@P.Smith, I'm only a Canadian, but that insurrection hit me hard. As I saw it, the flagship of democracy got torpedoed. But, the perpetrators are getting 'due process', as you say. Let's just hope some 'woke' judge won't let them off.

It's not surprising to read Trump supporters claim the assault on the capitol was not so bad, because the Trump mob attacked the police with flag poles and bear spray, but did not use the bombs and weapons they had stashed away.

-7 ( +15 / -22 )

Perhaps one of the Trump supporters would like to have bear spray sprayed in their face and then be clubbed by a flag pole.

What has surprised me the most was the host of Republicans who came out and condemned these anti-democratic insurrectionists and explicitly blamed Trump for inciting the violence...then slowly did the backtrack. putting their legs between their tales and in McCarthy's place, went to Mar-A-Lago to grovel in humiliation...

These so-called statesmen and women know what happened, and what a threat it was to our democracy - a coup that almost succeeded...yet they now try to downplay and excuse it....pitiful....

Fortunately there are a few Repubs left like Cheney, Romney and Kitzinger that have a spine, and a commitment to democracy and the rule of law....

But the coup continues - with Trump making even more outlandish lies at his cult-like rallies....

The threat to American democracy is real - and staring us right in the face....

Democracy survived? Ridiculous exaggeration. But this whole sham will be milked for all it is worth.

7 ( +22 / -15 )

I don't hate cops, I only hate the way they defend the bad within their ranks. That needs to change.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

It’s a miracle democracy survived that day.

Trump’s brown shirts would have burnt The Capitol, if not for the police!

-3 ( +16 / -19 )

Ashli Babbit suffered much worse.

She was an unarmed civilian who was shot to death.

Still playing the oldies. You’ve been corrected on this matter dozens of times.

Where was she shot again? Back, face, neck? You can’t seem to pin it down. What was she doing at the time? Go ahead, remind everyone. What’s the criminal name for such an action and the person doing it?

It isn’t ‘civilian’.

TrevorPeace,

I'm only a Canadian

Please stop depreciating your grand country. Proudly state, "As a Canadian,..."

The US democracy was never at risk. Those yahoos didn't have a plan and they were all planning to leave, go back to their RVs, campers, hotels, and most likely motels a few hours later.

A delay in whatever was happening in the Capitol that day was the worst that would happen - beside the symbolism. On a hot summer day, if the capitol building didn't have working air conditioning, they'd close it and reconvene somewhere else.

A 1 day delay isn't a risk to the US Republic.

The US is a democratic republic, neither a pure republic nor a pure democracy. It has protections against what a pure democrazy may allow to happen. It also has protections against what a pure republic can do - though perhaps not enough.

Lindsey Graham in 2016 in one of his few periods of lucidness;

"If we elect Donald Trump as our nominee it will destroy the Republican Party".....

Very prescient Lindsey - as anyone can see, we no longer have a Republican Party - it is now a Fascist Insurrectionist Party that more resembles the CCP or Putin's United-Russia party....

Remember that when you vote in 2022/24....show the forces of authoritarianism, hate and division that they have no place in our America....

There are bad cops and good cops. My late uncle who was a retired police trooper was nothing like that dauvin Chauvinist Pig. I don't hate police. We need to toss out the rotten apples but you don't destroy the orchard. And the FOP needs to root out the 'pigs' that disgrace them and give them a bad name.

What a load of codswallop. Here is the so-called 'insurrection':

'Newly released January 6 videos that prosecutors didn’t want to reveal destroy “insurrection” narrative' (LawEnforcementToday). Some 'insurrection'.

Thank you for that informative link.

Any more damning evidence? You won’t believe what happens next, watch ‘til the end?

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

Biden is correct. The Capitol Police did an amazing job against the insurrectionist mob of Trump supporters.

Yes, they did, but knowing all that, why did Pelosi not ensure the safety of the Capitol? She know of reports that a few peaceful protesters were looking to trespass the Capitol and yet, she did nothing to counter the threat.

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/other/plenty-of-evidence-nancy-pelosi-knew-and-did-nothing-about-january-6-riots/ar-BB1dHmHx

Nancy Pelosi did not want to be called as a witness in the impeachment trial because there is a “substantial amount of evidence” that she was pre-warned about the January 6 riots. “She did not want to be called as a witness because there is a substantial amount of evidence that she – as the presiding officer – was pre-warned of something might be happening on January 6,”

Imagine supporting or defending a guy who encouraged his supporters to interfere in our electoral process.

