if she ascribed to Islam instead of Catholicism while holding the same views, the Right would be going bonkers.

Forget the part about being a religious extremist who believes women should be subservient. Forget about the utter hypocrisy of appointing her at this time when Merric Garland was “too close” to the election 9 months out. Forget that she was chosen to take away a women’s right to choose and health care during a pandemic.

She’s not qualified. Law School professor to SCOTUS in 4 years? I think not. She’s a hand maiden sent to do the bidding of others. Much like Thomas, the GOP needed a Republican of a certain demographic and she was what they had on the roster.

In a country where religion is explicitly separated from public affairs, someone who proclaims religion has influencing her decisions should be debarred. Abortion is a case in point- opposition to early term abortion is always a religious judgement.

If someone who wasn’t Christian publicly proclaim “I view the law as a means to bring the Kingdom of Got to Earth.” they wouldn’t even get interviewed.

I graduated from Catholic High School and I can say with assurance that Amy - three names’ views not in line with main-stream Catholicism. She’s a religious zealot.

Sad that the political left intentionally lies and what's worse is that some people actually believe it.

Are you sure it’s just the left Randy? Seems a bit of a white and black label.

She's a great choice if you want someone who is a member of People of Praise, which is a somewhat friendlier Taliban with regards to women's roles in society. "Traditional roles" seems to be the phrasing they like.

It's a buzz for those who are joyous over the idea that their country is nearing a theocracy. But for those who justly fear this Taliban-lite appointment, these are dangerous times.

...where do reason, logic, critical thinking and perspective come in?

A good question - unfortunately for Repub SCOTUS nominees, they don't. They're merely viewed as a an "unthinking bot" - and to vote whichever way the Repubs and Trump tell them too...

A couple of quotes from Judge Barrett to assuage the distraught members of the left here:

"My personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear on the discharge of my duties as a judge"

"It is never appropriate for a judge to impose that judge's personal convictions, whether they arise from faith or anywhere else, on the law."

Sure, sounds like; "It's just one person from China", "it's the flu", "it will magically disappear"...

Feel better now?

Nope...

The litmus test: how could any decent, self-respecting human feel honored by accepting an appointment by such a reprehensible creature like Trump who will himself appear before the bar before long? Alternatively, the only honorable course of action for ACB would have been to at least refuse to attend the confirmation hearings until after the election. Trump's packing the court in this blatantly unjust manner will make Republicans rue the day they ever let themselves be led by a... (insert any appropriately unspeakable word).

The final confirmation will only come in November when the American people hand down their verdict. Next year the real work of reforming the anachronistic USSC will begin in earnest: no handmaids need apply.

Isn't it quite amazing....

Judges go to school, work they're way up the system, use their experience and judgement, until they finally get to the apex - a shot at a SCOTUS seat....

And then, Repubs and Trump supporters, think they should turn into a robot and vote reflexively - no thought, no judgement, no thinking....

Essentially, they want them to turn into a blinded cult member...

Just like them...

A-lot of nervous Democrats posting on this topic today.

Nope.

Joe Biden isn't, even though he is a self-described "devout Catholic". Neither is Nancy Pelosi, another staunch Catholic. Funny you don't worry about THEM....

I wasn't aware they were on the Supreme Court...

She's in.

If Congress, want to nationalize abortion, their it nothing she can do, if a person believes a rock is their god, do it has same standing in a court

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

abuse of human rights

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Uhhhh, nationalizing abortion wouldn’t involve the courts, it would involve Congress.

Right and even if the Dems win, the SC can limit or kill it if it is (and it will) challenged and brought before the lower courts, either way, McConnell is a genius and made sure in the it comes to the GOP losing the Senate, the Democrats would have a bunch of Easter eggs to deal with. Not impossible, but the roles will be reversed and with over 300 conservative judges it’s going to be a very tough battle for them to ram crap through.

Heretic, I don't think anyone is advocating a theocracy. Judge Barrett isn't, that's for sure. Joe Biden isn't, even though he is a self-described "devout Catholic". Neither is Nancy Pelosi, another staunch Catholic. Funny you don't worry about THEM....

If Congress, want to nationalize abortion, their it nothing she can do

But they could block the ruling if their are reasonable arguments that can prove a life is being taken depending on the variables, the point is, Roe v. Wade most likely won’t be overturned, but nationalizing abortion, can’t see that happening unless you stack the courts and rubber stamp radical liberal ideology and have a one party rule, that could be a possibility.

@Ah_so

opposition to early term abortion is always a religious judgement.

Not really.

The religious sentiment is the obligation to obey 'thou shalt not kill' and 'do unto others as you would have them do to you', the sorrow at the wrong against the soon to be born child, and a feeling of responsibility to prevent such human rights occuring.

However, these sentiments are shared by both religious and non religious.

Religion aside, the scientific fact is that any video of the proceedure will show you that abortion brutally destroys the life of a soon to be born baby. On these grounds alone it is morally abhorrent and wrong.

It's a buzz for those who are joyous over the idea that their country is nearing a theocracy.

The country is nowhere even close to being a theocracy, not even 100 years ago....

But for those who justly fear this Taliban-lite appointment, these are dangerous times

For upholding the Constitution?

Barret's opening statement. Straightforward and simple. Yet, some will intentionally try to mess it up because they are losing.

"When I write an opinion resolving a case, I read every word from the perspective of the losing party," she explains. "I ask myself how I would view the decision if one of my children were the party I was ruling against; Even though I would not like the result, would I understand that the decision was fairly reasoned and grounded in the law? That is the standard that I set for myself in every case, and it is the standard I will follow as long as I am a judge on any court." She later adds that Americans deserve a Supreme Court "that interprets our Constitution and laws as they are written."

She's a great choice. Too bad the political left is muddling this up.

Now they are changing their wording on court packing by calling it 'court reform'.

Ever the children. Always trying to change the rules of the game in the hopes of winning because they know they are losing.

Biden even had the audacity to claim that President Trump is 'packing the court' and he again blatantly lied that this is the first time ever in an election year that a sitting president would select/appoint a supreme court justice when in fact it has been done a few dozen times.

Sad that the political left intentionally lies and what's worse is that some people actually believe it.
