CCP intent on killing the goose that laid the golden egg. RIP to the Pearl of the Orient.

Avoid Hong Kong, China like the plague. It is a super dangerous police state where speaking out in favour of democracy is a 5 year minimum sentence.

Any international company that hasnt moved out of that dump doesnt deserve any sympathy for what will happen to them.

Give Hong Kong the "Cuba Embargo" treatment until the Beijing "commies" pay a big price for their despotism. A revo;lt of the Hong Kongers might have a domino effect on bringing down the repressive regime from the North like the Solidarnosc movement in Poland.

Alas no, it is a different situation. Let us us hope our current spineless governments find enough courage to defend Taiwan.

China continuing to show her true colors.

Journalist? Or propagandist for the western media? Pretty sure it's the latter.

Australia is probably the most anti-China country after America. Check out the dirty work ASPI does. It is a cardinal sin to even say something which isn't bad about China in Australia.

Surely it up to each individual country who they let in. Why should the Chinese government be answerable to those outside china when it comes to such a matter as this????

Don't be fooled. Much of the political anti China rhetoric in Oz land is just a front. China has many Ozzie politicians and big business people in their pockets. And Aussie leadership is emulating Chinese style tyranny. The once 'lucky country' had ruined it's previously respected reputation. Such a shame.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Fits right into xi’s xenophobic plan for China. That’s his plan to stay in power forever!!!

Western journalists will slowly get kicked out of China, independent reporting scares Xi and his cronies!!!!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The Journalist is better off leaving Hong Kong before being arrested by the CCP minions. The only journalists allowed are the ones that print what they are told to print and nothing else.

Hong Kong has gone to the dogs. Smart people will leave and improve their lives in other countries where they are free to express any opinions and ideas, even ones the CCP does not like.

Standing up for your sovereignty and freedom is never a front.

China has many Ozzie politicians and big business people in their pockets.

One or two is not many. And they are shut down when found. One of the reasons China is angry with Australia.

Total rubbish spouted by anti vaxxers and anti lock down fringe. If you want to look at nations that have lost respect in the world just look at China ( in a nosedive) and the US when under Trump.

Australia is a beacon of stability and friendly people. The Government only loses respect in it's continued support for coal and insufficient action on climate change. Not really alone on insufficient action on climate change though.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Thanks @BigYen.

China is out on it's own, but Russia also frowns on journalistic freedom to tell the truth. Say what your told and write fake puff pieces about leadership. There are other similar nations but they get pointed out by the free press of the world too.

Australia is a beacon of stability and friendly people.

The land that gave us Rupert Murdoch and the popular Sky News Australia. More toxic than Fox News.

Beacon of stability? With Morrison, yeah!

Did I mention all the anti-Asian hate in Australia? As old as the colonialism in Australia.

What is your definition of stability, where a select group of corrupt officials declares their boy a leader for life????

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Did I mention all the anti-Asian hate in Australia? As old as the colonialism in Australia.

So much hate towards Asians that we invited hundreds of thousands to live with us as equals and call Australia home.

China has much more anti Australia sentiment.

Any international company that hasn't moved out of that dump doesn't deserve any sympathy for what will happen to them.

That's a bit rough, fair nuff international companies not getting out but labelling HK a dump is a bit heavy handed for HongKongers still there busting theire bums off working for those international companies..

Where do you get your image of Australia from, 1950?

From the western media! Anti-Asian racism has been on the rise everywhere, and that includes Australia. And how are the aborigines doing today? If there was ever an example of cultural genocide, then this is one.

So what if there are many Asians in Australia? There are a lot of Blacks, Hispanics and Asians in America too, but it, along with Australia, are still having race relation problems. You need to look in the mirror.

Cronulla riots, assaults on Indian students and asylum seekers, Covid-19 related anti-Asian violence, neo-Nazi groups, Pauline Hanson. If Australia wants to stop trading with its largest trading partner, then fine. No skin off my back. Guess who'll do more trade with China?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

If Australia wants to stop trading with its largest trading partner, then fine. No skin off my back.

Get the facts right, it is CHINA that reduces trade with Australia, not the other way around.

As you got that fact completely wrong, all your other statements given from an anti Australia perspective are also suspect. On the China payroll perhaps.

No rise of anti-Asian sentiment in Australia. To be fair there is always someone having a go at someone else for something in most countries and Australia is no different, and neither is China.

You talk about aborigines and I can talk about Tibetans and Uighers. You talk anti-Asian sentiment and I talk of your anti-western sentiment. You think China is good and I say it is horrible. More than one point of view in the world and no nation is bathed in innocence.