Trump never told any of these people trash or destroy anything, his exact words: "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard," the left msm continue to omit this one critical part of speech, does it absolve the trespassers? No, and does it absolve Trump of his responsibility for staging the event in the first place? As with Biden and his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, it doesn’t. The buck stops with them as leaders and they are ultimately responsible for the outcome of whatever happened and what will happen going forward.

To support a guy like this, you must really hate America and it’s democratic institutions.

Quite the opposite.

None of the insurrectionists have had their due process rights violated

Yes, they did

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-judge-says-dc-jail-violated-civil-rights-jan-6-defendant-2021-10-13/

Not releasing evidence to the public SOP when prosecutors are building a case. This means that even if there is footage from inside the building that we haven’t seen, it’s not because of some nefarious plot by Pelosi to get the insurrectionists.

If that is the case then the General public has the right to know, especially with the charges this administration seems to be laying out with the claims it professes and yet, key critical moments we are not allowed to see which every American is entitled to see. We were allowed to view every single angle of video and audio of 9-11, Boston bombing, Oklahoma Federal building attack, but the Capitol we can’t, very suspicious.

2 ( +16 / -14 )

Typically, the disingenuous Biden omitted the other half of the story: "Saved by the police" were those of his fellow politicians who put themselves on record that day as betraying democracy and the American people. Meanwhile, MG's DOJ, true to Amerika's two-tier "justice" system, seems only to be showing interest in going after the insurrectionist low-hanging fruit of the delusional MAGA people.

She was an unarmed civilian who was shot to death

Unarmed and part of an angry mob, even unarmed a mob can tear apart a human and is a s dangerous. she was a traitor to her country, think twice before you want to go as far as being part of an insurrection in a democracy.

No tears and no regret for fallen traitors, she got what she deserved.

She was a 14 year Air Force veteran and as such she took the oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic (like Trump). She chose to follow an usurper fascist who is against everything us veterans ever served, worked and strove for. She chose the path of terrorism, fascism and treason. She knew damn well what she was doing. That traitor bitch got what she deserved and asked for. I have no sympathies for fascists or traitors.

Biden says democracy survived Capitol riot because of police

What dumb thing to say - democracy was not threatened by an unarmed crowd of rowdies. It was the police that were armed and killing people.

0 ( +15 / -15 )

@zichi: She was at the front of a mob trying to break down a single door separating them from the representatives.

The problem with this argument is that the veteran was not directly threatening the life of anyone. There wasn’t a single politician in sight and she was not even armed. Trespassing, a misdemeanor, isn’t a good excuse for shooting someone who is unarmed.

4 ( +18 / -14 )

Biden’s efforts to pass a police overhaul bill to tighten practices after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis collapsed, with congressional negotiators announcing in September that talks had ended without an agreement.

Floyd was a convicted felon, pushing fake twenty dollar bills, high as a kite on fentanyl and sitting behind the wheel of a car with the keys in the ignition. Don’t praise thugs.

3 ( +14 / -11 )

The problem with your argument is that is is completely wrong.

Try breaking into someone’s house in the US and complaining if someone shoots you.

Ashli Babbit suffered much worse.

She was an unarmed civilian who was shot to death.

In fact all the protesters were unarmed. That’s some “insurrection”.

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

The none of the insurrectionists had their due process rights violated.

msm as well msn and a few other media outlets state otherwise as well as the defendants lawyers and pending lawsuits.

A judge recently found that one of the insurrectionists had their civil rights violated, but it’s absolutely unrelated to due process rights.

That is one judge in “one” case.

https://spectator.org/january-6-capitol-rioters-solitary-confinement/

But the defendants from the riot are not being held in pretrial detention for any of those crimes. They are being held on charges that include “knowingly entering or remaining in restricted grounds without authority to conspiracy, assault and obstruction of an official proceeding.” While there was no justification for unlawfully entering the Capitol, that does not warrant being treated as a sexual predator or as an individual who engaged in assaultive behavior.

“According to PJ Media,

No one arrested for being in the Capitol on January 6th has been charged with insurrection, sedition or anything even close to toppling the government. Though there may have been as many as 300,000+ Trump supporters in Washington, D.C., on January 6, no firearms were recovered at the Capitol. No one has even been charged with arson, because there were no fires lit, yet some of the non-violent protesters are still in jail.”

The DOJ is in so much trouble, can’t blab or excuse their way out of this one.

