Such a rort. They close down coal fired stations, export most of their gas, then take out generating capacity when there's high demand, reason given 'high gas prices makes it not viable to run generators'. My bet is for the foreseable future Aussies are going to be paying a lot more for their electricity.

BTW, the carbon offset crowd had smoke out of their ears when the government subsidized the retention of the few remaining fuel refineries left in Australia saying EVs is the way to cheaper transport cost. LOL, what a scam.

Doesn't say why the coal fired plants are "crippled". Seems to me that coal is making a comeback......

Not going to be long before the same thing happens in Japan, at least in Honshu. Don't get too used to the AC and fans, you may have to spend a few hours in the worst summer heat from now on.

Don't you just love the consequences of ill-considered Agenda 21/Agenda 2030-based "policies"?

Recipe for success the new way: Ruin baseload generating capacity by shutting down power plants that can provide a stable power supply, and haphazardly replace it with overpriced, underperforming rescrewables.

Australia is a test case for this, to see how much BS a country's population will put up with before they seriously fight back. Judging from the way most people swallowed lockdowns and vex mandates, there won't be much serious pushback, especially since the younger generations have been brainwashed with the green agenda right through school.

This is what happens when a country's leadership sells out.

The thing about being tucked away and isolated from the rest of the world is that it gives the people a strong sense of society and group. They form strong attachments, and are willing to do things for society, even sometimes at sacrifice to themselves.

Countries like that did really well in Covid, and rank higher on happiness indexes. Countries where the people are selfish, with little sense of societal obligation did poorly.

Australia heading to basket case Third World world country status at a rate of knots. This is what happens when you turn your country over to left-wing ideologues.

This is what happens when a country's leadership sells out.

The globe is in this situation because leaders everywhere have long sold out to big/oil/big fossil fuel corporations and nations and so many leaders have been bought out by them to ensure they stay hooked on fossil fuels. Long, long passed time to reduce the amount of fossil fuel burned. Unless you want Russia, Saudi Arabia, the US, UAE, Kuwait and other nations with large reserves of fossil fuels to continue to have great control over everyone, and you want to continue to breather pollution filled exhaust.

Um, it has one of the highest quality life life indexes on the planet, as well as a high happiness index.

There is a huge amount of electricity wasted, globally both commercially and privately.

I'm sure that Sydneysiders can decrease the amount of electricity they consume and see out this crisis.

What a joke of a country.

How hard is it to keep basic power on?

Maybe you should ask Texas, having their own power grid and all.

This is the beginning of the end result of all the environmentalist radicalism we see right here on the pages of JT every single day.

What they are doing right now will in the years to come destroy economies, cause massive societal collapse, and kill millions.

Which for the most committed is the desired result.

The others are just useful idiots.

Lets pray Japan steers away from this cancerous ideology.

So we need to build more nuclear, right?

Nuclear energy is the cleanest and least polluting.

If only Australia was a bit sunnier, they could fill those vast empty bits of outback with solar panels.
