Why didn’t the cops do their jobs?

Reports are that as the cops stood by, parents were attempting to rescue their children-the cops began to detain and pepper spray the parents!

The police have a job to protect people; not wait for children to be executed!

a crowd of about 100 people began chanting “do something.” Biden replied, “We will,”

Don’t believe anyone who says most Americans don’t want this.

When you hear someone say “You can’t take my guns, I’m a responsible gun owner, I keep my guns locked up, don’t blame me because someone else abused guns” just replace the word ‘gun’ with ‘slave’ and it’s clear what to do.

14 ( +26 / -12 )

The GOP will block any chance of change.

14 ( +21 / -7 )

Faced with chants of “do something” as he departed a church service to meet privately with the families, Biden responded: “We will.”

Not a Biden fan.

But one question to the gun covetous, coming from someone who went to NRA firearms training and shooting ranges before I hit 10 years old in a military family.

If Biden proposes gun licensing measures at least equivalent to getting a car license in Japan, with written and practical testing, inspections etc., would you support it?

It probably would have prevented this tragedy as well as some others. And inner city crime rates from gang violence and an illogical drug policy do not factor into this.

If Biden does propose such measures, it would take a lot of political capital and probably still could not pass, even at this moment.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Americans think talking about something is doing something.

There will be no change, except for maybe money to study something or other, or a Department of Change Department.

Americans can’t even handle change to the metric system, what makes anyone think they can change a society with more guns than people?

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Hmmmmm...

Why doesn't this happen in Switzerland? Or Austria? Or the Czech Republic? Nations all known for their permissive gun laws?

9 ( +15 / -6 )

Well, he will sure do something, but without deep cultural change it is not likely it will end up being something useful.

It surprises me nobody else is talking about this. I’ll go even further and say this goes far beyond the GOP and mental illness ( because political change will come, sooner or later ). This is American culture we’re talking about. Americans sure love their guns but do you know what else they love : violence. Take away the guns, they’ll still find a way.

But yes, we’re hoping we can at least reduce the number of mass shootings.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

he pledges 'we will

...shrug our shoulders and wait for the next one.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

I've said it before: a huge number of Americans - (about 40%) simply don't love their kids like the rest of us do. And they won't allow any changes to the status quo where anyone over 18 can get a gun.

Sadly, statistics tell us there will be another mass shooting of innocent people over there very, very soon.

Anyone would be certifiably mad to visit the US. Period. Such a dangerous place.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Well, he will sure do something, but without deep cultural change it is not likely it will end up being something useful.

American love their guns more than the safety of their children, and powerful people use that love to remain powerful no matter the number of victims and the image the country now has internationally. Unless both of these things change the same situation will continue without change.

U.S. President Joe Biden sought Sunday to comfort a city grieving the killings of 19 elementary school pupils and two teachers at the hands of a lone gunman. Faced with chants of “do something” as he departed a church service to meet privately with the families, Biden responded: “We will.”

Good. Job #1 - re-institute the assault weapons ban;

*The Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act or Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) was a subsection of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, a United States federal law which included a prohibition on the manufacture for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms that were defined as assault weapons as well as certain ammunition magazines that were defined as large capacity. The 10-year ban was passed by the U.S. Congress on August 25, 1994 and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 13, 1994.*

This ban was supported by numerous Repubs to include President Reagan...

I carried an M16 and M4 during my 27 year military career - I used it in Iraq. It's very good at what was designed for - kill and incapacitate the enemy. You don't get "wounded" when you hit by an M16 round, you go down. Because of the muzzle velocity of the round, if you get hit in the shoulder, your arm comes off. Same for your leg. Now imagine what that AR15 did to those small bodies in Uvalde.

No one needs these weapons except weaklings trying to compensate for their physical insecurity or those who intend to use them against their own government, i.e., terrorists...

That they are so beloved by the far right just shows they clearly fall into these two categories...

