China really needs to be quiet, they don’t have a single shred of credibility.

The ONLY country in the world that has its own space station, why would it need a meteorological balloon to spy on a country that spends its time spying on the rest of the world???..
The slaughterhouse reaction and drama queen scandal made by the US demonstrates its weakness and envious fear of the great and unstoppable development of China and the only way US try to vainly slow down that Chinese growth is with dirty geopolitical propaganda, as always..
An F-22 fighter to shoot down a hot air balloon, pathetic circus, LOL!!..

Rhetorical question??? Lol
No, just simply put, if the US spied on China they would have shot the ballon down. If China is so great then why do they have to steal intellectual property, why are they so desperate at copying technology and trying to pass it on their own but in a lesser and cheaper quality grade?
Pathetic? Then why would China whine, make empty threats and make demands when they’re the ones that violated a sovereign nation. These people are just nuts. They demand…lol

The balloon seems to have been launched several years ago, for what purpose I don't know, and drifting around the globe on the westerlies. There were reports in Japan of sighting a similar balloon last year.

She just saying what the government told her to say, they are not allowed an opinion of their own ,the balloons flew over mainly backward states

China has been well versed in this since ancient times and the West is wise to take a sober and unpartisan look at it

I thought the US has the most extensive spy operations in the world. Other countries would be laughing behind their backs for accusing a country like China whose Intelligence Agency hardly ever heard of. The balloon incident is blown out of proportion in order to please the US domestic audience. But people are getting tired of this, why is it that China has been responding and defending itself all the time? Maybe the US is laying a ground work to subjugate China one piece at a time, disinformation about China is getting out of hand. I am not a history expert but I want to know whether in the past when Japan was on the path to be number one, was it under attack and smear like China and later caved in? I read a lot of Western news, anything that showed the US in the upper hand, they will be repeating it and they don’t reveal what China is responding. For example, in every Western article, it would say that “Secretary of State Antony Blinken canceled a visit to Beijing planned for this week …”, but the fact is the meeting has never been confirmed by China which means he cancelled his own trip even before the schedule was confirmed, so what was the point of that. And, China did not even accept the call from US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin after the balloon downing incident. Biden said, “I’ve made clear with President Xi that we seek competition, not conflict," but saying one thing and acting another seems to be the hallmark of the US politics.

Hey Beijing,
Others call it getting caught and being exposed!

If I want too find out about China,I can send to Google man straight too their nuclear silos, and use GPS Coordinates to locate Chinese with APRS ham radio addresses, someone have a ham radio ,1 miles from the Great Hall Of The People, the Google man will also leave GPS Coordinates

Like North Korea, just say any ole crazy thing that pops into your mind.

In all likelihood the US has flown many surveillance balloons over China without ever being detected. The US is a lot more discrete. The balloons are smaller and the balloon and payload gondola are coated and shaped to make them almost invisible from the ground and very hard for radar to detect. The US flies their balloons in the stratosphere, 30-50km in altitude, far higher than this Chinese balloon. The US has been doing this since the early 1950s

The US is saying the equipment was for signals intelligence, not for gathering weather data. The US had apparently taken detailed imagery of it from a U-2 while it was in the air, figured out its mission and was jamming it while making sure there was nothing interesting being transmitted below it.

Chinese spy out of their embassy everyday on Japanese in Tokyo, with satellite uplink and their microwave towers, when you near them and have a frequency counter ,it would light up like a Christmas tree,it illegal to posses a scanner in Japan an unblocked scanner in the US ,in Mexico and Canada, American conversation can be listen to all day in Mexico and Canada

Beijing is annoyed the Biden is outplaying them at the PR game.

It's just shuddering, as a US citizen, to imagine all the intelligence China gathered during its unimpeded, virtual tour over the continental United States.
Blacklabel
so how do you know they didnt get any intelligence?
what makes you so sure of that?

If China doesn't like all the negative attention, the solution is simple.
STOP DOING DUMB THINGS.
That would include trying to spy on neighbors using huge balloons, but it also means being truthful to your own people and the world. I usually want to say that malice is usually not the reason for bad things happening when ineptitude is more likely. Unfortunately, that doesn't work with China.
Seems China has been flying these balloons all around Asia - over Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines and a few other countries. Looks like that spying will be done.
BTW, hopefully the entire world knows that US weather data is open to anyone, so while flying your own sub-2kg payload with a high altitude balloon might be useful and fun, it isn't necessary. The USGovt publishes all weather data for use by anyone.

It's hard to decide which part of this is the stupidest:
That the Chinese didn't think we would notice?
That the Chinese didn't think we would do anything?
That the rubes and conspiracy cultists seem to think that the US is just giving away its intel without taking steps to protect the national security?
They must have the current administration confused with the previous insurrectionist.

Because of the fear of expose China is asking for the remains of the balloon back..

2 things that make zero sense to me amid all the arguments against China's balloon and US secrets being exposed by a balloon of spy materials.
Why would anyone think a big white balloon is not going to get seen? Does China actually believe it could float about unnoticed, forever? I don't think so....
Why would the US have such a simple lack of secure information either for viewing or thru any form of communicative the balloon would intercept? If it's that easy, no wonder China wants to spy information, but a balloon to do it? A big white one? Get serious, even a 4 year old would at least disguise the moon by painting it blue. LOL!Both of those things lead me to believe the US let it happen, and whatever the balloon gathered as information, if it is national security important the US was stupid to let it be so easily discerned and if it is not, then this entire exercise is all political for America and China, as well.
So China is floating a silly balloon and America is reacting to it. What were the motives for each? I don't know China's, but for the US, it certainly gives them political clout to further ask allies to see the spying Chinese as a threat to foreign sovereignty thru knowledge and intelligence. China, for her part, wanted to get caught and create chaos, I guess, which was what? Risky enough to float a big white spy balloon, easily visible if a diligent US national security agency power, of which it is, did their job with any competence at all.
No, this was all allowed to happen and the US has proof of Chinese wrongdoing, and it's very convenient and fail proof to say to the American people, 'look at the Chinese, they're bad'. Which they may be, and as an American citizen, I'm wary of the Chinese, but not paranoid.
The balloon thing is now a US govt. controlled Chinese fearing element that greatly influences the minds of the US population to know there must be evil from Beijing going on. It's a propaganda ploy.
If this isn't the case, I'd be surprised, but the US people are easily driven to narrative and the US, as well as all countries in this decade, leans on nationalistic bias, which is so juvenile.
To screw up a quote, humanity defined in 2023: One small step for man, one smaller step for mankind.

Not just fearing element. It has consumed the news cycle. Manufactured crises. Probably to replace the Seymour Hersh bombshell.

Well, maybe it really was just a weather balloon.
The US didn't seem to think it was so serious---Biden let it drift freely over secure areas of the US mainland, doing what it wanted.
