Biden: Hey, Xi and Putin. You guys wanna talk about global climate?

Xi: Aren't you and Japan getting in my way from taking over Taiwan?

Putin: Didn't you Also Call me a "Ruthless killer?"

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Why would Putin be interested in anything Biden has to say?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Now, will Biden be polite when he is lectured about how his stealing money from the ME leader in renewable energy (Iran) and Venezuela to reduce the ridiculously high carbon footprint of the US isn't exactly what leadership on the environment (or obeying the rules) looks like?

Seriously, that $2 trillion over 30 years is pretty close to what neutral economists estimate that the US will seize from Iran and Venezuela over 30 years. And the ICJ has rejected every argument that the US put forward to try and show that it's 'sanctions' on Iran weren't just outright theft.

Good on Biden! However, he must know Russia's wealth and power is based primarily on its huge oil, gas and coal reserves, and on its global expansion aimed at increasing its control of oil, gas and their shipment.

But at least Biden's trying to start a discussion on climate change, one of the biggest problems the globe is facing.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Biden cancelled a pipeline meant to carry heavy crude from Canada and the US has now increased imports of heavy crude from........Russia; pure genius.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Why would Biden want to sit at the same table as Putin "the killer"?

Because in this case the end (saving humanity from a certain doom) justifies the means (discussing the subject with a dictator).

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

@Jsapc Try toning down the hyperbole a bit. Global warming, climate change, climate emergency, climate crisis, and now the existential threat is hardly going to doom humanity.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

People who criticized Biden for not taking on Putin’s invite to a debate (over what????) will now criticize him for the invite for talks.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Biden cancelled a pipeline meant to carry heavy crude from Canada and the US has now increased imports of heavy crude from........Russia; pure genius.

That would indeed be preposterous... If ift was true. Biden hasn't "increased" anything, the imports of crude oil from Russia have been on the rise since last year, when the US stopped the imports from Venezuela. The gap left by venezuelan oil was then filled by Russia. But the Biden administration is actually actively thinking about ways to replace with and there was talk of sanctions on russian crude oil in the very near future as punishment for the meddling in last year's election.

The Keystone pipeline cancellation was perfectly justified if you take the time to actually read about its very numerous issues.

Wrong , obviously not a genius!!!

You obviously have no idea what your grandchildren will have to face if climate change isn't stopped. There is no hyperbole here. Please educate yourself.

Good point. Worrying the global fossils running the global economy keep businesses and homes so reliant on burning fossil fuels.

Long, long passed time to shift away from the fossil economy, away from burning so much fuel.

Fossil fuels will continue to be burned way into the future, wasting that resource, too.

But the world needs to burn less, conserve more, and find alternatives. Unless of course we want the same fossils - the 1%ers - to continue running things.

And continue their same wars over their control.

@Jsapc A link to an alarmist book review from the Guardian hardly makes your case that my as yet to be conceived grandchildren will be dead before they are born.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

@PTownsend

I am all in on not burning oil for energy, lets get some nuclear power plants operating ASAP.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

If you want to meet him you have to go to him or meet online. Don't expect Joe to fly overseas if he can't fly a few states away.

A link to an alarmist book review from the Guardian hardly makes your case that my as yet to be conceived grandchildren will be dead before they are born.

This isn't a book review, it's an excerpt from a book. Thank you for proving you haven't read past the first three lines.

But here's another link, if you want:

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/09/the-worst-case-climate-change-scenario-could-look-like-this-we-need-to-avert-it/

If you want to meet him you have to go to him or meet online. Don't expect Joe to fly overseas if he can't fly a few states away.

Last month he went to Michigan, Wisconsin, Maryland and Texas. This month Pennsylvania, Georgia and Ohio. So what in god's name are you talking about?

Are you just dissapointed he doesn't go back to his private country club/golf course at every occasion?

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Smart move by Biden.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Well, this should be fun to watch. Wonder if Putin will ask Joe to his face if he’s up to answering his previous dodged challenge.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Well, this should be fun to watch. Wonder if Putin will ask Joe to his face if he’s up to answering his previous dodged challenge.

This is a good opportunity to remind you that in 2014 Biden told Putin to his face that he had "no soul". Contrary to the previous president, Biden is neither in awe nor scared of the russian president.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Biden can’t wait to give the Chinese a sweet deal that allows them to build hundreds of coal and oil fired power plants that allows them to devour America’s economy while he insists his fellow citizens live with unpredictable windmills and routine blackouts.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

This is a good opportunity to remind you that in 2014 Biden told Putin to his face that he had "no soul".

And then? But as VP them I’m sure he installed the fear of God in him when he said that.

Contrary to the previous president, Biden is neither in awe nor scared of the russian president.

Given to what we watched yesterday I’d be very surprised if he even remembers who Putin is.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

And then?

He is and will always be much tougher on Russia then the previous president. Granted, that's not a very hard hurdle to pass.

Given to what we watched yesterday I’d be very surprised if he even remembers who Putin is.

No idea what you're talking about, but as long as Biden still knows the difference between "oranges" and "origins", we're still all safer than during the previous administration.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

You really can't make this up.