Do NRA/Trump/Abbot/FOX people have a problem with people who are 18 having semi auto rifles? The kind that were used in these two recent school shootings? They are adults, right? And 2A says ".....shall not be infringed", right?

With gun ownership comes responsibility and with that comes maturity and adulthood. Real adults do not go around carrying an assault weapon being a threat to others. Real adults do not join racist/xenophobic/terrorist/insurrectionist/hate groups ans cause problems for others. Most that do are not mature or manly enough to join what was referred to in Amend 2 as a 'citizen militia'. That became the US Army and militia scum using that as an excuse have no maturity or manhood at all. None! There is nothing whatsoever wrong with private gun ownership but most Americans do not have the maturity to handle the responsibility that comes with it.

And real adults do not listen and fall for the hysterical lies of a shrieking loudmouth panic-inducing greedy Robiespeare either. Wayne LaPierre thru his LIES and greed is a terror-mongering Enemy of the Public. A scourge on America.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I can’t understand why Government around the world have not place a No Go Zone advisory of the USA. Over 200 mass killing with Semi auto so far this year. Like Afganistan would be a safer place to travel or visit then the USA.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

If the US has any laws well regulating types of drugs sold over the counter, laws that people respect, then why not for types of guns and ammo too?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

It’s rather funny to watch the MSM open their anti-gun playbook when an insane human snaps, but the daily shootings over a pair of tennis shoes goes unreported.

Nothing funny about it.

Daily shootings happen hundreds of times in the US, daily. Local news cover them, National and International news can’t. You’re surprised someone killing 19 children is causing global outrage?

Tennis shoes? What kind of gang bangers are you imagining?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The gun owners I know would sacrifice a hundred schools to keep them. Literally. They feel naked without them and they are driven by their own fear.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Painkiller. Japan have a learn to swim program in their schools to help with children from drowning. The USA have a how to hide from nutter cowards with semi auto,s program. To help children from dying from get shot dead by USA citizens.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Assault weapons are not sold in the US.

That is a completely incorrect statement.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

VP Harris calls for a ban on assault rifles. I agree with her as it is more reasonable and viable. Highly lethal arms are unnecessary for ordinary citizens on the street to practice self-defense. Fatality rate can down amid hostile situations. A targeted ban doesn't infringe on the Second Amendment. The NRA should make a compromise on it.

Meanwhile, despite efforts, full disarmament in American society is impossible in a short period of time. I assume it would take half a century.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Tennis shoes? What kind of gang bangers are you imagining?

this kind-

"Teenager in critical condition after being shot over the shoes he was wearing, police say"

and this one

"Police: Deadly Charleston shooting sparked by argument over stolen tennis shoes"

and this one

"Man charged with murdering star athlete ‘simply for the taking of a pair of gym shoes’

and this one

"Mississippi teen accused of killing 17-year-old over pair of Jordan sneakers"

I could Google people killed over Pokémon cards. Your point?

2 ( +8 / -6 )

This is so much like a broken record.

Nothing will change until we open our eyes. No! Nothing will change until Republicans open their eyes.

Without their cooperation and help the laws will not be changed and the mass shootings will continue.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

You know constitutions are not a unique US thing, right? Almost every other country has one.

Just bleating about the inviolable 2nd amendment is the pinnacle of irony.

You do know what ‘amendment’ means, right?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I have never seen a First Nation native hunting polar with a semi auto. About the only native that actually hunt daily for their food. True hunters need one shot no more no less. Real hunters use bolt action rifles and prepare their own ammo. If it not a single shot bolt action, It a gun design to kill many enemies in the shortest possible time. That is not a gun design for hunting game.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Careful, you’re in dangerous territory of ruining your own narrative. It’s a sad sad story, but the kid was messed up by his drug addicted mother and no show father and no good mental health care to be guided to. The problem here is the above, not guns.

