Gambare (her real name?) needs to grow up.

I used to deal with Australians who did not know how to spell "hygene" in USA. This is nothing but a stereo type negative perception ( a silent discrimination) against immigrants who share different values and culture. She is not fit to be called as a policy maker of Australia and starts her career at deodorant industry.

Spelling is one thing doing is another.

Obviously never been in a taxi in Melbourne or Sydney if you believe that. Anyone who has will know exactly what l mean.

She is not fit to be called as a policy maker of Australia and starts her career at deodorant industry.

Actually you would be surprised she is actually being very accurate and honest, unfortunately she will have to apologise as we cannot offend our minority people in Australia and must continue to bow to their every wish.

Here in US, that's the expression we use when someone does not know what;s going on.

Several years ago, a supervisor requested that an certain national's travel documets be prepared. His main reason: the foreigner smells, even from the elevator hall, which has a sliding door and about 20 meters away from the foreigner's seat, the undeniable scent can be smelled.

Earlier that week, the supervisor politely asked the foreigner to go home and take a bath. The forgeiner obliged. But when he returned, he still smelled the same, and wearing the same clothes he wore earlier, but he said he took a bath.

@global

How can you expect foreigners to know the spelling of your local expressions?

She's more than qualified to teach 'awareness' to people heading into the nation, but not to push said values into law.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Hang on, I agree with her. Regardless of race or nationality, why should anyone have to endure the foul stench of stale and repulsive poor personal hygiene? I say well done for having the 'balls' to say something about it. I would too.

Gambaro - "Conservative" (MP) that says it all !

What's next? Need to pass an exam on B.B.Q , eating Vegemite and planking?

Lol this is funny, no offence though, I really love my Aussie mates down under.

I guess a law could be passed to be armed to spray people :P

Well if this is designed to drop the cost of water, and allow all people a free(tax covered) shower, one per day, I think it is a good idea. The carbon tax might as well go to reducing gases! I wonder which foreigners she was referring to?

If they had better jobs instead of the low paid, dirty, smelly and dangerous, they would smell better. Don't ask a man to shovel shit and then come up smelling like roses.

Ah so its too much to expect taxi drivers, service station attendants and convenience store people to use a bit of deodorant. I have worked with some very well paid people who because of their ethnic background have very bad B.O issues and there is no excuse for it other than poor hygiene pure and simple.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Again, tell them it's a cultural faux pas, but don't force them to do anything they don't want to.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Ah yes, she's a Conservative, that explains a lot. What a horrible old trout.

Let's not pretend this was about any issue grounded in reality. I've met plenty of white Aussies who stink to high heaven and never wear deodorant, but for some reason no one ever seems to say that it's an Australian trait.

Really, what she's saying is "I don't like foreigners. They're horrid, and they smell". Lovely how Australians are taking the time to be racist to people coming into the country now, as well as the people who were there when they arrived.

@Fugacis

Lovely how Australians are taking the time to be racist to people coming into the country now... What are you talking about ,'Australians'? It's one woman's opinion, did you read the parts about it sparking a'public backlash' and the minister calling the remarks 'bizarre and silly' ??

Either you are being ironic - or you have made a very embarrassing spelling error.

Migrants or anyone on a long term visa such as students and working holiday holders need the vital information about consumer rights, other general legal/administrative and normal practices in Australia but they get nothing not enough a link to the websites. My wife got ripped off because she paid a bond to a subletter (its not legal in Australia). I am sure its the same atrocious service that every government gives to long termers- there is that long plane trip and they can't be bothered providing information for airlines to distribute/provide access to.

"Gambaro" - she has an ethnic-sounding name herself. People in glass houses and all that...

Anyway - she is just an irrelevant conservative grub. Will never be a Minister or anyone important.

@ Fugacis - Dunno which nation you are from, but I'd bet my apartment on it that your mob are far from cleanskins when it comes to race relations past and present.

but for some reason no one ever seems to say that it's an Australian trait.

No one ever says it because stinking to high heaven isnt an Australian trait.

Yes, the comments sound ridiculous, unless you have lived through such an experiment. In my case, it was a graduate student from Turkey who lived in the dorm room next to mine. His roommate, a friend of mine, tried several subtle methods to get him to use deodorant and shower every day. It was very funny, but Jesus, did he stink. Somewhere along the line, he did learn Western hygiene, because about two years later I let him stay at my place when he was looking for new housing. He didn't smell anymore, but he had picked up snoring. Really loud.

I am MR. SMELLY as I accidentally misspelled a word of Hygiene. This is very funny. LOL At least my concience is clear that I respect everyone equally no matter where they come from. I am a poor "two finger" typist, but I am not a racist like Gambaro.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Gambaro isn't being racist, there is a high proportion of people from other countries who forgo deodorant and bathing as a cost saving measure.

But it is funny to see how white people have programmed themselves to beat each other up if they speak the truth.

Do they now, well that is interesting. And I'm guessing you have evidence for this rather tall claim? Failing even that basic test, can you even name which "other countries" you're referring to, you bigoted twit? Or is it just that undifferentiated mass you call "foreigners"?

But it is funny to see how white people have programmed themselves to beat each other up if they speak the truth.

I think you're mixing up "truth" with "unsubstantiated prejudice".

What next?,,who knows or cares! I think the lady has a point but what's next, Clean Police ?

Australia has been accused of racism in recent years following a string of violent attacks against Indian students and public unease about growing levels of Chinese investment in the nation’s resources sector.

Better mental hygiene is needed down there, and in New Zealand.