It is ironic that Australian media is complaining about freedom while they said nothing about the loss of freedoms of Australians who faced month after month of police enforced lock down.

Australian media write about protests and publish opinions and facts. Unlike the Chinese media.

Considering the vast majority of Australians supported the lockdowns across all political parties, I wonder what your talking about. Australia is one of the most free nations on the planet dealing with a medical emergency as science recommends. Some people complain about anything including monday's. Most Australians are not complaining, we are dealing and surviving covid as best we can.

You may complain about that but apart from a few fringe elements, Australia's population knows, understands and supports the covid response with the possible exception of a slow start to the vaccine rollout. All these things are openly reported by the media and discussed with both sides talked about and published.

Chinese media control is extreme. Australia is open and in comparison to China, much more trustworthy. The loss of openness and honesty from the Hong Kong media is China's loss.

@Peter14 The vast majority of Chinese citizens do not want Australian reporters.

The vast majority of Chinese citizens do not want Australian reporters.

The vast majority of Chinese people do exactly as their government tells them to do, and when that government says start hating Australia, the do as they are told. They do it to Japan from time to time.

Those interested in the truth in China, not just the CCP narrative, are interested in what free journalists have to say.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Peter14 Same in Australia.

Australia had 1,400 cases yesterday while Japan with significantly fewer people had 198. Did the severe lock downs really do anything except keep citizens locked up and kick thinks down the road by another year?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Japan does not do the testing Australia does and does not report cases in the same way. If it did it would be reporting many more cases than Australia.

Did the severe lock downs really do anything except keep citizens locked up and kick thinks down the road by another year?

It saved tens of thousands of lives but I guess that is nothing to some people. For us it was well worth it.

Sad that legitimate western media are being systematically expelled and refused reentry/visas to Hong Kong and mainland China. In their stead, the last thing the ‘good People’ need speaking for them are some of these self-appointed sycophants we routinely see, only emerging and trolling threads overnight, just to express their individual hate for other countries and cultures. If anything, perhaps the China government is well aware of who these whining sycophants really are and are keeping an eye on them?? - pfffffff. - Despite their constant pretensions, these ‘pathetic’ toadies definitely don’t, nor will ever, speak for any “Great Red Dragon from East” either. Perhaps they should ‘cut the drama’ and find a hobby instead ?? - Good night and may good fortune find its way to the good people of Hong Kong and China.

Only children and nations act like children.

Lots of people are denied visa to enter any country globally but if Hong Kong ( Part of China ) does so then people are up in arms bashing China! Hypocrisy at its finest ( including commenters here )! There are far worse things happening globally but just to divert the attention of its people from internal problems, many countries Governments and media as well make up propaganda about China and people are just fools to fall in that trap! Japan and The US in particular are specialists in this and recently Australia has joined them…they should try fixing their own internal problems first before pointing a finger at China!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

China often deserves the bashing they get in the worlds media. This time is a great example. Pointing fingers at other nations does nothing but confirm China can not handle the heat it creates for itself. China apologists are out today, but it will not help their cause.

Chinese propaganda is second to none, and yet it fails every time on the world stage.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Strangerland

"The majority" has been wrong before which is why mature countries have courts that uphold the right of citizens. The majority of Australians supported blackbirding until the 1930's well after other democracies had outlawed slavery.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Peter14 The vast majority of Chinese citizens do not want Australian reporters.

The vast majority of Chinese are not even aware of what their government is doing on curbing press freedom, committing genocide and other criminal activities!!!

The CCP controls all information and the people know what the propaganda machinery churns out day after day.

It is ironic that Australian media is complaining about freedom while they said nothing about the loss of freedoms of Australians who faced month after month of police enforced lock down.

China imprisoned around 30,000 people including young children in Disneyland after 1 positive case????

Did the CCP tell you about that????

The CCP now runs HK and they're turning foreign reporters away because they are scared. They don't want foreigners seeing the ugly things they do. Jiust like the Berlin Wall that was opened up last week 32 years ago, just like the Communist Iron Curtain which is no more. Scared.

It's a known fact that Red China has possibly the worst human rights record on Earth. Their CCP bans and picks on anything that is 'counterrevolutionary' to them. That's why they force all religions underground. China was long a land of several and various faiths, ideas, philosophies, etc. until Mao took over.

But Myanmar isn't much better, they're a close second. They've been in internal wars for decades against ethnic groups and languages they don't like. And the recent thugs who staged that February coup just go out killing anyone they want to just because. They don't even try to dig an excuse.