No, you actually can't because it's reality. Thank you for agreeing with the science!

Why would Putin be interested in anything Biden has to say?

The answer is to resurrect George W, whose Bushisms made all his atrocities almost bearable. Remember, "The future will be better tomorrow."

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Well, it makes sense to invite both Russia and China Government.

The Russian Federation is the third globally in the production of fossil fuels.

Implications of the Global Energy Transition on Russia

However, it is a question of compliance and trust.

In the Government of China case, it is fully at ease in choking a sizable proportion of city dwellers to death

Neither the Russian or Chinese Governments signature on any agreement can be trusted.

The danger is Vladimir Putin/Xi Jinping will take advantage.

Potentially viewing the Biden/Harris administration as a soft touch.

Vladimir Putin/Xi Jinping will be keen to score political points.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Jsapc: Because in this case the end (saving humanity from a certain doom) justifies the means (discussing the subject with a dictator).

You can’t possibly believe the ‘12 years until the end of the world’ foolishness (nine now.). How many predictions of doom and gloom have to fail to materialize before the extremist chicken little talk starts to ring hollow? The Arctic ice cap still exists eight years after Al Gore predicted it would be completely gone. The average global temperature has only gone up less than 1 degree celsius since 1880. The temperature was going up anyway due to the end of the Little Ice Age. Use your critical thinking skills. There is warming but humanity is better off concentrating on reducing poverty. The warming isn’t catastrophic.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

He is and will always be much tougher on Russia then the previous president. Granted, that's not a very hard hurdle to pass.

As long as he has his name list and a matching photo and can remember who our nemesis’s are, perhaps.

No idea what you're talking about,

That’s ok, Biden didn’t either.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/10/09/reference/japan-continues-rely-coal-eyes-coal-fired-plants-despite-global-criticism/

The pollution from Japanese coal-fired plants generally blows eastward, into the Pacific. Japan has also increased its exports of coal-fired plants to developing countries, providing ODA for financing.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The temperature was going up anyway due to the end of the Little Ice Age.

You are of course completely wrong on all accounts, but :

There is warming but humanity is better off concentrating on reducing poverty.

Climate change will only accelerate and worsen poverty around the whole world. Which in turn will start conflicts and wars all around. The Pentagon itself ranks climate change as a national security priority. If you claim to better understand climate change than the vast majority of scientists and the Pentagon, the only thing I can do is ignore you.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

What your saying is when Trump met with dictators and praised them it was perfectly acceptable, but a Democrat isn’t allowed to do so. Makes perfect sense.

Biden and Obama did, so trying is good, but now that Biden is President, does he know who these people are?

What you mean is that Biden isn’t obsessed with Putin the way Trump is. We agree. Kudos!

I think Biden is more obsessed with taking a nap. You keep bringing Trump up, now if he were in the WH I get, but he’s not Biden is, so let’s focus on the current President, if Biden can’t even handle a simple speech, how can he handle Putin or even Xi? Don’t even mention Kamala, they’ll just laugh and walk away.

I am all in on not burning oil for energy, lets get some nuclear power plants operating ASAP.

Good on the first part.

The world needs to get serious about conservation, about finding ways to generate electricity without doing so much damage to the environment, about finding more efficient ways to transmit electricity and store energy. While decommissioning nuclear power plants.

Perhaps if the globe's rulers could get their respective scientists, engineers and technicians focused on improving life for the majority of people instead of using them to build ever more destructive weaponry to fight wars for the benefit of the globe's 1%....

Good on Biden! However, he must know Russia's wealth and power is based primarily on its huge oil, gas and coal reserves, and on its global expansion aimed at increasing its control of oil, gas and their shipment.

Thankfully, US and EU sanctions have forced Russia to diversify its economy away from energy production.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

joey stalin, indeed the energy market has high value to Japanese economy.

Even more so that 2018.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The fact that Biden hasn't written any love letters to Xi yet is a goddamn disgrace. Doesn't he know that's what he has to do to get the approval of the right for his foreign policy? Clearly Biden doesn't care about bipartisanship. Not single love letter. Not one.

You obviously have no idea what your grandchildren will have to face if climate change isn't stopped. There is no hyperbole here. Please educate yourself.

Reliable satellite data on average atmospheric temperatures, available since 1979 show a one-fifth of a degree temperature rise (over 40+ years)..

Roy Spencer is a kook who supports "intelligent design" over the theory of evolution. I would rather trust the vast majority of the scientific community than what he says.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Can you please post provable facts about Biden's supposed senility or degrading cognitive skills?

You didn’t watch that train wreck that was unfolding yesterday, he had to constantly look at his notes in order answer properly and matching faces to the questions as well as who to call on and who not to call on? Yeah, degrading is a sad understatement.

Still about ‘sleepy’ Joe huh?

Yes.

Explain how he won again. Be careful not to mention election fraud though or you’ll get cancelled like Sidney and Rudy.

No, because I’m not a lawyer, so I have no reason or legal authority to litigate the case.