Again and again the same nonsensical logic that somehow single parent families, drug abuse, minorities and mental illness are to blame whilst they exist in EVERY country in the world. And EVERY country in the world except the US doesn’t have mass shootings at anywhere near the same level.

But sure, it’s not guns. Go ahead, tell me some more about cars and knives.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Lincolnman, the problem is that there ARE more guns than ever before in the US. And inconveniently for anti-gun folks, the murder/crime rate is far lower than it used to be. Explain THAT before trying to take the property of law abiding citizens.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

With gun ownership comes responsibility

Can we be more specific? Doe this mean ban semi autos? Or have a very strict regulation process for them? They do this for fully auto machine guns where you need like a registration stamp and so far no mass shootings involving fully auto machine guns. What's wrong with strict regulation where the government knows who has what gun? Works for Japan and Switzerland.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If Biden proposes gun licensing measures at least equivalent to getting a car license in Japan, with written and practical testing, inspections etc., would you support it?

The answer to that is yes! Regulate, make it difficult to get a gun and not just over the counter at Walmart.

it would take a lot of political capital and probably still could not pass, even at this moment.

Aaaaand yes to that too. People will see it as political; just the left trying to destroy the right or authoritarian governments trying to control us, mah freedom, blahhhhh.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

The argument that only criminals will have guns if gun sales are banned or severely restricted just doesn’t hold water.

Blackmarket guns now are already more expensive than buying one in Walmart. When the Walmart option goes the price of illegal guns will become prohibitively expensive.

3% of Americans own half of all the guns. It’s those people that are the problem.

1 ( +9 / -8 )

“He won’t”.

It's probably true that whatever Biden tries to do he will be stopped by the 4th branch of government and their ilk, ie. by people who are unwilling to have any changes made or even discussed that might risk having their gun owning and shooting hobby taken away from them, and by the dozens of weapons manufacturers raking in big money selling guns and ammo to just about anyone who wants them, the businesses will continue to pay big money to politicians who will ensure guns and ammo remain freely available to just about anyone including those with mental issues and even those on terrorist watch lists, as well as thugs from just about every neighborhood from sea to shiny sea. The USA is gun sick, but the sickest are the gun extremists who will continue to try to block attempts to have an open discussion on gun issues. Th 4th branch supporters want an autocrat to rule and not have other branches of government interfere with his dictates. They favor leaders like Putin and oppose many democratic principles, for example free elections and respecting their results.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

I am afraid the Democrats are right on this one. NRA and gun laws need strict regulations.

It's sad that violence has reached this in our society.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

I could Google people killed over Pokémon cards. Your point?

My point? that you should have googled people killed over tennis shoes instead of Pokemon.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Mental illness + lockdowns + social media = toxic brew for teens.

Other Western nations had lockdowns just like the US did.

Other Western nations have huge mental health issues.

Other Western nations have as much social media use as the US.

Only the US has regular gun massacres like clockwork.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The Democrats can change the law unilaterally

No they can't. Filibuster.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Daily shootings happen hundreds of times in the US, daily. Local news cover them, National and International news can’t. You’re surprised someone killing 19 children is causing global outrage?

Careful, you’re in dangerous territory of ruining your own narrative. It’s a sad sad story, but the kid was messed up by his drug addicted mother and no show father and no good mental health care to be guided to. The problem here is the above, not guns. If folks were really concerned about guns instead following their Dem / Rep games; then YES, the urban killing fields would be the narrative cuz that’s where 90% of the murders occur.

Tennis shoes? What kind of gang bangers are you imagining?

Scour the news. It happens a lot and for many many years. some gang banger kills a young teen for his new Jordan Nike’s.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I want to see these hidden holsters being proposed so elementary school kids can pack a pistol under their desks to thwart 18-year olds with AR-15’s.

