When the guy hitting on a woman is handsome/rich/famous, he's "got confidence"

When the guy hitting on a woman is ugly/poor/nobody, he's "a creep"

Will it include out of ten ratings?

Given the way "rape"'s definition is constantly being expanded to meet the yips of feminists, perhaps this kind of app is the only practical way out of a bad situation.

Will they need a witness ?

Lets face it, if a women is attracted to a guy (especially if he's an alpha or has money) they normally aren't concerned the least with consent. They'll let the guy do whatever he wants. Its when a guy they don't like does something that they find creepy or uncomfortable that they call inappropriate or an assault..

So in other words, welcome attention is welcome; unwelcome attention is unwelcome. Glad we cleared that one up.

Why not just set up an app like Uber where both parties can rate the sexual encounter after the fact.

Rape / Terrible / OK / Fun / Orgasmed

Responses to the consent app suggestion have been largely negative or skeptical.

That must be the understatement of the month.

I always wonder if these guys don't talk about their genius ideas with someone before going public.

If you can’t find a way to ask if someone is still into it while having sex, I’m sorry. You’re bad at sex.

Reminds me of a scene in the Amazon Prime video series 'Upload', set in a future where dying people can have their data uploaded to a virtual world where they never die, in which two of the characters get together for a bit of howsyerfather and before they get stuck in (as it were), each sits up and declares "I consent to this", the declaration being duly recorded on an ubiquitous surveillance system.

Not very romantic, but then neither is rape.

You have on dating, ie, hook up apps women stating they are not there for the purposes of assignations but behaving otherwise.

If consent had to be logged at matching it could streamline the whole process.

women are unlikely to agree to something where they cant easily change their minds

I’m all for using tech to fight crime and I’m all for improving knowledge and awareness of consent, but...this strikes me as really stupid.

The incidence of false rape charges is ridiculously low. This seems like a solution in search of a problem. If you want to make sure your actions are desired by the other party, asking them has got to be way less awkward than an app...

Poor girlies, now they are even beaten half-dead until they consent in the app and then raped officially. What a counterproductive and completely stupid idea, such a procedure.

I think the idea behind the app is that it would clarify those situations without violence where the girl nevertheless insists she was raped. If she really was "beaten half-dead" and she gets to the hospital fast enough to document the marks, I would think it'll take priority over the consent they put in the app.

Also this from a commissioner who thinks strip searching minors is ok.

So what you're saying is... women aren't allowed to choose who they do and do not want to engage in sexual activity with? I don't understand the problem?

No, most women don't let a guy do whatever he wants even if they're attracted to him. You're projecting, possibly your own failures, onto women.

At least the poor Commissioner is trying. But poor fellow, trying to solve the almost impossible problem.

Will they need a witness ?

Notarized too.

“Consent must be active and ongoing throughout a sexual encounter.”

So, this app films the whole encounter? Or they each need to swipe after each ooh or ahh to indicate consent for the next movement?

Back when I was dating, wish I had a sheet of paper with check boxes for things that were "approved" in the encounter. It was a joke, but broke the ice on sex.

The problem with an app is that someone could drug the partner, find the app, say "approved", then still have non-consensual sex. Most people still don't lock their phones. I don't allow phones in the bedroom. Don't like interruptions, especially when uh ... restrained.

OTOH, the app could be both dating and pre-approval for sex. No need to bother with talking.

Time: 7pm

Location: 4th floor toilet

Sex approved: Y/n

Seems like a good thing that way. /s

How is someone who's intoxicated, under the influence of drugs or otherwise unable to give consent going to do just that just because an app is involved?

This could be hacked. Do it properly. On good old fashioned paper.

Any couple wishing to mate have to go to their local government office, pass a sobriety test, fill in a form, with witnesses, and have it stamped by a local government officer, weekdays, 9am - 5pm.

Then they have 24 hours to consummate their contract.

The permit would only be valid for one amorous incident during that 24 hour period.

Tick boxes may be utilised for anything more exotic than the basics.

Those of a married disposition may obtain a subscription, but would not be eligible to engage with other partners.

Paw/hoof prints not acceptable, obviously. Hey, there are some very odd people out there.

If you are uncertain whether you require a permit, check first, as the fines for non-compliance would be high.

No permits would be issued during lockdown, to maintain social distancing. Or on public holidays, as the office would be closed.

Seriously, a voluntary, anonymised STD tracker app would be great, but not sure a consent app would work.

Maybe just stamp each other on the forehead with your hankos and get stuck in.

The incidence of false rape charges is ridiculously low.

In a 2010 study of 136 reports of sexual assault investigated by a university police department, 8 (5.9%) were coded as false reports, 61 (44.9%) did not proceed to any prosecution or disciplinary action, 48 (35.3%) were referred for prosecution or disciplinary action, and 19 (13.9%) contained insufficient information to be coded.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_accusation_of_rape

It's one study, to be fair, but 5.9% is too high to be called ridiculously low when the ostensibly aggrieved (usually) female is invoking state power to deprive a man (usually) of liberty for years.

Bring chaperones back. In public and in the open and no alcohol.

All of this due to the behaviour of the politicians and their staff. Setting a great example.

There is no “app for that” when it comes to sexual relations - unless it is a complete recording with a sobriety test. There has to be witnesses and evidence to prove sexual assault or rape. Otherwise it’s just her word against his.

If you are a woman who gets her share and is afraid one of your hookups will assault you, there are some easy solutions to your problem. But it involves the understanding that you must be careful in a way men generally do not have to be. Live stream it, get sober witnesses to watch, hire a referee to judge your encounter in real time to call out falls and issue penalties for any and all infractions. Just don’t expect privacy.

Or you could find a nice nerdy boy who is afraid to have a meeting alone with a girl and have most of your worst fears put to rest. But in life, nothing is 100%. Play the odds and play it safe. Don’t get drunk alone with the football team after the big game. That used to be common sense. But common sense takes a back seat to a woman’s right to risk getting assaulted.
