$ beats public safety. Can always make money can't raise the dead. Unless you are a happy clapper.

And I thought the Japanese were addicted to Chinese money. I see Australians are as well.

Universities and Businesses have shown their weak spot, their addiction to Chinese money - isn't it common sense to diversify both revenue streams and supply chain.

Unfortunately it’s all about money for some universities now. As a country we are too reliant on China and have put all our eggs in one basket..

Iron ore and coal are Australia's key exports, together worth more than $120 billion — or 30 per cent of what gets sold to foreign countries.
They are followed by education services, which rake in $32.4 billion (or 8 per cent of the nation's exports) from international students.
In 2017-18, China was by far Australia's largest trading partner, contributing $194.6 billion worth of imports and exports. This was more than the combined value of trade with Japan and the United States ($147.8 billion).

People keep saying we should not put all our eggs in one basket. However, may I ask what other basket you can find that is as good as China? Japan? USA? The answer is China is the only good basket you can put your eggs in.

People said this would happen weeks ago after the first Chinese travelers started using medicine to lower their temperature and pass airport screening. Americans have been doing a similar thing for years to visit countries like Cuba.
The difference is those Chinese travelers that get through screening will not only infect people in Australia but also infect people they come into contact in a third country. A two for one!
Stupid and pathetic move by Australia. Thanks for spreading the virus evening further Australia!
No it is not! Just because Japan and Japanese people in general have a problem with making decisive choices does not mean that other countries do too.
China's greatest resource has been a large trained workforce, but India followed by several African countries are the future.

"The answer is China is the only good basket you can put your eggs in."
Certainly.

Plus lies, lies and more lies.

The US has something like 320,000 Chinese nationals as University students. For those who came back from mainland Chn early, before the virus was known, they were asked to self-quarantine for 14 days and attend class through video monitoring.
For students who got stuck in Chn, some U's initially offered virtual classes until they could attend, but what will probably happen is many more Chinese students will attend both summer sessions to take whatever classes they can to make up the semester.
In technical degrees, there are required degree courses that are taught only once every year, so missing a spring semester could throw that prerequisite out for the next planned classes.

The article is about Chinese students being the biggest foreign intake of university education in Australia. The GDP growth of China is irrelevant. There is just no other country that can replace China in that industry.
