Highly unlikely that offering $2 an hour more to work at a fast food restaurant will result in droves of job applicants in that industry.

Republicans believe the key is to minimize taxes and other barriers for employers so that lower operating costs lead them to invest and hire.

Lower taxes don't create jobs. Demand does. Give the money to the middle class and have them create demand.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

The Biden administration recently gave a bit of simple advice to businesses that are unable to find workers: Offer them more money

well then why don't you put it into law Joe??

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Give the money to the middle class and have them create demand.

With the rising cost of living, out of control taxes and gas prices and small businesses getting hammered by the lockdowns and the virus. Only 40% of restaurants in NYC reopened and still people are leaving, it could take another 8-10 years for NYC to get back to it’s pre-Coronavirus levels, let’s not forget the city has went from one of the safest to one of the dangerous since pre-Giuliani era. Private businesses are relocating, people are leaving, Biden already had an abysmal jobs month last month and with the war on fossil fuel as well, expect more unemployment and more stagnation and the Dems spending money that we don’t have is going to definitely decrease and devalue the dollar over time. We are creating more debt, spending and taking less in and this is just the beginning.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

the Dems spending money that we don’t have

I think we can put an exact date and time on your reconversion to fiscal conservatism.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Biden inherited his fiscal problems from Trump who gave the rich big tax breaks.

So now the rich are leaving, taking their money, closing their businesses especially in low income areas where violence is off the charts and bigger cities where Biden has now started punishing small businesses and the lockdowns didn’t help either.

Unemployment last year reached historical heights with more than 50 million lining up at food banks.

And yet, oil and gas prices are through the roof, we went from energy independent to now once again energy dependent on the ME, food prices going, the Dems are not trying to put a time limit on unemployment, so why would people even want to go back to work when they can spoon off the government?

30 million without healthcare. Trump increased the National Debt by more than $7 trillion with little to show for it.*

and Biden is now doubling that with stimulus after stimulus now its $2.3 trillion and the Dems want more and more and they think the nation has an inexhaustible supply of money surpassing anything that Trump or his predecessor created and we aren’t even finished with the year.

According to the estimates from the United States Census Bureau, 126,355 residents left New York between July 2019 and July 2020.

U.S. Census: An estimated 601,611 people moved to Florida in 2019

Inflation, Joe.,

when you give people more money, the value of that money decreases.

prices go up to cover the additional costs the business has.

it’s just a plot to get workers into a higher tax bracket.

GOP warns of inflation

If the GOP cared about inflation, it wouldn't tank the economy everytime they're in power.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

If the GOP cared about inflation, it wouldn't tank the economy everytime they're in power.

was the best economy ever pre-Covid so policy wasn’t the issue.

the Biden inflation is killing the economy. How does he expect to double the capital gains tax if there are no gains? This inflation destroying the NASDAQ its 5 week performance in 9 years.

how can small cap companies grow and hire more new people (and pay more taxes) when their stock is 75% down under Biden?

but yeah let’s make McDonald’s fry cook a livable wage.....

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

But not from New York. There are many reasons to move to Florida.

Politics and freedom are one.

The report finds that Florida is the top destination for people from states like North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Maine, Tennessee, Connecticut, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Indiana.

The study shows that the Florida cities that have the highest net population gain - that is, people moving in versus those leaving - are Sarasota and Jacksonville. Both rank in the top four nationally.

Biden is not responsible for the price of gas

Yes, he is, not only is he responsible as the President, but he was the one that is trying to tell millions of Americans during a pandemic where money is already scarce and jobs are closing at an alarming rate, many not coming back and the dependence once again on ME oil and as you say, supply and demand and the ME will make sure we pay for that demand that we could get less in our own backyard without depending on the ME and this stupid dream that people and farmers are going to fork out 75K for an electric truck and some that have to drive over 100 miles a day.

So when fry cooks make $15 per hour what do you do with people already making $15? They go to $20? Then 20 goes to $25? On and on.

everyone still has same quality of life after inflation and tax brackets increases.

The government takes all the new tax money revenue and gives it to people who don’t work at all in exchange for political party votes.

it is actually the site refusing to fix their tech glitch for over 2 years but sure.

Sure, blame a tech glitch and not the fact that you just made mistake.

any comments on inflation?