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

He was unlawfully killed and the officer was found guilty. The other three are facing a trial too.

and 20+ dead from ensuing riots and many livelihoods lost from destroyed businesses. Will we ever get any sympathy or even a simple RIP from you for those people that had nothing to do with George Floyd? Nope but it got you the president you wanted in a country that you don't even live in or come from.

It is simply amazing that anyone who claims to have any love or patriotism for the US can make excuses for the insurrection that Trump stoked.

Not a single person on this thread made any excuse for what happened, nor is anyone just accepting only the selected and cherry picked facts that this administration wants to push

Sir, there is only one side to evil and it is evil.

Let’s not try to find good people amongst the insurrectionists because by their very act, they are not good people!!!

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Simply, if the shoe was on the other foot - ie Democrat supporters stormed the Capitol and sought to overturn a constitutionally democratic process through violent actions - then this would not be viewed as an old fashioned basic insurrection.

No it would be viewed by the Neo-Cons as An act of War and the wails, shrills and outcries for death sentences would be heard daily, propped up by the Faux News bleats of the Con-media.

Still those unwilling to recognize the acts of the day as totally against any standard of civil democratic action - are fueling the notion that any future uprisings of similar consequence are justified - regardless of political bent.

That then will confirm that the US is on a one way downhill track.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Every American should be outraged and embarrassed for what happened January 6th. America for year's has been fighting for democracy around the world. And then you have an insane orange hair nutcase rile up a bunch of really low IQ imbeciles attack their own democracy.

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

That’s like saying there were fine people on both sides at Charlottesville , or both sides of the holocaust story!!!

There we’re no fine people amongst the insurrectionists.

Please accept that!!!

1 ( +9 / -8 )

It is simply amazing that anyone who claims to have any love or patriotism for the US can make excuses for the insurrection that Trump stoked.

Yes, the usual whataboutery from the usual suspects is on show. Tediously predictable.

Trump clearly pandered to the ‘poorly educated’ to use his own words, and these low grade morons actually swallowed his stolen election conspiracy theory. They were egged on by frauds preying upon the slow and the mentally unstable.

An awful day for a fine country. A pity the dregs of that great country hit the headlines.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Floyd was a convicted felon, pushing fake twenty dollar bills, high as a kite on fentanyl and sitting behind the wheel of a car with the keys in the ignition. Don’t praise thugs.

This 'high on fentanyl' (or PCP) biz is the oldest lie and excuse for these corrupt cops to murder blacks. And make no mistake, George Floyd was murdered. Even if he did do anything wrong, that's not how you arrest a suspect. That was outright MURDER and it's simple as that.

And the real thugs are those racist militia trashbrats that infiltrated the protests. They wore sweatshirts and carried gats on them, and they were trying to start a race war. And who was behind that??? Who instigated the 'freedumb' rallies? The Antichrist Traitor Caligula, that's who.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Ashli Babbit suffered much worse.

She was an unarmed civilian who was shot to death.

she entered the capitol illegally, seconds before her death a guy beside her shouted gun, but she still crawled through the broken window.

Ashli Babbit got herself killed, and the courts agreed the police office acted lawfully to protect the lawmakers in the capitol.

there fixed that for you

3 ( +8 / -5 )

This 'high on fentanyl' (or PCP) biz is the oldest lie and excuse for these corrupt cops to murder blacks.

All cops murder blacks? Are you serious? What about blacks that have murdered cops?

And make no mistake, George Floyd was murdered. Even if he did do anything wrong, that's not how you arrest a suspect. That was outright MURDER and it's simple as that.

So we have to label all cops as racists? So what about black cops that shoot black criminals, what are they?

And the real thugs are those racist militia trashbrats that infiltrated the protests.

A few, not the majority of them, see this is exactly why the media is not trusted and it is because of statements like that. The left tries to pigeonhole anyone that was not for the current President. Just keep it to the individuals that were involved.

They wore sweatshirts and carried gats on them, and they were trying to start a race war.

There is absolutely zero proof of that.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Not a single person on this thread made any excuse for what happened, nor is anyone just accepting only the selected and cherry picked facts that this administration wants to push.

what that Trump supporter started an insurrection from Trumps big lie, 9 month later dozens of court cases many recounts and forensic audits and not once has the maga crowd shown any evidence that will convince any judge the election was fraudulent. No opinions do not supersede the facts, but the facts do supersede your opinions

3 ( +8 / -5 )

That’s like saying there were fine people on both sides at Charlottesville ,

.....or during the Summer riots of 2020

All evil in its purest form right or left is bad and should never be tolerated.
