Bangladesh siege highlights Japan's development aid overseas

Japan should stop handing out aid to Bangladesh by our hard earned tax, pull out Japanese investment and JICA voluntary activities.

What is Japan getting in exchange of all of these? Dead bodies of its citizen! Enough is enough.

Sovereign countries have their full and exclusive right to take care of any cases occurred within their jurisdiction, their territory and it has to be solemnly respected. Something like Iraq invasion should never have happened.

There are thousands of grieving British/American mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters wishing that the US and Britain did have something similar to Article 9, before they invaded Iraq.

One might even go so far as to say that the LACK of Article 9 in certain western countries is more responsible for the ISIS than anything else.

ISIS and other terrorists don't just pop up in a vacuum. They are generally a response to what they consider as aggression by non Article 9 type countries.

If the Americans, British or French can't protect their citizens outside their borders - they're not 'hindered' by any Article 9 - then I don't see how changing Article 9 will make Japanese overseas any safer.

This poor cogitation of the Japanese right always amazes me.

Toshiko, this type of thinking will lead Japan down the road to war AGAIN. Consider what you are implying here, change article nine, allow Japanese troops to invade other sovereign countries when Japanese citizens are at risk.

It's obvious that even Japanese people misunderstand what Article 9 is about if you think it could be used here in a situation like this. This hostage case is not the place for the Japanese military, and to assume that they could have been used to protect these people means you believe the Japanese government has the right to use force in a foreign country.

Too many Japanese were killed. Because Article 9 only allows when country is attacked J can use JiYeiTai. So, Japanese are not protected oversea.
