Not sure why any parent would take their 14 month old baby to a remote part of a remote island inhabited by brown snakes, crocs (this time of year), great whites, and 200 dingoes.

He would have been facing charges because these dingos are protected. However, due to the extenuating circumstances, the charges would have been dropped, of course.

I used to camp on Frazer Island every year for nearly twenty years. The dingos are always around. However, they are very timid and easily shied away. It is the fault of all the idiots feeding them that they have come to associate humans with food or, in this case, as food. There are warning signs everywhere and a lot of information on how to deal with them. This baby was taken from an open camper van. Why the van was left open defies logic. The other cases mentioned in the article involved people feeding them. I sincerely hope it does not result in a call to cull these animals. It is their island. It is the humans who are the intruders.

Why would they install croc warning signs on Fraser Island if there were none?

Irukandji, goanas, blue bottle jellyfish, large pythons, and funnel web spiders, oh my.

This is the same Island where 2 Japanese boys drowned last month. This baby was lucky. It seems a dangerous Island for a tourist.

Under the circumstances, nothing. But I'm surprised that this was the first thing that occurred to you. Although if the father had tried to shoot a dingo while it was dragging a child, he would have put the child at risk.

Fraser Island is one of the wonders of Australia, millions of tourists visit every year.

It doesn't have crocs, brown snakes is not an endemic specie, great whites are in the sea (not on the island), but yes it has dingoes, some of the purest strand of dingoes live on the island.

The reason it is such a draw card is because of its natural wonders, like the fact it is entirely formed of sand, the forests are thousands of years old, pure clean fresh water streams and perched lakes, and of course the fishing is great.

It is also constantly changing because of the sand, and is why families will visit the island many times during their life time.

It is also close to Brisbane and therefore a good place for family to go camping. The 4wd beach driving is terrific, not to mention uncrowded surf and beach activities like swimming in champagne pools or digging for pippies etc. You could be on it for weeks and not be bored or feel the crowd. You should visit it, beats Totori sand dunes...

Yes that's at another major tourist attraction, Uluru, but used to be called Ayer's Rock.

The parents are now vindicated and free.

if he had shot the dingo he would have been arrested for having firearms on Fraser Island.

Oh, and the person with the croc fetish really needs to update his knowledge. There are no crocs on Fraser Island. They don’t come any further south than Gladstone.

So last month when the article came out about 2 Japanese boys drowning in a lake on Fraser Island, one commenter came on here saying they could have been running away from dingos. People on here were heavily criticizing that person as if dingos were cute little puppy dogs and hardly existed. What do you think now?

I'm surprised that you jumped to the conclusion that the father would "shoot a dingo". You can kill a dingo with a stout stick, or tire iron.
