is that the results depend entirely on how questions are asked. Did this poll ask respondents about "keeping the border closed" or "citizens personal travel restrictions"?
Gooch
Some do, but the media and government etc smear them as "conspiracy theorists."
kurisupisu
People are being placed in servitude for the off chance of being infected with a virus?
Don't Australians understand virology?
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
Two-tier travel rights. This is the future, now. Get used to it.

Except if you are a privileged elite athlete, then no problem.
The Australian government hypocrisy is unbelievable.

We wanted to buy an apartment in nsw, but the agent said they were so scared of covid that they didn’t want to sell it to an Aussie living in Japan. This disease has caused discrimination between people, states and countries.when will it stop? after most are vaccinated? Nope, new varaints will keep us divided.
Gooch
Helps if you're good at running fast or hitting a ball. Cricket players were allowed to go to India and come home again. But if you're an average person, you're outta luck. Wife's Japanese friend in Australia's father died recently, but he wasn't allowed to fly back to Japan for the funeral.
Some say that history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes. Australia was once a prison island, and the national and some state governments seem intent on making it one again. The PM even wants to introduce vaccine passports to travel from state to state.
starpunk
At least thry're handling it better than many other nations, although winter time is coming to the land Down Under. Better safe than sorry.

Softballers etc of course not affected. lol

Use the travel bubble to your advantage. Travel to New Zealand and then see if it is possible travel to your desired destination.
Although returning back to Aussieland could be a problem.
