Oof. How is this not a top headline?

The meme of the coup should be that happy guy who scooped up the chicken in the PM's compound. His family ate well that day.

What is it about the people in South Asian and/or there history of British imperialism that makes the governments so fragile?

Sheikh Hasina turned dictatorial over the years but India preferred her over the opposition because she was secular and also remembered the help that India provided to her father Sheikh Mujibur Rehman during the Bangladesh liberation struggle.

Still, she became adept at playing off India against China and benefited from both sides.

The opposition BNP boycotted the elections earlier this year and the US and UK raised concerns that the elections were not free and fair. But the BNP is allied with Jamaat-e-Islami, an Islamist party which wants to impose Sharia Law in Bangladesh so this is not good news for anyone concerned.
