the “vast majority” of them underage

Did the parents of those children know where they were? Who they were with? What they were doing?

THIS is the problem in America today. We can talk a lot about all of the issues - but there is one problem - and that is family - or lack of it. Our growth starts in our homes.

Having fathers aka role models in the house and unbiased media reporting also plays a part. All of these stories will be in and out of the news in a flash.

More of the American culture of violence. How many mass shooting just this year?

American culture?

This is one of the reasons why so many Americans could care less what the international community thinks. They have their own problems, they want us to mind our own business but they want to opine in our business. pretty insulting to the millions of Americans that want gun safety and want the politicians to enact the laws already on the books. We are.not a collective. Again, those of us that are living on farms need them. Think about that for a moment.

So the solution is also clear, don’t visit The US and if you live there leave.

Which party has the presidency and House? I expected gun control and an amendment changed. What happened?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

The U.S. gun culture is the main culprit … this madness has got to stop!

5 ( +24 / -19 )

the lowest levels of gun homicides in modern or recent times was during the Clinton presidency.

That was also the time where Biden wrote his infamous crime bill which allowed the cops to pull many of the most violent criminals off the streets.

Nothing unique about that.

I’ve lived in 4 countries on 3 different continent where farmers have guns.

And?

Never touched a gun, never heard a gunshot, never heard of anyone getting shot.

Ok, but again, no one in the US cares what other nations think of us. I’ve been to 35 countries and I have seen more knife fights as opposed to the US, I don’t judge because it’s not my country, people can do whatever they want. I could care less.

In the UK farmers are allowed guns, shotguns not high-powered rifles, assault rifles, or handguns.

I see.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Actually, it never happened

It did. All of the largest conservative cities don’t have that problem and when the Dems controlled all 3 branches they had the power to change gun laws and they didn’t, why? Because they know a large part of their voter base are gun owners.

I don't expect there will be any real lasting changes after November.

I expect they will enforce the gun laws on the books especially when many of these liberal governors are replaced.

By your own posts, you claim to live in Japan for six months and Texas for six months

Yes

.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Well I'm sure the Japanese community could care less what you, an American in America, thinks

Well, not really since they do need us to protect them, but other than that..

so why do you constantly post and give your opinion on Japan and other countries' issues.

I give opinions, but I’m not looking or expecting the country to change, so it’s all good

Sure rifles and shotguns make sense but you need handguns and automatic firearms on a farm? LOL!

Personally, I don’t, can’t speak for other people, but if you’re a gun collector and that’s what you like, then that’s your personal choice.

The Columbia Police Department announced the arrest of Jewayne M. Price, 22,

It’s “off topic” who the above shooter is that is mentioned in the article?

https://www.foxnews.com/us/south-carolina-mall-shooting-suspects-bond-set-at-25000-can-go-to-work-with-ankle-monitor

he can even go back to work like nothing even happened. Isn’t this a problem?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Why don't we see daily mass shootings in other developed countries. Oh, yes--people don't own guns. It really is a simple as that.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Your typical day in the land of the free, nothing out of the ordinary.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

you have made numerous posts on non-American countries especially Japan where you live and European ones.

And?

You could suggest better gun control.

I suggest the laws that are in place. Enforce them and allow the police to do their job, whatever it takes and watch the crime go down.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

why are so many young black men killing other young black men in the US?

Could be something to do with gangs, drugs, opportunity, education, discrimination and racism....? The availability of guns doesn't help.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

But the streets of America are paved with guns. Something must be done about it otherwise more mass shootings will be published.

yes and who exactly is "in the streets of America"? Who is out at the club at 2am?

Who are in gangs?

Its not the law abiding, legal gun owner is it?

1 ( +9 / -8 )

There are many that would rather not own or carry a gun but it's necessary to protect yourself and loved ones or property.

If I lived in America, I would own a gun. If you live in a war zone, being anti-gun will not stop you from being shot. That's like expecting a bull not to charge because you're a vegetarian.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Nearly all guns begin as licensed ones. Ghost guns made from parts need prevention. 3-D printing. Private gun sales. Gun fairs. Gifting guns to teenagers. Ban internet sale of guns. Buyback programs. Ban assault rifles and other military-grade weapons.

Never going to happen and this is why people like O’Rourke campaigning on gun confiscation is just pure delusional, it’ll never happen because the guy will never be governor, that he would even of campaigning on that idea alone is a political suicide.

If I lived in America I would move back to Japan as quickly as possible.

Depends on where you live in America.