I wish it was a joke, but it’s not.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Gun elimination is the answer, but Americans, including liberals, love them. They believe it is part of their heritage and right. The stupidity will never cease. A violent society based on the military, war and guns being glorified by people who say they want to do something about multi round mass killings, but politicians fear voter backlash so they never, ever say guns should be eliminated. In essence, they prioritize votes over kids being killed by bullets in the USA. That's a fact.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Guns are now the leading cause of death for children in the US....

https://www.axios.com/2022/05/26/gun-deaths-children-america

Republican solutions? Give everyone more guns....

The same as;

If car accidents were the leading cause of death, lower the drivers license age, mandate no drivers training, and raffle off cars...

If lung cancer was the leading cause of death, bring back TV advertising, prohibit suing Big Tobacco, and put cigarette machines in elementary schools...

Welcome to MAGA-world....

nishikat,

Can we be more specific? Doe this mean ban semi autos? Or have a very strict regulation process for them? They do this for fully auto machine guns where you need like a registration stamp and so far no mass shootings involving fully auto machine guns. What's wrong with strict regulation where the government knows who has what gun? Works for Japan and Switzerland

Interesting. That sound very pro- gun control. Hmm.

Also nishikat:

Dec 1, 2021.

Then that's against 2A. Kids (yes under 18) have a right to protect themselves too. Can't they carry a semi auto Glock like adults? They should conceal carry in HS and I'm sure the NRA supports this. With this school shooting only a good kid with a gun could have defeated this person.

Dec 1, 2021.

It says nothing about age in 2A. In fact some kids under 18 fought in the American revolution. It is their right just like any kid is allowed to write his or her own blog (freedom of speech)

Dec 5, 2021.

Guns (the non hunting type in many cases) are just adult toys. 2A says shall not be infringed and this means kids too. It should mean that kids under 18 should be allowed open carry (I mean hand gun semi auto Glocks) as well as CCP. What if some of those kids had been CCP, it could have neutralized the shooter

Dec 5, 2021.

Glock or other deadly weapons. 2A is 2A. Yes for kids to protect kids just like adults

Dec 7, 2021.

And Tucker should cover that kids should be able to carry just like adults with changes to the laws. Kids should be able to defend themselves with CCP and open carry because kids are people too.

Feb 3, 2022

By the way, should teenagers be able to CCP and open carry like adults? This way they can defend themselves just like adults can. It says "....shall not be infringed...."

Feb 3, 2022.

You don't think teens have a right to protect themselves just like adults? The 2nd amendment says "....shall not be infringed..." Teens are people too. Also, teens fought in the American revolution so white Americans could own slaves.

Don't worry nishikat. This will be removed and the comment section shut down very soon.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

During the Bolshevik revolution between 50,000 and 200,000 people were “executed”.

Just prior to and early on in the revolution “the leaders of the uprising knew only too well what the masses were capable of, especially if armed up to the teeth, and moved to monopolize gun ownership. If you were caught with a firearm, you could face at least 10 years imprisonment. Execution was most likely.

https://www.rbth.com/history/326865-guns-rifles-russia-revolution/amp

THIS is the purpose of the second amendment. It is there as a means of protection against a tyrannical government. It is not for recreational or hunting purposes. I also believe that this is the underlying motivation to get rid of the second amendment. It is as plain as day that government is becoming more tyrannical.

Those who are falling for the playing heart strings are being played.

If those in power (for those who support them) really cared about those children, they would be focusing on what’s causing these people to go on these rampages in the first case. Yet that is 100% being ignored as if it’s not even a factor and only focusing on gun control. In fact, if that idea is even brought up, it is ridiculed (see down votes below). The level of hypocrisy is staggering.

I would speculate, in most cases, the underlying causes for these rampages would be attributed to many of the previously instituted changes by those in power in the first place. Create the problem and offer a solution…

I am all for some sort of gun control. For example, a legal age of 18 to purchase one, background checks (it must be proven that the purchaser has no violent criminal history nor has spent time in a mental institution or has some documented history of mental instability. Perhaps even needing to complete a gun safety course and obtain a license like those who are legal to drive a car. This is not unreasonable.

