This was the man that so many Americans were desperate to claim was the perfect representation of Islam's threat to America - a decision they mostly made based entirely on his name.

That really tells you everything you need to know about what drives this conversation.

......and while his wife was taken into custody yesterday she still wears her wedding band which symbolizes unity.

The only important detail in all of this is how he easily got -- or anyone can get-- such a tremendous weapon.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

What exactly is so different with that weapon and a semi auto pistol BS?

Grand Jury will be investigating his new wife. At least once she accompanied him to buy massive ammunitions Wife said he was telling attacks for months (CNN news)

Good point. Bullet firing weapons of any sort can kill quickly and easily. Of course .50 caliber assault weapons and others like them (many of which, as you know, can be easily converted to fully automatic) can be some of the most destructive, can even take out the representatives of government like the police and military. But that's what the 2nd Amendment hardliners want isn't it, the right to overthrow the government? Why is it that each time I read posts from gun hobbyists who keep private arsenals, some who even threaten 'come and take it', I keep thinking they're THE most anti-American of all the various domestic anti-American groups?

From the comments of the girl who was in the club (and got shot), it does appear that the attack was not religiously motivated, but rather in anger at continued bombing of Afghanistan.

As I've repeatedly said, bombing countries and killing innocents only creates more enemies, it doesn't reduce them. This guy is proof of that. It's just that this time the Americans are noticing, since the retaliation was at home and not in some distant place that people couldn't even find on a map.

The USA is a gun culture. That`s the only explanation.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@pointvkew: I think visitors to USA should bet a bullet proof vest right away after getting out from airport.

Senate Dem party is going to filibuster to pass a new gun control law. Reid said if GOP senators agree new gun control laws, Reid will make to stop filibuster and work together to make USA safer.

"The USA is a gun culture. That`s the only explanation."

And yet the JIhadi mass murderers in Brussels, Paris and Mumbai had bigger, more potent gun collections. This incident is much more about Jihadist strategies and ambitions than America's unique gun culture.

The conversion is not as easy as you think PT. Few can be converted and those that can be converted rarely are. They were also produced decades ago not to mention it is a federal offense. .50 caliber weapons are not assault weapons. They are way too powerful and heavy. They are 1000m target rifles and not even ideal for that. They are expensive and slow to recover after a shot and certainly not an assault rifle.

I don't think you are aware that private citizens can buy true assault rifles. Class 3 tax stamp I think it's called and I can buy a machine gun. Full auto rifle or pistol. Again, these are expensive and for about 20-25 years are no longer available as new. Only registered guns are available in the used market. They are not used in crimes though. Hint....a much deeper backround check. I am all for that in general.

the so called assault the press always describes incorrectly is a semi auto rifle looking like the real thing. They are not automatics as many who don't know about them describe them.

So you agree they can be converted.

I'm fully aware that private citizens, including gangbangers (of ALL ethnicities), 'come and take it' yee-haw-dists, other whackos and sickos and just about anyone wanting to commit a terroristic act can buy them. And have them converted to fully automatic.

Correct me if I'm wrong; it's been a long time since I've been around weapons of mass destruction. But aren't most semi-automatic weapons able to fire a metal bullet each time you pull the trigger, maybe one round a second or so? If so, to me that's scary that private citizens, including gangbangers (of ALL ethnicities), 'come and take it' yee-haw-dists, other whackos and sickos and just about anyone wanting to commit a terroristic act can buy them. And then have them converted to fully automatic.

Senate is in filibuster now.

Trump will be discussing with NRA,

There are many people who collect guns.

@PT....Why is it you liberal types either read what you choose or twist the truth? "Few" can be converted. Those made prior to mid 80's. Very few designs are able to alter into full auto and not controllable if they are. So, machine guns are not used in crimes. Crooks are stupid for the most part.

To buy an assault copy and convert it to full auto is not done, you can't buy them in stores anymore other than the rare used one and know a bit to convert with the right tools.

Well, I've never been around weapons of mass destruction myself so I can't comment on them.

Your wrong. Conversion is not possible unless you are very skilled and have the highly restricted parts needed. One trigger pull, one shot = semi-auto. And it doesn't scare private citizens can buy semi auto rifles, shotguns or pistols. They occasionally stop crimes yet the MSM doesn't want that published.

Two ways to get a fully automatic assault rifle. Class 3 tax stamp or steal one from a police car in some cities. The second is easier if you're the law breaking type. Conversion.....not for the simple minded. A long search for the correct time period used gun and refined skills then the replacement parts (HIGHLY REGULATED) which means law enforcement only.

Let's see how you will twist this one now....

If you have been around semi-automatic weapons you've been around weapons of mass destruction. In my opinion. Which legally obtained weapons were used in Orlando? Charleston? Sandy Hook? and too many others to name. What were the death tolls in each of those? I'll call that mass destruction. Would you call that freedom?

Looks like the authorities and the apologists are running with the "mental disorder" excuse. Anything, but to address the ideology of Jihad.

While the Jihadis are quite clear about what motivates them, the politically correct crowd is determined to remain in their phantasy world.

The next jihadi attack is not far away... lets what the excuse will be. Mental problem, workplace incident, GW Bush, Israel, racism.... whatever strawman they can find.

Your wrong. Conversion is not possible unless you are very skilled and have the highly restricted parts needed.

When people suggest that weapons should be restricted, the pro-gunners' response is that they will find a way. When people point out that semi-automatics can be converted, the pro-gunners' response is 'no it's too hard'.

Quite the bias there.

...but you have also been telliing us that the guy was American. So what is the logic here? He is "American" when you are blaming American gun laws, and the same guy is Afghani when you are blaming American foreign policy?

Logical disconnect anyone?

...but you have also been telliing us that the guy was American.

He was American, or are you claiming otherwise?

So what is the logic here?

He clearly stated that he was unhappy with the bombing of Afghanistan, or are you claiming otherwise?

The bombing of Afghanistan is being done by Americans, or are you claiming otherwise?

He is "American" when you are blaming American gun laws

Yes, he is American. Or are you claiming otherwise?

and the same guy is Afghani when you are blaming American foreign policy?

I have not claimed this. Or are you claiming otherwise?

Logical disconnect anyone?

Where is the logical disconnect? I just laid out all of the points above.

Senate finished filibuster. 16+ hours. They will be working on 'no fry', 'no buy' registration now. Trump says He always loved LGBT peope. Trump 37%. Hillary 49 %

Americans got to see the Real Donald Trump here. And they don't like what they see. Three polls since Sunday, and it Bad News for John MCain, in a big way. Trump down nationally across the board.

Who could have seen this coming? Who could have possibly predicted the very stuff that makes Trump Trump and the therefore darling of the bigoted, nativist, small America right wing would turn the rest of America off light? Well, just aboutt everyone.

“I am getting I-told-you-so delivered to my house by the truckload every day,” Rick Wilson, the Florida Republican consultant who has vocally opposed Trump from the beginning, told me. “I am eating up the I-told-you-so like a fat kid eats cake.”

Wilson had little patience for the idea that Trump might still turn it around. “He’s 70 years old. He’s a narcissistic sociopath. He’s not going to change,” he said. “There is no better version of Donald Trump, no mindful, serious, presidential version, only the reality-TV, con-man, pro-wrestling dipsh*t Donald Trump.”
