"Obama actually asked to reduce his salary"
Clever Obama, professor of con law. The US Constitution forbids any reduction or increase in the president's salary while in office.

I sort of agree Honest, but let's be fair and say most politicians have already a fortune before they become head honcho. Surely the post would seem more honourable were these people to take a lesser salary and desire to peform the job out of pride for one's country?
But then again -, they used to pay French cops the minimum wage because they were supposed to do it for the love of the job. That just meant huge low level corruption so maybe you're right. The bigger the post, the bigger the corruption I guess.

I don't know how well the AU PM is doing her country but I think that most politicians especially the head leader should be making a decent amount of cash like that. They're responsible for a lot of things that lead a country(not a company) and they're "hired" by election (public opinion), not a human resources department and could either be forced out of office or resign if they can't finish their term limit.

"Obama actually asked to reduce his salary"
Heh, is that true?
To here JT's heavy-breathing,right-wing radicals take on the liberal-leaning (and terrorist-hugging) MSM, I'd have expected to at least have read that snippet.
I know nothing of Oz politics, but that salary is far to big for any politician.
calm down
classic k.. y....

You do realize that when she leaves office and retires she will have a package of $60-100K AU for the rest of her life doing nothing

A brand new tax is introduced... then straight after, all the politicians get a pay rise - what are the odds?

Well, from the article, it would appear the Remuneration Tribunal, an independent body, recommended pay hikes for most politicians and public servants and she would be one amongst them. That, simply, is why she got a pay rise; deserved or not.

Because she can and will, Australia will be in as much trouble as USA. Wait for the big crash......