That would make the majority of people eligible and I’m fine with that.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Biden can't do anything because the legislative branch of government won't approve a law for him to sign.

If American culture is more violent than other countries,

I disagree.

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/most-violent-countries. US didn’t even make the top ten ranking.

that sounds like a good reason to regulate firearms*

How?

@Virusrex

American love their guns more than the safety of their children

This statement is not accurate and is extremely inappropriate

You do not know all the people living in the USA !

Not everyone in the USA is American.

Parents own guns to protect their children .

Try telling a USA citizen they don't care about the safety of their children and see what happens !

Having personally lived in the USA for 3 decades i understand why so many people own guns.

Unfortunately it is necessary to own a gun and be proficient in using one if your in the USA.

If you cant understand this simple fact then try educating yourself before making innapropriate insulting assumptions.

I choose to live in Japan where it's not necessary to own a gun .

The Justice Department announced Sunday that it will review the law enforcement response and make its findings public.

The DOJ is not going to find or fix anything that the Texas DPS or Rangers won't find out, and what's more the Texas DPS and Rangers can probably do a much better job of investigating and fixing any issues than the DOJ.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Starpunk, your rant has many factual errors.

Assault weapons are not sold in the US. 99% of Americans do NOT join the groups you mentioned. More than 99% of gun owners ARE responsible and mature. The statistics bear that out. More than 80 million Americans own guns. What percentage are used in crimes?

Not to mention that the crime rate has gone DOWN over the past several decades, even as gun ownership has risen. How do you explain that? Murder rate now is 50% less than in the 1980s.

I understand your frustration, but don't let it cloud your reason. That is the path to poorly conceived solutions that will solve nothing in the long run.

Welcome to "Wild West" MAGA America....

Where if you take your dog for a walk, you may lose your life....

Officers responded to a shooting call around 9:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 4900 block of East Harry. They found Hardy, who had been shot, outside the complex. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries, Cruz said. Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument that started between Gale and Hardy while Gale was walking his dog. Police allege Gale fired a gun several times at Hardy and a 39-year-old woman, Cruz said. Hardy was struck several times.

know the corporate narrative is only gun control, not healthcare,

The "corporate narrative" opposes the free, public supported health care that many other countries have;countries which also have stricter gun control measures.

Quite illogical.

The question of inner city gun violence usually black market weapons would be better addressed by measures to improve the vast disparities in economic opportunities there.

A gun buyback could be a start.

The Supreme Court must move the Overton window to the left by, say, allowing the ban of weapon clips; Washington needs to create laws as strict as politics demand - but really, the ball falls in the states' lap. Gun deaths in southern states by far outpace those in northern (that per capita in much-maligned Michigan is about the same as in Texas; 12 of the worst 20 are all southern, with the rest rounded out by places like Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and other wanabe southern states). People tend to respect state laws more than federal.

Other steps include increasing reporting requirements for interstate gun trafficking and attaching high penalties. These can be done, though getting Trump's Supreme Court on board will be a challenge.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Our community needs to focus on healing right now

Wrong answer ! !

Your community needs to focus on preparadness strategies and contingency to ensure the protection of your community first and foremost.

Get your priorities in order and don't expect Biden to be able to do anything about it.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

You can't pass laws to stop psychos from killing people, unless you literally go full dystopia and implant chips into everyone's brains to stop pre-crime.

States like Illinois have much stricter gun laws but there are daily shootings in Chicago that nobody really gets up in arms about, not even the illustrious mayor.

It'll be interesting to see what Biden can do, probably not much.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

I also believe we should be securing schools better. You have to start at both ends.

To provide armed security at just K-12 schools in the US would require at least one million newly armed and trained guards. They’re going to be heroes and risk their lives working for how much $ an hour?