Yup: if the GOP cared about inflation, it wouldn't tank the economy everytime they're in power.

https://towardsdatascience.com/which-party-adds-more-to-deficits-a6422c6b00d7

The end-result is simple: Republican presidents add more to deficits than their Democratic counterparts.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yet the economy under Trump policies didn’t tank at all. Until a Chinese lab released corona on the world. Then everything everywhere tanked.

this inflation however is coming directly from Biden policies.

so that’s why your first instinct was to post about a years old known posting glitch on this site to “own” me. Lame.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

How will deficit get under control when Biden just proposed to spend more than 6 trillion dollars in less than 100 days?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Yet the economy under Trump policies didn’t tank at all.

Sure thing, and if you stop counting around may 2017, Trump is a great president that has never been impeached either.

this inflation however is coming directly from Biden policies.

Nope, it doesn't.

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/why-is-inflation-rising-right-now/

Anyway, let's judge Biden economic policies once his term ends. Doing so otherwise would be pointless.

so that’s why your first instinct was to post about a years old known posting glitch on this site to “own” me. Lame.

You just made a mistake. No need to be salty about it.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It’s entirely not pointless.

we can force him to change these socialist/leftist policies before he destroys our economy and companies forever. It’s already not working, why do we have to continue to suffer?

Anyway, let's judge Biden economic policies once his term ends. Doing so otherwise would be pointless.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

The issue with the economy will be meeting demand when supplies, especially with things like semiconductors and steel, are in limited supply. Then you have an overheated housing market.

If prices rise, which they most likely will, it will be due to lack if supply, not $300 in temporary extra unemployment benefits for the unemployed or stimulus money.

If there is a rise, the GOP will lie to their base about the cause and blame Biden, and the base will believe it. We can see the talking points coming out in the media from the GOP and Bass and Black are already repeating them. Look for that to continue, and when we correct them they won't believe it because it's all just liberal witchcraft.

Gas prices? Presidents don't control that. Waste of time.

The really, really good news is the rise in wages. They've been flat for the working class since the 80s, across all administrations, Democrat or Republican.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

We need to raise the minimum wage in order to keep up with the economy and the times. We're not in 1982 anymore.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Once again, history repeats itself....

Bush 1 had a mediocre economy....Clinton elected and economy blasted off to the best in history (not Trump)...and the first balanced budget in 60 years...

Bush 2 and his Wall St BFFs crashed the economy with their junk debt schemes....Obama turns it around and has positive GDP growth for 8 years....

Trump sinks the economy to Depression-era levels, his GDP numbers never above a measly 3.2%. Recently released Commerce Dept estimates put Biden's 1st Qtr 2021 HDP at 6.4%!

https://www.bea.gov/news/2021/gross-domestic-product-first-quarter-2021-advance-estimate

As George Santayana said; "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"... Which means vote Repub in 2022/24 if you want a recession, high unemployment, and a sinking stock market...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wage increase means nothing if there is inflation, consumer price increase and upward movement in tax bracket due to those higher wages.

Plus wage increase doesn’t help unemployed people, obviously. So stop paying people more to stay home and get them back to work.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

A good share on the inflation is being caused by massive spending of the MIC. More than the next 10 countries combined.

"how do you explain the fall of oil imports from the ME as the lowest in decades?"

He can't.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

how do you explain the fall of oil imports from the ME as the lowest in decades? Presidents don't set the price of gas, oil companies and markets do that. Domestic oil production for 2021 will be the same as last year and a small increase by 2022.

You didn't read the article as usual

Gas prices have skyrocketed nearly 40 cents per gallon compared to last year. Even in the last month, prices have increased more than 30 cents per gallon, according to AAA.

Energy analyst Patricia Schouker recently said the spike should be partially attributed to energy markets rebounding following their crash last year, which was triggered by the pandemic.

“US oil and gas stocks, by far the worst performers of last year, are standing out as the best in 2021,” Schouker said. “A booming rally in oil markets has pushed crude prices to their highest levels since near the start of the coronavirus pandemic, powered by production curbs and recovering demand.

The eight-year initiative, dubbed the American Jobs Plan, comes on the heels of Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.

“The federal gas tax hasn’t been touched since 1993 so motorists really need to be on alert for rising gas prices this year,” De Haan noted on Monday.

He also stressed that “the Biden administration is not anywhere near as friendly with the oil and gas sector” as the Trump administration, noting that “motorists are going to be feeling the consequences of such a policy.”

He added that “it’s going to make things more expensive and that’s what motorists are going to have to face this year.”

This just helps Trump, the GOP, and the House, you go Joe! You continue to please helping the GOP.

Stop the exploitation of workers, tax the boss class to the hilt and long jail sentences if they persist in cheating employees.

we can force him to change these socialist/leftist policies before he destroys our economy and companies forever.

