Mr. Biden should politely tell the Repubelicken caucsucus that he is not going to be held hostage by them, either lift the debt ceiling in a clean bill or he will invoke the 14th Amendment Article 4 that mandates the public debt be honored. There is a very good argument to be made based on the US Constitution that it is unconstitutional for Congress to refuse to honor the national debt.

Funny how Repubs had no issue with raising the debt ceiling when Trump was president.

A husband and wife are having a discussion of their household finances…

Husband (who wears red MAGA hat):  OK, we’re way too much in debt, so I’ve unilaterally decided that we must cut our expenses next year - less on food, less on utilities, less on cable TV…..and unless you sit down and agree with me on these, I’m going to refuse to pay our credit cards and mortgage…

Wife:  What?  Unless I agree with you, you plan to refuse to pay our debts and ruin our credit, force us into bankruptcy, and condemn us to life-long poverty?

Husband:  Yes, because it's your debt.

Wife:  Mine?  Who went on that 4-day trip to the MAGA rally in Tennessee last year all on the credit card?  And who bought that 70 inch flat screen so they could watch Tucker on credit?

Husband: OK, so some of it is mine - but I still refuse to pay our bills unless you agree with me….

Wife:  OK, I'll agree with you on next year’s budget on one condition…

Husband:  What?

Wife:  You give me a divorce by; the end of this year - you’re a self-destructive irresponsible idiot…

The Repubes used to play the same sort of games every year at budget time when they still had just over 1/3 of both houses of the State Legislature and the California Constitution at the time requires a 2/3 majority vote of both houses to pass a budget. All the garbage ideas of theirs that would never make it out of a committee during the regular legislative session became bargaining chips to pass a budget. As a result budget deadlines were missed year after year and the state would go weeks, even months unable to pay its bills.

Finally the public had enough of their annual hostage taking and voted in a constitutional amendment that, like 47 other states, allowed the legislature to pass a budget on a simple majority vote. There hasn't been a late budget since, and not incidentally there have been budget surpluses ever since. The Repubes always wanted taxes cut as a condition of passing a budget so the state's finances were always a mess.

Now the state is sitting on a $100 billion rainy day fund due to annual budget surpluses and the citizens of California are so disgusted with the Repubes that the are less than 1/3 of either house of the State Legislature and hold no statewide offices.

So now the Repubes are playing the same games on a national scale. What a despicable mob they are!

and Vice versa.

Good, with Biden’s approval in the toilet let him further destroy his polling by doing more spending and blank check writing

There is a very good argument to be made based on the US Constitution that it is unconstitutional for Congress to refuse to honor the national debt.

We shall see.

Spending limits are only important to the GQP when Democrats are in power.

It will be Congress that defaults, Specifically the House. So this will fall squarely on the nuttiest of nuts in the GQP.

the buck stops with Biden. he said so.

Biden told reporters before the meeting began: "We're going to get started, solve all the world's problems."

How about starting with the Southern border?

So what have the Dems spent money on that Americans can say, good job Mr. President?

It will be Congress that defaults, Specifically the House.

Ok, More spending, no wonder the Dems lost the House.

So this will fall squarely on the nuttiest of nuts in the GQP.

Not in the Long run.

There are very likely 5 sane Republicans who will realize that the debt limit is about past spending already authorized by Congress.

They will realize the consequences of a default both on their party and upon the nation.

About time to familiarize yourself with the details of a discharge petition.

Why were not Marjory Tayler Greene and Lauren Boebert at that meeting, they are the real leaders of the House, not that wimp McCarthy.