More data is available at https://www.nsstc.uah.edu/climate/

You can rely on narratives supplied by known fools, like Al Gore, according to whose predictions we are already extinct, or examine the data and draw your own conclusions.

Trump doesn’t even know where his own father was born, or simply cannot control his impulse to lie. It’s not as if his father wasn’t a large enough influence on Trump’s life that Trump wouldn’t actually know.

Ok, relax I know you hate Trump, it Biden is now President, so what’s his excuse?

But, yeah, let’s go in on your armchair psychiatric evaluation.

I’m not a shrink or even a neurologist, I just saw what everyone else saw, a disaster even a 10 year old could have seen it.

Like Trump was with TV and Twitter? That obsessed?

I get it, yeah, yeah, Orange man bad but now that Biden is in office why would Democrats allow this to continue?

The one that is cleaning up Trump’s messes? Good idea, but we need a comparator, so Trump is a necessary part of the conversation.

Ok, so how does that help people? Other than venting or deflecting, banging on Trump doesn’t help or impact the average American, but Biden (who’s the POTUS) does.

President Donald John Trump capitulating to and appeasing Putin. Biden should just do the same. You people loved it then, so shouldn’t have asinine issue if Biden does it.

And Biden seemingly now being less capable (and tired) as he looks, how can this man deal with a growing threat like China? Try not to veer on Trump he’s not President, Biden is for better or definitely worse.

Biden cancelled a pipeline meant to carry heavy crude from Canada and the US has now increased imports of heavy crude from........Russia; pure genius.

That pipeline would've infringed and polluted Native American reservations, in violation of treaties. Of course Dirtbag Diaper Boy signed for it to happen in 2017 because it would've benefitted him and his ego and he HATES Native American people, as well as everybody else.

Joe may be the oldest POTUS but he has more intelligence and class than that sassybrat motormouth Mussolini thug who can't do anything but commit crimes, shoot off the mouth like a machine gun and act like a spoiled baby.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why did Biden not invite the democratically elected Lady President of 'ally', like minded and democratic ROC-TW?

President English Tsai is certainly not a dictator nor a killer so what gives, Joe?

As I said all along, da-kine Washingjing and Beijington are super silent and special partners.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

*He should. And since Joe is not a sputnik it's time for Putin and the rest of the world's leaders to *wake up and smell the coffee.

Ohhh, I think they did.

*That pipeline would've infringed and polluted Native American reservations, in violation of treaties. *

A bit more complicated, short term, but not long term. But it’s still coming, it’s just coming by rail will is less clean and definitely environmentally unfriendly, not to mention the lawsuits that are piling up in the States from workers, contractors and Canada as well. Idiots.

Of course Dirtbag Diaper Boy signed for it to happen in 2017 because it would've benefitted him and his ego

No, millions of Americans as well as Canadians, everything from your smartphone to paint, your carper, cups trash bags the books you read all have oil components, there is no way the left is going to stop it unless you want to take a glass of water with you everywhere you go or hold out your hands to take a sip.

*and he HATES Native American people, as well as everybody else. *

Prove it!

Joe may be the oldest POTUS but he has more intelligence

But he needs a photo list of journalists with their names to help him identify who and which one to call on, that’s frightening.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

US has been paying lips service to the Paris deal for climate change all these years, now they are trying to initiate talk with the other two major powers on climate change matters. What pretentiousness ! How not to be flabbergasting ..?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Oh wait, I meant, I would see no reason why Putin would NOT come.

Maybe Putin could start sending love letters. It would be BIGLY appreciated.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You can rely on narratives supplied by known fools,

By known fools like, for the third time, the vast majority of the scientific community? The real question is, why do you choose not to trust the science?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_consensus_on_climate_change

Nearly all actively publishing climate scientists (97–98%) support the consensus on anthropogenic climate change, and the remaining 2% of contrarian studies either cannot be replicated or contain errors. A 2019 study found scientific consensus to be at 100%.

What do you possibly have to gain by not listening to the scientists?

If you get lung cancer, are you going to trust the oncologists and doctors in the hospitals, or random people on the internet?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You didn’t watch that train wreck that was unfolding yesterday,

If you saw that as a "train wreck", what should people call the previous president's absolutely insane press conferences? Nuclear catastrophies of Tchernobyl proportions? Yeah, that sounds right. (By the way, have you tried injecting bleach to fight corona lately?)

You really have no leg to stand on for the senility argument, even Fox News is going at it half-heartedly, so you should try to find something more relevant.

There is something seriously wrong going with Biden's cogitative/speech abilities. And we need to be talking about. It is getting serious. Ands he is talking about running again in 2024.

Two President's back to back that can not talk right.

How has the environment improved will less Jets in the sky? I wonder these things.

Biden doesn’t need to come up with an excuse

No, but his handlers are trying to desperately find one.

That democrats are in office is exactly why Trump isn’t running the country

And so far, heaven help us, they’re doing an abysmal job.

Exaclty! Biden is getting things done

Done as in completely destroying our cultures and institutions, I think so.

Easy. Biden just needs to take the same actions

He won’t, he won’t lower taxes or finish the wall or strengthening the our military, China and Russia seem happy with it.
