Of course, “conservatives” think the government should interfere in the free market because a lot of successful market participants are liberal.

The rotten way he treats his workers tells me his is not a liberal at all. His behaviors are more like those of a Gilded Age Robber Barron.

He’s definitely not a conservative for sure, but I agree Amazon is notorious for treating their employees like pure trash.

I wonder if his rocket ship is shaped like Dr. Evil's?

If we are lucky, he will stay there.

Outdoing his fellow billionaires in daredevilry, Jeff Bezos will blast into space next month when his Blue Origin company makes its first flight with a crew.

Bezos is like Schrödinger's capitalist. He is the richest, miserly to his workers and evades taxes, like Trump, which should make him a conservative darling.

But he owns the Post which was a media bête noire to conservatives and his empire sometimes promotes so-called "liberal" content so he is something of a paradox in the American political divide.

He’s definitely not a conservative for sure,

Sure he is. He's a sales puke, any lie to close the deal. Don't tax me, tax the next guy. A lot like a former President. Probably why they hate each other so much, lol.

I would actually myself define a legit space ride as the minimum Elon Musk has planned. Bezos will be off the ground for a total of about 10 minutes. Here is the trajectory Bezos will take. It barely qualifies and would not be suitable for satellites. Bezos does deserve kudos for going on the maiden flight though. That takes balls.

For the first time, I completely agree with you.

Sure he is.

He absolutely is not, nothing about him or his political beliefs point to conservatism in any way, shape or form, especially his newspaper is just über-liberal to the max.

Liberal or Conservative who wants to be taxed if you’re a job creator, but given the fact that conservatives want to break up these monopolized corporations is reason enough to try and keep the Dems in power.

A lot like a former President. Probably why they hate each other so much, lol.

Nice try, you gave it your best shot. Lol

Creates seasonal gig jobs where people have to go alternately on and off public support, using public infrastructure and welfare while avoiding the taxes that pay for these things.

Great business model and example of 'job creation'.

And I always get a kick out of throwing around these "liberal, conservative, Republican, Democrat" terms as if any of the American political mainstream would really impact Bezos' business model. except for true mavericks like Sanders or Yang.

It's called marketing. It isn't sincere. His lousy treatment of his workers speaks louder than anything his newspaper prints.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Musk saying he “couldn’t get it up”. Must have really got under his skin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He absolutely is not, nothing about him or his political beliefs point to conservatism in any way,

What he says is nothing but marketing. They are just meaningless words designed to fool the gullible. His actions, which are all that matter, are those of an old fashioned conservative Gilded Era robber baron. A century and a half ago he'd be running the "tech industry" of that era, a railroad or a big mining company.

Mr Bezos: please take Faceberg, Dorsey, Pichai (Google CEO) and Gates with you and make it a one-way trip.

Signed: everyone

Bet his ex-wife is happy he's going.

I'm looking forward to the day when Blue Origin makes me giddy in the same way that the dual rocket landings of SpaceX did.

Remember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0FZIwabctw&t=86

That link jumps directly to the landing ... can't do anything about the leading commercial. Sorry.

Any chance of less Trump comments on non-Trump stories? Not everything is politics.

He looks a bit like an artists impression of an alien. Maybe JB finally going home.

‘South Park did a great episode or 2 portraying him along those lines

Bass: Liberal or Conservative who wants to be taxed if you’re a job creator

Jeeze, you're saying Bezos should pay no taxes but his warehouse workers should?

Is this part of your platform of fighting for the working man that you so often talk about?

As a non-American, I find their attitude towards Bezos quite interesting.

American people: “America is the country where anyone can make it if they have the willpower, talent, etc.”

Jeff Bezos (becomes unfathomably rich by legal means)

American people: “Jeff Bezos is an evil capitalist! Tax the rich!”

These statements do not contradict one another. There is a difference between "making it" and "having enough wealth that you could single-handedly end world hunger and waking up every day and deciding not to do that".