Will there also be security at other places kids congregate? Parks, pools, beaches, churches?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Pointless visit:

“POTUS didn’t speak to anyone in the community at the Elementary, or at the Church visit. The Police set up tape last minute so the President could meet with residents outside, but as he walked to the crowd, chants broke out and some “boo’s” and decided against it.”

There's enough dummies in America to fall for the notion of giving all kids guns so they can kill the 'invading Commie/pinko/Muslim/gay/nonwhite/immigrant/boogeyman' that's out to getcha!

What? Huh?

Then these children can be formed into rifle-toting brigades, then they can form a Youth Corps and swear allegiance to a scummy dictator as was done in Nazi Germany, Falangist Spain, Metakis' Greece, fascist Japan, Communist nations like Mao's China, Gadhafi's Libya, and Myanmar today. All we need now is a 'Great Leader' to guide them. That's how dictatorships work. That's their mentality.

You’re bloviating once again, what on earth are you talking about?

trump would love this. After all, he had those cheerleaders at his rallies. Sickening.

How did Trump did into the conversation? You are always going in all directions there.

Yes, those are called "police". we should fund them properly, right?

Depends. Are they going to stand around drinking water?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Nitpicking about what ‘assault weapon’ means or talking about tennis shoes, swimming pools etc just makes you look stupid. You need to try harder than that.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Should 18-year olds be able to possess semi autos?

According to you, yes.

"By the way, should teenagers be able to CCP and open carry like adults? This way they can defend themselves just like adults can. It says "....shall not be infringed....""

"You don't think teens have a right to protect themselves just like adults? The 2nd amendment says "....shall not be infringed..." Teens are people too. Also, teens fought in the American revolution so white Americans could own slaves."

You say even under 18s should be able to conceal carry semi automatic handguns:

"Then that's against 2A. Kids (yes under 18) have a right to protect themselves too. Can't they carry a semi auto Glock like adults? They should conceal carry in HS and I'm sure the NRA supports this. With this school shooting only a good kid with a gun could have defeated this person."

So which is it, troll? pro or anti gun control?

What's wrong with strict regulation where the government knows who has what gun? Works for Japan and Switzerland.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You say even under 18s should be able to conceal carry semi automatic handguns:

OK, I was going to low with age. Let's talk about 18-year olds for now. Should they be able to carry ARs? It says in 2A "......shall now be infringed"

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Should people age of 18 be able to carry semi auto rifles? Because it saved Kyle Rittenhouse's life

Oh, and gently avoid use of the word ‘ban’. It’s too emotive too loaded, sort of micro-aggressive for both sides of the divide.

randy are you a your everyday American? Because I know can deal with the everyday Japanese citizen because when he losses it he not go to reach for a semi auto in his pocket and start shooting you, like your everyday USA citizen coward would most definitely do. To provide armed security at just K-12 schools in the US would require at least one million newly armed and trained guards. They’re going to be heroes and risk their lives working for how much $ an hour?

I answered this yesterday. we can pay them $54,000 per year.

or we can use the 220 billion for student debt forgiveness and pay them $200,000 per year. that would be 8 of them per school. if we need to save money we could drop that down to 5 per school.

Bob FosseToday  09:52 am JST

I could Google people killed over Pokémon cards. Your point?

His point was responding to your comment; you forget what you wrote already?

Faced with chants of “do something” as he departed a church service to meet privately with the families, Biden responded: “We will.”

Anyone who understands the US political system knows there is hardly anything the president can do; and whoever "we" is, well, let's see.

American love their guns more than the safety of their children, and powerful people use that love to remain powerful no matter the number of victims and the image the country now has internationally.

Lack of knowledge about the US showing through in this un-researched opinion. First, less than 1/3 of Americans own firearms. Second, there are more laws protective of children in the US than in any other country in the world. Third, the majority of gun holders are not "powerful people".

Anyway, more children die of drowning each year in Japan than do in mass shootings in the US.

Sounds like a problem that is ignored to the detriment of the children in Japan. Anyone care?

