Biden in call with China's Xi raises human rights, trade

Well, that sounds great. Lets hope he does more than "raising" somthing in a phone call.

Meanwhile, within the first few days in office, he has re-allowed the CCP into sensitive infrastructure, re-joined the CCP dominated WHO, prohibited using the word "China" in connection with the Corona virus, and re-allowed the CCP-run "Confucius Institute" back into US universities. All of if on the CCP wishlist, and probably there is more if you look closer.

Do words speak louder than actions?

One area that Biden doesn’t appear ready to move quickly on is discontinuing Trump’s trade war with China, which led to tariffs on their steel, aluminum and other goods.

The non-populists are starting to realize that tariffs can be good.

Yet another big mess left by Trump for Biden to have to clean up.

Don't think so. Just go over to the Trumpstore.com and see how many Chinese-made items you can buy...

Now that's action...

Biden also pressed Xi on Hong Kong, human rights abuses against Uighur and ethnic minorities in the western Xinjiang province, and its actions toward Taiwan.

“I told him I will work with China when it benefits the American people," Biden posted on Twitter after the call.

Well, how about that.

Early days but not yet the doom and gloom we keep hearing is already cast in stone.

All of if on the CCP wishlist, and probably there is more if you look closer.

Yeah, sure. Probably. That sounds legit.

Human Rights should be at the forefront of China policy. There has not been a mass incarceration policy based solely on ethnicity since the Holocaust.

And we should permanently place an aircraft carrier battle group in the South China Sea.

The CCP looks to exploit weakness. Show them none.

"When it benefits the American people" which is to say "climate change", nothing else they do benefits (other than cheaper priced goods so Americans can buy more crap). CCP has already been pushing "leave our "internal affairs" alone or we will do nothing on climate change" line.

Good luck Joe, going to have to be a different line than 'normal' China policy has followed for 40 years to change anything.

Talking with China is only a delay tactic while the free world teams up to address undesired behaviors from that country.

The UN is ineffectual.

The good/bad news on this is that the free world will also be able to influence American war aggression, which all the war-making countries won't like. After all, war is good for business. Sell your LM, BAE, Boeing, Raytheon, Halliburton, Northrop Grumman and GD stock folks.

he has re-allowed the CCP into sensitive infrastructure,

How so? Be specific.

Confucian Institutes were never disallowed. Mr. Trump proposed that universities disclose their agreements with these institutes and how much they were paid. That is on hold pending a review of overall Chines language instruction at US universities seeking ways to remove Chinese influence from them. In any event the GAO already has 90 such agreements from their own research and many of those represent Confucian institutes that have since closed, as there are now 55 active Confucian Institutes on US college campuses. With the GAO already in possession of the necessary information the rule was rendered moot.

The non-populists are starting to realize that tariffs can be good.

Tariffs are never a good thing. The difference in price between the good in a free market and the same good under a tariff regime represents a deadweight loss to the economy. Tariffs only serve to reward inefficient, backward and lazy industries unable to compete head to head with the best.

Prove what you said with statements from Chinese officials. You cannot.

The CCP has purely internal reasons to promote stronger environmental regulation within China. The pollution the Chinese people face, the lack of drinkable tap water, dangerous chemicals in their foods, dead pigs floating down the Yangtse River past Shanghai, the pea soup smog, all of that has become a threat to the ability of the CCP to maintain its power within China. The Chinese also lack traditional energy resources like oil, natural gas and coal within their own borders so they pursue renewable energy sources they can control within their own borders.

You bet they are - paying $125 for a 75 cent tie made in Shanghai? You have to be a real Moron to fall for that...

I dont buy Trump ties, and nobody forces you to do so. In either case, the Trump fortune is not based on selling silly souvenir nicknacks.

Trump sure didn't take one "anti-CCP measure" - cancelling his millions he gives to them in business contracts...

So you are oblivious of the very same tariffs that your fellow Trump haters are non-stop complaining about? You missed their complaints about the "trade war" with CCP China that the orange man started? You missed his banning Huawei from the 5G market and his banning of CCP companies from sensitive infrastructure projects (now reversed by Biden)? You might want to align talking points with your friends.

@Desert Tortoise -

From Newsweek;

"China is ready to cooperate with the United States and the international community on climate change," China's foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said last Thursday.

He added: "That said, I would like to stress that China-U.S. cooperation in specific areas... is closely linked with bilateral relations as a whole. China has emphasized time and again that no one should imagine they can ask China to understand and support them in bilateral and global matters when they blatantly interfere in China's domestic affairs and undermine China's interests."

This was the easiest direct quote, but I suspect if I looked I would find a few more. Maybe you read this different than me, that is fine.

Absolutely wrong. You believe collected revenue magically disappears? LOL, no. It's collected by the govt as "money," which can then spend locally or nationally, such as redistribution to working families. In the process, vulnerable local industries facing unfair competition from communist non-free-trading heavily subsidized juggernaut industries overseas are protected.

After a quarter century free trade, we now know that it benefits a tiny number of billionaires and lots of communists -- and very few others. The neo-libs love their stagnation.

Japan needs to be able to fend for itself. It cannot count on the U.S. to stop the CCP's growing threat. That growing threat has made its way into the highest levels of the U.S. government. U.S. Rep. Eric Swallwell is the tip of the iceberg.

I dont buy Trump ties,

Your ex-President does - made with pride in Shanghai. Bet Pence did too - until Jan 6th....

He gives the CCP millions of dollars every year to make his Trump Collection clothing line - cheating US workers out of jobs...

We get that you're OK with that...

LET'S STAND TOGERTHER AGAINST CRUELTY OF CCP !!

Its high time we all must stand together. Not only people of Hong-Kong but people of Xinjiang, Tibet and numerous others have become the victim of the cruelty of CCP. Now Mr. President has threatened CCP about the trade when it was able to identify CCP true face and considering the CCP its cruelty towards other countries, cruelty towards its own citizens. It has abolished the rights of its own country and now it has implemented the same in Hong- Kong too. I thing not only US but every country must cut the trade from such a cruel country. We all must take stand for them who aren't able to raise there voice by the governmental pressure.
