China reported 28,127 new local cases nationally for Monday,

Beijing reported 1,438 new local cases, up from 962 on Sunday.

Wow! HUGE numbers! China's first coronavirus deaths in six months and cases continue to soar.

many businesses, especially customer-facing ones, also fear they may not survive until next year as customers continue to hold tight to their cash.

Not a very positive grass-roots economic outlook. While China says its strict zero-Covid policy means that it has seen far fewer coronavirus deaths than much of the rest of the world - although it is thought the true figure could be far higher - there have been repeated stories of delayed emergency treatment for seriously ill people in locked-down areas or quarantine facilities.

As predicted zero-covid policy does not work.

Doubling down on the insanity. Good luck with that. There’s only so much people can take before they pop.

It’s either pure, unadulterated incompetence and stupidity, or something much more sinister. Personally reckon it’s the former. Blind obedience gets tested to the limits in a massive flex of power. Let’s see if the Chinese people have the courage to wake up and fight back, or maybe it’s too late for that. Glad we get to watch it from afar!

There were two new deaths attributed to COVID-19, compared with three over the weekend, which were China's first since May.

the first REPORTED since May. That’s both more accurate and believable.

You’re welcome.

"China" could be used as a new word which means "insanity to the maximum level".

Are they not driving a huge stake into their economy? How do factories and other businesses continue to run if everyone is locked up in their homes? Well financially for other countries like Indonesia, Vietnam and so on this a great because so many companies are shifting their business out of China due to these lockdowns.

Are they not driving a huge stake into their economy?

Not only theirs but of all other countries that mistakenly put too much of their eggs on this basket.

Control over the population is the number one priority, and vaccines and effective treatments are not as useful for that purpose as lockdowns and forced testing, so the CCP is choosing to sacrifice some of the economy just to be sure the population has no chance to fight back.

You can’t compare it to other places, because they have quite another and higher population density. If they wouldn’t act early the consequences would quickly be to shut everything down for a 1.3 bln people if the viruses again spread everywhere. And btw still the numbers are very low. Others would be happy to have only such a few thousand new cases.

Two deaths attributed to Covid, out of a population of 21 million (assuming the two deaths were for Beijing).

They are just delaying natural herd immunity.

And your opening line says you can't compare. But then you make a comparison:

Others would be happy to have only such a few thousand new cases

Which is it? Can or can't compare?

Painful as it maybe to some, you can compare.

China is not vaccinated. Other countries are.

China is closed down, other countries aren't.

Why all that? China wants to control the population.

No-one can seriously support a zero approach.

A cynic may say that 'China's getting it's just dessert' with this scenario - they gave the world Chinavirus, and now it's hanging around to haunt them.

The most sinister aspect is that they know full-well what they put in this virus, and therefore know the full consequences coming down the track, hence their totalitarian repressive approach in dealing with it.

As a country, their deceitfulness is way off the scale.

It started in China, and it will end in China.

Great job at keeping these numbers low. The lowest infection rate in the world according to government statistics. Way to hold the course, and value the lives of your citizens.

Not only theirs but of all other countries that mistakenly put too much of their eggs on this basket.

The reality is, only China has shown positive growth throughout the crisis. So, saving millions if lives, and not plummeting the economy into a recession like Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Europe, CHina has come out in top.

Sounds scientific--as in science fiction.

As you yourself have recognized, the zero covid policy is not only unnecessary but causes more damage than what it can prevent, countries like Sweden demonstrate control of the pandemic can be done without causing more deaths and public health problems with lockdowns that you have disqualified.

Sounds scientific--as in science fiction.

Nothing that has not been already recognized and proved by multiple reports.

Well, the CCP conference is overs, Xi has got his 3rd term, so as expected, the numbers are trickling out, and the COVID rules being enforced. Xi doesn't really care, this is probably more about controlling the Chinese - forcing them into complete submission to the CCP.

Way to hold the course,

Indeed. Better to be hung for a sheep as for a lamb.

@Yrral Silence here on this topic. A pandemic prevention worker in a protective suit keeps watch at at residential compound after it was locked down as outbreaks of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continue in Beijing, According to you China is a very advanced country why are they still locking people down when at one time they told the entire world they had the corona virus under control! Just as I figured silence on your part because this is a China subject and not any other country. "According Chinese reporting they say there were two new deaths attributed to COVID-19, compared with three over the weekend, which were China's first since May". I wouldn't NEVER TRUST those numbers and the source!!! LMFAO it seems as if China's prevention workers are chasing the virus from one city to the next! I guess they are chasing their tails like bunnies in a white suit! You talked about the US economy well lets talk about China. Inside China, many businesses, especially customer-facing ones, also fear they may not survive until next year as customers continue to hold tight to their cash. What we see is the police curbing the people because they are getting tired and fighting back even if it means dying because that is what they are doing now.

China is able to pursue the least damaging response to Covid outbreaks because it can afford to.

Part of it is because of its size, part of it is because it's economic measuring stick isn't one quarter long, part of it is because it doesn't have an opposition party to blame the government for the short term costs, and part of it is because it isn't paying off loans (let alone paying off yesterday's loans by taking out bigger loans today)