Nothing will change until Republicans open their eyes.

The Democrats can change the law unilaterally- just like they do with other things.

why won’t they for this? They don’t care enough and are afraid about elections. Because they know not enough people want this for them to “win”.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

This is so much like a broken record.

I agree.

Nothing will change until we open our eyes. No! Nothing will change until Republicans open their eyes.

….and Democrats.

Without their cooperation and help the laws will not be changed and the mass shootings will continue.

That goes both ways.

To a person with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. To a person who hates guns, every problem looks like it can be solved by banning guns.

First, there is no way to define "assault rifle" enough to distinguish it from a standard semi-auto rifle that is the norm for hunters and gun enthusiasts. Fully automatic weapons are already more or less banned. I hear the phrase "military style" bandied about, but again that has no meaning.

Second, the issue is actually the person doing the shooting. Multiple failures on multiple fronts for the vast majority of mass shooters. From Columbine to Uvalde, in most cases there were signs and hints that were ignored, brushed off, and otherwise not taken as seriously as they should have. Too inconvenient, troublesome, schools/parents worried about their 'image', you name it.

Oh, and as for the police? They are under no legal obligation to protect the public. Doesn't matter what trite phrase is written on the doors of their cars. This is established law up to the Supreme Court level.

Also on the subject of police, there are too many departments with too many jurisdictions and too little training. I mean, the SCHOOL DISTRICT has a police force? Then the town, then a sherrif's office, then state troopers, the Border Guards.... generally poor and inadequate training at many of these levels. It is ridiculous.

*With gun ownership comes responsibility and with that comes maturity and adulthood. Real adults do not go around carrying an assault weapon being a threat to others. Real adults do notjoin racist/xenophobic/terrorist/insurrectionist/hate groups ans cause problems for others.*

Yes, that’s obvious I would hope.

*There is nothing whatsoever wrong with private gun ownership but most Americans do not have the maturity to handle the responsibility that comes with it. *

I agree, but in my town there are more than 32,000 registered guns and I would say most people overwhelmingly are law-abiding gun owners, if they were not, there would be chaos every 5 min.

*And real adults do not listen and fall for the hysterical lies of a shrieking loudmouth panic-inducing greedy Robiespeare either. *

Well, that’s your personal opinion

Wayne LaPierre thru his LIES and greed is a terror-mongering Enemy of the Public. A scourge on America.

Again, that is a subjective opinion on how you personally feel. You cannot say or determine who is crazy or who’s the liar or who’s dumb for following someone you disagree with.

Some of us like the man.

That sound very pro- gun control

Should 18-year olds be able to possess semi autos? I can't get a direct answer. If it wasn't for Kyle Rittenhouse having his AR he'd be dead now. So should 18-year olds be allowed to carry semi autos? Can we get a direct answer?

Also nishikat:

Then how can kids protect themselves against mass shooters? The cops (were they scared or something???) didn't enter the school for an entire hour.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

If Biden proposes gun licensing measures at least equivalent to getting a car license in Japan, with written and practical testing, inspections etc., would you support it?

Not one bit. I would need to see my government get out of the war, weapons, and global policemen business, take that cash and reinvest it into our own nation before I could even begin to trust them with the freedom of its citizens. I know the corporate narrative is only gun control, not healthcare, or useless parents, but they are all in on the “look!, a squirrel” so no way should the warmongering US government be trusted…yet.

Will there also be security at other places kids congregate? Parks, pools, beaches, churches?

Yes, those are called "police". we should fund them properly, right?

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

To provide armed security at just K-12 schools in the US would require at least one million newly armed and trained guards.

Less, you go to the most violent and troubled schools where you have more gang presence, shootings, stabbings, robberies, and just employ one of two peace officers to gaurd these locations, add metal detectors, if the US can send $41 trillion to help Ukraine and write checks with money we don’t have, just let’s see if this administration will puts our tax doller to real good use and not send it off to some foreign country that is giving us zero benefits.