Americans keep telling us, the place is full of crazy criminals

There are crazy people everywhere, Russia has quite a few as well and Europe had a lot of crazy people running it. Craziness is not exclusive to just Americans

who are armed to the teeth and just looking for trouble.

You may not be looking for trouble, but trouble may be looking for you and if I have feral pigs eating my crop or a coyote killing my chickens, then, yes and without question I am getting my gun. Not even an argument.

Most definitions of mass shootings now require 4 people killed to use this term. But the media is very inconsistent in following that mostly to make the data muddied.

that’s how bad this is and hiding and deleting the commonality of the racial component solves nothing.

0 ( +9 / -9 )

so, who has been "in charge" for all of 2022?

New York City Mayor Eric Adams agreed with former NYPD commissioner William Bratton that progressive politics played a role in the increase of crime in American cities on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.

"The scales right now are tipped very heavily in favor of the reforms of the progressive left. Well intended, some needed, but a bit too far, and what we have as a result is this growing fear of crime, this growing actual amount of crime in almost every American city," Bratton said during an appearance on the "Bloomberg Businessweek" podcast Thursday.

Freedom isn't free .

Quoting a Team America song doesn’t help your argument.

How come other countries don’t have to arm themselves to protect themselves, their property and their loved ones? Are they not ‘free’?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Your governments love messing around in other peoples' business.

Yeah, because everyone needs our help, money, food, weapons etc. now do I think we should? Not really. But for Europeans to criticize us…ok and? You can give or offer us anything legislatively to change or enforce our gun laws, but if you want to critique, do so.

Japan is still paying for US forces to be here,

Of course or do I need to go into the history as to why? I think not.

So considering that kind of crap that the US dumps on the rest of the world

and vice versa

you won't mind if we have opinions about what goes on in the US,

Oh, you can, but no one in the US cares, what we do care about is that the next election will bring the rule of law back and a stop to the lawlessness that for some reason the left feels is just not a serious priority for them. There you go.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

After November a lot of the current leadership will change and the police can and will be allowed to do their jobs properly and efficiently as they were hired to do.

I suggest the laws that are in place. Enforce them and allow the police to do their job, whatever it takes and watch the crime go down.

Supports police today...was defending the far-right domestic terrorists who put 140 police officers in the hospital yesterday, and bad-mouthed the FBI last week...

Welcome to the "it changes every day" hypocritical world of MAGA...

US homicide rate is 4.6. UK homicide rate 1.2.

What is the rate on a racial breakdown?

Not full of. Same groups of people and even same individual people sometimes.

did you see this person is already out of jail and can even return to work? You shoot 14 people and you just go back to work on Monday?

progressive politics. No accountability for criminals because race makes them a “protected class”.

bass4funkToday  12:23 pm JST

Yeah, because everyone needs our help

No. We really don't. You could keep your money and whatever else, use it to sort out your own problems, and everyone else would learn to get along just fine.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You could appeal to JT and the media to stop publishing these tragic and violent shootings?

No, I’m just saying, it’s funny how the media focuses on the negative side of guns, but they rarely will but a story out about how cans can save lives, farms how beneficial they are in agriculture and conservation efforts. But that wouldn’t sell, I work in the business and know how sensationalism works. I get it.

The majority can not enact better and safer gun laws because they are opposed.

Yes, by the politicians in the largest cities in the US, they don’t support stringent gun laws on the books or even supporting or funding the police and who suffers overwhelmingly? Minorities suffer the most and the leadership does nothin and so the murder and crime rate continue to spiral out of control.

But you do not live on a farm.

I live on a farm in Texas. I’m not the first person to own two homes.

Something must be done about it otherwise more mass shootings will be published.

After November a lot of the current leadership will change and the police can and will be allowed to do their jobs properly and efficiently as they were hired to do.

Likely none of these shootings was committed with a licensed gun. So more gun control is a pretty silly way to address this issue

The vast majority of illegal guns were purchased legally by supposedly responsible owners who sold or gave them away privately.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Its a good question, why are so many young black men killing other young black men in the US?

Systemic racism. People born into poverty, without any hope of rising out of poverty, will on average be more prone to violence.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

all these deflections away from WHY this is happening and WHO is doing it.

progressive politics and the infantilization of Black males plays an outsized part.

bass4funk: "This is one of the reasons why so many Americans could care less what the international community thinks."

You're right -- because it's either "don't care" or else have to accept logic and ACTUALLY pretend YOU care about the loss of life. It's clear Americans who support guns have neither logic, nor care about anyone but themselves.

