They didn't cross into Iranian airspace. Nothing illegal there.
We know that Iran could have taken out the BUFS sing anti-aircraft missiles, just like they shot down the Ukrainian airliner last year.

A.) The B-52s took off from the USA ("Flight-tracking data showed the two B-52s flew out of Minot Air Base in North Dakota")
B.) The B-52s did not fly over the country of Iran, but around it (which is allowed by everybody including Iran, thru International rules of air space)
C.) Iran is free to build bases in Venezuela and Cuba and fly around the USA - if they can afford it