They’re going to be heroes and risk their lives working for how much $ an hour?

Will there also be security at other places kids congregate? Parks, pools, beaches, churches?

That’s different when it comes to churches, some people do pack a piece, parks and schools, depends, but usually not because people have a lot of room to run and hide and to seek shelter.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

OK Bob, correct me then. First, define "Assault Weapon". Then tell me which ones are sold. I used to be in the military and we were issued assault weapons. They are not the same as weapons available to the general public.

Again and again the same nonsensical logic that somehow single parent families, drug abuse, minorities and mental illness are to blame whilst they exist in EVERY country

But the difference is, the gang culture and the high crime rate and the fact that these Democrats run cities don’t do anything about their out of control violence is astounding.

in the world.

We are talking about the US, every country is different and they don’t have the 2nd amendment and we do, thankfully.

And EVERY country in the world except the US doesn’t have mass shootings at anywhere near the same level.

And most countries don’t have the first amendment like we do either.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

What law could we bring in to reduce mass shootings in schools?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

For those who say we don't love our children are full of it. I love my family and will protect them with all means if some moron breaks into my home. Only ignorant people will say we don't love our kids and family.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

we have just seen that we cant fully count on armed police to protect us from armed criminals.

So as long as criminals have guns, I will too.

odd that the "what about the children" crowd makes excuses for kids being killed in Chicago nearly every weekend. then the topic changes from the shooter or the victims to where the gun came from.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Mental illness + lockdowns + social media = toxic brew for teens.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

The gun owners I know would sacrifice a hundred schools to keep them.

If you make that argument then you can say the same thing about our most violent cities with the stricktest gun laws. They know it and the rest of us do as well.

Literally. They feel naked without them and they are driven by their own fear.

So that’s Newsom, Light foot’s and Adam’s excuse??

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Do NRA/Trump/Abbot/FOX people have a problem with people who are 18 having semi auto rifles? The kind that were used in these two recent school shootings? They are adults, right? And 2A says ".....shall not be infringed", right?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Get tough and strict on abortions and the leftists quickly quip that abortions will be done illegally yet they change their tune when it comes to more proposed gun control laws as if in some magical unicorn universe it won't happen with firearms.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

“He won’t”.

-7 ( +12 / -19 )

When you hear someone say “You can’t take my guns, I’m a responsible gun owner, I keep my guns locked up, don’t blame me because someone else abused guns” just replace the word ‘gun’ with ‘slave’ and it’s clear what to do.

This is illogical.

Sure would like to see some gang bangers comments about gun control. You know, the irresponsible urban dwellers who shoot up their own streets on a daily basis. It’s rather funny to watch the MSM open their anti-gun playbook when an insane human snaps, but the daily shootings over a pair of tennis shoes goes unreported.

-9 ( +13 / -22 )

They favor leaders like Putin and oppose many democratic principles, for example free elections and respecting their results.

Well that went off the rails by the end didn’t it??

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

Don’t believe anyone who says most Americans don’t want this.

Most Americans do want certain minimal changes pertaining to guns

When you hear someone say “You can’t take my guns, I’m a responsible gun owner, I keep my guns locked up, don’t blame me because someone else abused guns” just replace the word ‘gun’ with ‘slave’ and it’s clear what to do.

There’s really not a lot Biden can do on this issue, don’t believe him when he tells you he’s going to do something, Ok, do what?

Sup is right, the GOP doesn’t trust the Democrats on this issue because it’s the only issue that they want to discuss and none of the other important ones that go with issue involving the shooter and disturbed people like him and the Democrats do not have a good record when it comes to gun safety and handling crime within their own cities, so based on that it won’t happen.

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

And the Buffalo shooting is in the second paragraph. again. That one is just too “convenient” for the narrative to let go.

-13 ( +9 / -22 )

He has a pen, paper and a desk, it only takes one signature to ban all assault rifles.
