Finally the lunacy beginning to subside. We will look back on this episode in years to come as a pretty poor performance by those in charge.

State Premier Dominic Perrottet announced that vaccinated travelers who tested negative to COVID-19 before flying to Sydney would be spared 14 days in hotel quarantine from Nov 1.

Wonderful, the government has been cautious but it is time to open up.

Vaccinated travelers carry a much lower risk and should be able to travel.

Would love to go to Sydney sometime next year, it's been a while!!!

What happens to the un-vaccinated travelers? Not welcome?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I would take being allowed to travel more than 5km from my home, and visiting friends/relatives in other prefectures,

and that is exactly what is happening as their vaccination rates are approaching 75%

If Oz wasn't so far away from Canada, I'd be one of the first on a flight. It's getting cold up here!!

The Premier for Australia and the Prime Minister for New South Wales are not very wise but at least they haven't thrown the doors wide open yet although they would if they could.

its Premier of New South Wales and Prime Minister of Australia .

theyve saved thousand of lives, theyve recorded one of the lowest infection and deaths per capita in world, and their economy GDP growth has outperformed nearly all 1st world economies in 2020 & 2021.

Not wise? well Id hate to see what you think smart is.

They are after all the kind of men that would rather place their faith in religion rather not science when it comes to plagues etc.

ScoMo must be chomping at the bit to restart the immigration ponzi scheme! Perrottet has already flagged his desire to bring in 2 million (!!) migrants to NSW over the next 5 years, as if the country's living standards hadn't already been dragged down enough.

Yes, a poor performance.

and yet Australia has a lower infection and deaths per capita than Japan, their economy has also had better GDP growth in both 2020 & 2021.

sucks when the facts prove you wrong

but also lets the world know they are welcome back in Australia

I guess many travelers are worried to go there.

Just a few new Corona cases appear, everything will be shut down again and your vaccation is ruined.

didou

With all that lockdowns and quarantine, Australia has managed to have over 2200 cases a day in average for the past 7 days.

This is well over Japan and the country is not densely populated.

Yes, a poor performance.

And yet Japan has 300% more deaths. Yes, a poor performance for Japan.

Tokyo Yokohama

Northern Europe has generally done better than Australia without the lockdowns and other restrictions.

Really? I'm not sure what you are including, but even one of Northern Europe's best performers, Norway, has had three times the death toll as Australia. Sweden has 25 times the death toll.

That will only happen if there is a new variant and surge in cases, as of now pandemic seems to be on it's way out, countries with the most restrictions will be though the last to open up..

Yep, Australia has been brutal…

I was honestly thinking of a vacation to Australia in the next 2 years but seeing the brutality used by some police has turned me right off. There are plenty of other places in the world with nice beaches.

Bad decision. About six months too early. Many more will die and the risk of new variants entering via NSW will be increased. This just means it is likely more border lockdowns will will isolate NSW from the rest of Australia.