Like I said, line up the gun-nutters in circles every where in the country, get them to draw their guns and start firing. Leave everyone else alone.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Which party has the presidency and House? I expected gun control and an amendment changed. What happened?

I’ve said this many times. The gun problem in The US is too broken to fix. Too late.

Citizens or visitors will just have to deal with the constant fear of being shot. That’s it.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Zichi

Violence isn't USA culture .

Thats right buffoon the article says U.S. as in the United States of America .

Not America !

Which country are you referring to in America Zichi ?

Having personally lived in the USA for 33 years i can assure iam more qualified to describe exactly what is the USA culture.

And after 15 years of living in the UK i can tell you the British have a more violent past of attacking innocent countries than any other nation on earth.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

In the UK farmers are allowed guns, shotguns not high-powered rifles, assault rifles, or handguns.

If all Americans had high-powered rifles, there would be less deaths from mass shootings, as the people who would be shot in a society with less guns, will instead shoot back killing the gunman. While the gunman will still die, that's only one death, whereas right now, with many Americans unarmed, usually the gunman takes out multiple people before someone shoots him.

More Americans need to be armed, and they need to do it younger.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Nothing unique about that.

I’ve lived in 4 countries on 3 different continent where farmers have guns.

And?

You tell me.

You were so keen on using farmers as evidence of why guns are necessary.

I was pointing out the fact that farmers everywhere have guns. But only The US has a gun violence problem. So farmers are irrelevant.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Let’s research it scientifically. There are the following four possible cases and their outcomes. 1 no gun and a peaceful mindset - you are becoming the victim in every situation, a 0% chance 2 no gun and a violent mindset - you produce victims by other means like knives but become a victim in case of guns used by the opponents, an averaged 50% chance 3 owning a gun and peaceful mindset - you have a 50% chance or less when defending adequately. 4 owning a gun and a violent mindset - you have nearly 100% chance against categories 1 and 2 because they don’t have guns , a chance of 50% or significantly above against category 3 members as they are only defensive and you have a reduced chance of 50% or less against other violent and gun equipped people in your same category 4.

Now that might give you a clue why anyone there with clear minds and knowing how many weapons of all kind are in circulation there, would rather choose being in a category above or other than category 1. And even those crazy precarious and wild youngsters of color or not , they surely understand that quickly with their dwarf’s brains.

Zichi

If you think USA culture is violent then you must think Japanese anime is violent ?

Anime being Japanese culture and you living in Japan.

Therefore you yourself live in a violent culture.

As of this reading, the Easter weekend still has 9 hours to go... People complain that 'guns' are the reason that people shoot at each other but, truth be told, ALCOHOL is way more often the guiding 'spirit' of fatal encounters in America than guns per se. Add in nonhostile deaths from ALCOHOL ingestion causing any number and manner of misadventure and even Heroin starts to look benign.

yamada1043Today 07:17 am JST

The U.S. gun culture is the main culprit … this madness has got to stop!

Many cultures find guns to be attractive possessions (see: Switzerland) but few use them as often as Americans in interpersonal relations. Unfortunately, the "madness" of 'owning guns' in America comes from an awareness of the tendency of American 'Authorities' to find a fascistic approach to government attractive. The first thing the British did when taking control was to strip the Palestinians of their weapons. How did that work out in the face of murderous racist fascism? It's not the guns, it's the culture...and the desperation that lies just beneath the surface in so many who live in America.

Indeed not. I think there are some countries with otherwise stringent gun control laws that still allow farmers to have guns. Who else really needs them?

Your governments love messing around in other peoples' business. They also prop up some pretty horrible regimes. They bankrolled the LDP in Japan through the CIA, for instance. Japan is still paying for US forces to be here, So considering that kind of crap that the US dumps on the rest of the world you won't mind if we have opinions about what goes on in the US, just like you can go ahead and say whatever you think about other countries' affairs.

Zichi - the G7 and G20 or United Nations all refer to the United States as the United states and not as America.

Only uneducated people refer to them as Americans.

Furthermore not all people living in the United States are Americans from whatever continent or country in America.

If your 20 family members dont own a gun or any of your relatives since the 1800's then i don't believe you.

To live in the USA and not own a gun is just plain dumb.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Next time you travel to the USA don't expect anyone else to protect you without using a gun.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Try living in the USA without owning a gun .

Perhaps then you would understand.

There are many that would rather not own or carry a gun but it's necessary to protect yourself and loved ones or property.

Funny how it’s never a NRA card holder doing these shootings.

The ‘good guy with a gun is’ never around to stop them either. Why is that?