Another insurgency?

Companies can be run by the workers, co-operatives don't necessary mean the end. Just means the boss class will be out on their ear. No big loss.

If only he actually was socialist.

We need to raise the minimum wage in order to keep up with the economy and the times. We're not in 1982 anymore.

Black: So stop paying people more to stay home and get them back to work.

The GOP has no proof of that. It's just a talking point they made up because it sounds good.

And if it is true, which it isn't, God help us all. If collecting an extra $1,200 a month means full-time workers make more than not working then it points back to anemic wages.

And don't ever come to me and say wages should remain flat for the working class forever to protect against inflation.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Stop the exploitation of workers,

Don't tell me, tell Biden, he was the one that threw blue color workers under the bus. And his war on fossil fuel is not helping people that need their vehicles to go to work.

tax the boss class to the hilt and long jail sentences if they persist in cheating employees.

Ok, so then it's up to poor people to create jobs, looking at Venezuela that idea just hasn't worked out so well. Chavez made that same stupid promise.

Companies can be run by the workers, co-operatives don't necessary mean the end.

Tell Facebook, Twitter, and Google that!

If only he actually was socialist.

Well, he has Bernie, the Squad, and the rest of the Democrat Socialists. Again, keep at it Joe, we are begging you more, the GOP are just 5 seats away from a new era in 2022

A Bank of America Global Research report published in April estimated, nationwide, workers who earn less than $32,000 annually could make more money on unemployment than they could from work.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Blacklabel: A Bank of America Global Research report published in April estimated, nationwide, workers who earn less than $32,000 annually could make more money on unemployment than they could from work.

Most likely. We had a pandemic where people lost their jobs.

But those benefits will end soon. What that means for you is that if inflation continues to rise after the extra benefits stop you'll have to make up a new talking point.

If I were you, I'd start prepping for that now. I'll be sure to remind you that you blamed inflation on free Biden money long after that ended.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The GOP has no proof of that. It's just a talking point they made up because it sounds good.

Uh-huh, lol...

Makes sense to me.

Well that was a quick deflection change from “you have no proof” and “if it’s true but it isn’t”.

so ok end the payments, get everyone back to work and if inflation continues to rise I’m sure another Biden policy is causing it.

economic policy drives the economy. Presidents set economic policy based on their own priorities.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

progressives and liberals don’t seem to realize if people can make $32,000 staying home they won’t go back so work for less than 25% more.

so they stay home, take their money, invest in Bitcoin song doge and end up with $50,000 or more total by not working.

Biden needs job creation numbers. This is why he is trying to kill any small investments that can generate profit. Bitcoins, gold, meme stocks, small cap stocks. Anything poor people can afford to invest in. To make these people go back to work.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Blacklabel: Well that was a quick deflection change from “you have no proof” and “if it’s true but it isn’t”.

There is no proof. It was a talking point pushed by the Chamber of Commerce that the GOP latched onto. But the COC didn't back it up with data.

And my point is that even if you could back this up with data, which you can't, the bigger priority is low wages in America.

Pick your poison.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Black: Presidents set economic policy based on their own priorities.

Then you must worship Bill Clinton. Have it your way.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The priority is help and motivate people learn the skills they need to justify them to have high wages.

not keep increasing wages for fry cook at McDonalds or liberal arts degree holders who have no jobs associated with their field of “study”.

STEM. It what we need. And supports the wages people should have.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

This is all so easily solved, leave these blue states and the hassle and just move to Texas or Florida.

That's not asking the fox to watch itself guarding the chickens, give me a break, guy! Lol

Last year oil prices per less than $1 per barrel. The barrel was worth more at $40.

And Biden is still waging a war on fossil fuel. Look, I think it's good Biden keeps this up, I want him to lose the House, so I want him to make a life for these fossil fuel workers lives more difficult and then we can finally get back to restoring order and to become energy efficient one more time.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

You'll notice a trend here from the Repubs and Trump supporters...

They have a consistent pessimistic view of human nature....to them, those folks unemployed don't want to go back to work if they can subsist on limited government money - to them people are craven, lazy, and apathetic....

They see these people everyday - when they look into the mirror...or attend a Trump rally...

The extra benefits will end. Don't worry. Just prep to abandon your stimulus talking point and make up something else.

When Trump proposed $2,000 stimulus checks, not one Republican mentioned inflation. What happened? The GOP had a strategy meeting, saw that inflation could rise due to supply limitations, and decided to blame it on Biden's stimulus.

Someone probably said, "Won't our base see through that?".

Then everyone laughed.
