"Like countries around the world, ....."

Australians doing a great job.

Then you got this one country, where everything is "please, if you don't mind, would you ...".

Yes, I know, this is a "constitution thing", but how about making minor changes that might be necessary?

Yeah, Australians are doing a 'great' job now, after repeated calls for social distancing and stay at home pleas were ignored by many Australians. Pictures of crowded Bondi Beach not long ago showcased how shockingly blase people in Australia were. Anyone that thinks the citizens of any country but Japan followed shelter in place orders immediately and without any governmental intervention clearly is making things up.

Australian Government like the other governments around the wold are repsonsible for this disaster world wide.

If they had of restricted travel from the infected area / areas initially this all could have been avoided, but now billions of people are living under very difficult conditions.

Time our govts were all given a big WAKE UP call.

@klausdorth - It's amazing isn't it. Abe has been talking about changing the constitution for years and has made it his most important political aim. Now, when we actually NEED a minor change to the constitution in order to make specific orders that will benefit the health and lives of the whole population, Abe is amazingly silent on anything constitutional.

To show what a 'great job' Australians were doing, that led to these draconian measures of police enforcement to include heavy fines and possible prison sentence, allow me to present these links:

* Hundreds of Australians arriving from China, Japan and the Middle East ignore coronavirus social distancing rules after landing at Sydney Airport

First Bondi, now Manly: Northern beaches residents – with one of the highest instances of coronavirus in Australia – ignore social distancing measures to enjoy a day by the water

If Australians were doing such a 'great job,' then the draconian measures would not have been needed.

These are all easily found information online. What was that about those who are loudest to accuse others of whitewashing history? And down voting this post is not a proper response.

and yet their curves have flattened out in many states, WA number of cases actually dropping, NZ Singapore are also doing much better than most countries, you can find these stats online also

Yeah..,.and one day after those idiots crowded Bondi beach all the authorities from PM down to media to majority of Aussie told them off for being such dumba...sses and Bondi got shut down the next day.

Meanwhile here the hopeless Abe Inc...still can,t pull their finger out of their proverbial.....imbeciles.

so call draconian measures , like aggressive testing, social distancing and quarantining is working in Australia, NZ , Singapore. So yes draconian measure do and have proven to work. China and India are taking excessive measure and now their curves are on downwards trend. Countries that are have not acted quickly enough Italy France USA UK are all paying for it now, lets pray Japan doesn't fail also.

Good on ya mate!

@HBJ Abe will only make constitutional changes if it benefits economically. He doesn't care about the health of society.

That hound has got the physical distancing thing down pat...

Yesterday I view a clip showing the Aussie police patrolling a park and they stop and told a mother who was breast feeling her baby to move on. In the audio you could here the policeman stating only walking around the block was permitted and stop and resting is not allowed. This was a instance when logic was to be used instead of a "move on" order and a warning of a "fine" was not warranted, This is due to the very poor leadership the NSW police have. In the same clip the head of police was fronting a press conference just are the Governor had finsh her address and was asked same questions. He was asked about whether his office were over rigorous in preforming the new rules. He replied, "We get It " and added "it bad legislation" while the Governor was standing right next to him. No, it was over zealous officers not using logic. Not all office are clearly fools like the two in the clip but blaming the Government because the head of police can not interpret hastily made rules, is very bad form.

Sometimes Australia’s story is that of behavour by morons and consequent socio-political knee-jerk responses by institutions, COVID-19 NOT withstanding.

Well done,Australia.

Up the Aussies !!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It's a basic "if you keep this up" statement... so as long as Aussie stick to what they are doing all good.

The idiots who lapped it up down on the beach are going to carry a heavy burden knowing they helped to plunge the Aussie economy into depression.

Wonder what they'll be thinking when they see Xi's cronies swoop in to buy up the country for a song.

Considering a good portion of them on Bondi beach were foreign backpackers, they probably dont care too much. In fact, many are still partying on as we speak in the backpacker hostels of Bondi - despite all the pleas from the police not to.

So far, a reasonable job has been made by Aussie authorities in "flattening the curve". However last weeks ban on incoming foreigners (of whom Americans and Europeans were by far the greatest factor in introducing the virus) is having the biggest effect.

It does seems to be working, so I hope the spread gets under control shortly. There's a lot of people whose lives and livelihoods depend of being able to get back to work and education as soon as possible.

And just yesterday, the Queensland government approved a 3% pay rise for state public servants while businesses and private-sector workers all over the country are forced to shut down / out of work - the same people whose work and profits pay the public sector's salaries. Shameful doesn't begin to describe the situation.

Infuriating. Even without this payrise, govt employees for the most part are not sharing a the pain of other Aussies. Ive got a few public servant mates who are rather enjoying their "work" from home, on full pay and benefits. Top blokes so good luck to them...but a payrise right now is plain wrong!

Oh its a mess alright.

You can beach fish in NSW...but not Victoria.

Gun sales are an essential service in Queensland.

PM's wife goes shopping for kids {jig saw puzzles }.

This described as "essential " by the PM.

No beach swimming or surfing but pairs exercising in parks OK.

Yep...a big mess of tangled spaghetti rules.