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I disagree. Having that much wealth is the apex of making it.

Don't you think that someone who makes $538,926 a year, putting them in the top 1% of earners, and well over ten times the average annual earning of $35,977, has made it?

I think there comes a point when people say, "wait, you've gone beyond 'making it': you've got more money than you could ever use in a hundred lifetimes, and that is grotesque". This isn't hatred of people doing well - people often are happy when others do well, even if it doesn't make them money. It's instinctive, and I think correct, loathing of hoarding resources that you cannot possibly use while others starve.

A few years ago, Bezos had enough money that he could buy a house for every single homeless person in America, and STILL have $19bn left over. His wealth has only grown since then, and instead, he decides to... do a space tourism.

That's not making it. That's taking it.

Well, he puts his life where his money is. I respect that.

Bezos is looking more and more like a bond villian.

I agree with your sentiment, but disagree with you limiting the definition of making it to any amount of money. Bezos, Sam Walton, Bill Gates, et al are the epitomes of the “American Dream.”

I always find it shockingly hypocritical and funny when “conservatives” rail against these people given “conservatives” constantly screech about how everyone can make it if they just try hard enough. You are not in this category, though.

Why would conservatives screech about Sam Walton, who was Republican?

Would the screeching take place in a safe place?

but I agree Amazon is notorious for treating their employees like pure trash.

That's what happens when everything is left on just free market. Works on insurance too, including car and health

For the good of his abused workers and planet earth, let’s hope he stays there.

P. Smith

I can’t disagree, but it is the free market. Also, our resident “conservatives” think Bezos is liberal.

Bezos owns the swamp mouthpiece "Washington Post" and was active in shutting down dissident media, so if you take the current misleading defintion of "liberal" (there really is nothing liberal about this pro-censorship, pro-authoritarian crowd), then yes, he absolutely is. Your point?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm looking forward to Bezos buying the entire MGM catalogue and suddenly owning all The Apprentice tapes.

Although I'm sure Bezos wouldn't expose any of Trump's failings from those tapes, he has no reason to hate Trump does he?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ha! Free Market? Wrong. Bezos is a lobbyist, tax money is his friend.

Amazon

Congress’ new Covid-19 stimulus package has no additional funds for state and local governments, according to Forbes’ Sarah Hansen, even though the pandemic is causing them major revenue problems.  But while their budgets are squeezed, a new report from watchdog Good Jobs First (GJF) finds they’ve collectively given Amazon AMZN +2.1% over $3.7 billion in taxpayer subsidies.  This is especially galling at a time when Amazon just announced a 37% increase in year-over-year sales.

Blue Origin

In recent years, Blue Origin also has given its operation in the nation’s capital more muscle. It spent nearly $2 million in lobbying last year, up from a little more than $400,000 in 2015, according to OpenSecrets.org, which tracks spending. The company’s political action committee has amped up its donations as well, spending $320,000 in 2020, up from $22,000 in 2016.

The amendment quickly became another point of contention. SpaceX struck first: “The Cantwell Amendment undermines the federal government procurement process, rewards Jeff Bezos with a $10 billion sole-source hand-out, and will throw NASA’s Artemis program into years of litigation,” its flier said.

The flier noted that Blue Origin had received hundreds of millions of dollars in awards from NASA and the Pentagon for preliminary contracts but that the government “has chosen not to proceed with Blue Origin after every major development contract.”

Bezos’s company “has not produced a single rocket or spacecraft capable of reaching orbit,” SpaceX said. That was a point Musk amplified on Twitter, saying the company “can’t get it up (to orbit).”

To: Some dude

Evil? No.

Slimy lobbyist taking tax money to power his business and space projects while promoting himself through his Washington Post connections with prices like this? Yes.

Also, we’d much rather have “evil capitalists” than socialist/communist/globalist dictators, like the EU. But Bezos is no capitalist, just a very good lobbyist.

All good capitalists are very good lobbyists - name a good capitalist that's not
