Stay safe folks. Heed the advice and don't get check-mated.

According to an Aussie friend, the Aboriginies knew how to avert these disasters by way of small defensive burn-offs. Then the government stepped in and said "no more."
Do the hustle
You’ve got it half right. The native Australians burnt the forests regularly over 40-50,000 years. Many Australian trees evolved to need fires in order for them to germinate. This is the reason the forests bounce back so quickly. It is true that after European settlement a lot of the burning was stopped. However, this bout of extreme fires is due to the ideology of the Greens who had controlled burning and cutting fire trails and fire breaks banned a little over ten years ago. Prior to the ban the fire service had been doing controlled burns to remove the built up fuel from the forest floors and to break up the areas of forest to stop these mega-fires.

Why are you wasting time telling us this? You need to get down to Australia right now and tell them that all it would take is small defensive burn offs to end this crisis. I'm sure all the firefighters down there are completely unaware of the concept since the government has told them "no more", even though I don't think the government actually did that, but anyway just in case you should still give it a try since they probably don't know about this technique.

So the Greens, who have controlled ZERO levels of government in Australia over the past decade (or before that for that matter), somehow managed to ban the fire service from doing controlled burns? I would be very curious how they managed that.

The Australian Greens Party have detailed policy on back burning and hazard reduction burning.
Doesn't matter because they have never been in a position of power.
Did you know , in NSW at least, a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate works are exempt from environmental laws.
Burning off needs a certificate for private landowners. You can apply online. The local Rural Fire Brigade would do the burn. Not too arduous a process.
All this misinformation about "Greens /Arsonists / etc " is being weaponized online, spread on forums like this, repeated in Murdoch Media ...all with the intent of disparaging climate science and reinforcing the conservative ideology.
Climate change has rendered Australia a giant tinderbox and now it is alight.
