How much actual combat experience do they have?

How much actual combat experience do they have?

How much combat experience did Dwight D. Eisenhower have?

2. Eisenhower never saw active combat.

Although he spent 35 years in the military and served during both world wars, Eisenhower never saw a single day of active combat.

"Each of these women have led careers demonstrating incomparable skill, integrity and duty to country,"

Respect to both. But still the US needs to dramatically cut back military spending.

First comment did not disappoint.

Good luck to both of them and I hope they do a fantastic job.

I guess Russia will be very interested in their mensural cycles.

"How much combat experience did Dwight D, Eisenhower have?"

Not enough and he wasn't very good good general in terms to battlefield tactics and was asleep at the switch several times. He was lucky but he was not a very good general. He was asleep at the switch a few times during WWII.

"He was the best file clerk I ever had." . . . Gen. Douglas MacArthur

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

I think we all know why they were chosen.

"He was the best file clerk I ever had." . . . Gen. Douglas MacArthur

I'll take the 'file clerk' who oversaw the organization of DDay over a narcissist like MacArthur whose arrogance resulted in so many unnecessary deaths.

But, according to the Times, the announcement was delayed until after the November presidential election because former defense secretary Mark Esper feared then-president Donald Trump would not approve the generals' nomination due to their gender.

Mind-reading by the new docile press. Even in a completely unrelated event, they still try to get in some Trump bashing.

Okay.

I think we all know why they were chosen.

Because they are qualified. Unless you have some magical knowledge the Pentagon lacks, I’ll go with the pros on this one.

As a military vet I can tell you that it's true. When you take a promotion exam, you are just a number and you 'fill in the little bubbles' with your pencil and you don't pick the pencil up until the monitor says so!

Race, ethnivcity, gender means zero. You do have command recommendations but there are no 'token' anythings in the service.

Gen. Colin Powell is not a 'token Black' nor is the new Biden cabinet appointee. Women have been in combat since the 1994 Haiti invasion, and Adm. Grace Hopper was a pioneer for computer science. She was not a 'token female' either.

You can really separate those that served here and those that have not.

The sheer disrespect of some comments here is disgusting.

Do you know how hard it is to get to these ranks?

Then I have been out to pasture some 20 plus now. But a woman pinning on one star. There was time it was really unheard of. Unfathomable.

This is a proud moment for all woman serving.

I may not agree with Biden. And sandbagging these promotions in the Pentagon in fear of blow back from Former President Trump was the right call tactically. Congratulations to the hard working military woman no matter what's pinned on the collar. I would stand next to you any day proudly.

For those that came before you woman, Those mavericks and to those serving today and those who serve in future.

Gender means nothing. Love of country is everything.

Semper Fi.

". . . so many unnecessary deaths."

Compared to what? The number of enemy corpses? From the Marshall Islands to Guadalcanal to the Philippines to Iwo Jima and finally Okinawa. These victories were all achieved through MacArthur's planning. He got the job done from start to finish and he did it with the second front mentality which put a lower priority on Tojo than Hitler. A bad general? You've got to be kidding.

"Each of these women have led careers demonstrating incomparable skill, integrity and duty to country," Biden said while presenting the two generals during a short speech at the White House.

"Today is International Women's Day, and we all need to see and to recognize the barrier-breaking accomplishments of these women," he added.

I look forward to more people identifying as female and individuals of color ordering unmanned combat vehicle strikes on Third World countries.

If the Senate confirms their nominations,

Wow. never knew that the Senate had to confirm Pentagon positions.

Busy folks , those senators.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

So, the nominations for promotion were held back until Trump left office. Pretty much says it all. But Trump is no sexist... /s

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Massive underrepresentation of LGBTIQ++ in the top tiers of the American Military.

Biden better fix that.

Because that has to start from the ground up - by allowing those recruits to sign up in the first place, so they can start to work their way up

If they're not even allowed to sign up, then they can't even start to prove their worth - and there's nobody to work their way up

Hopefully they’ll address the fact that the military is teeming with far-right nations and sexual assault.

General Van Ovost is a test pilot.  She is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and is a command pilot with more than 4,200 hours in more than 30 aircraft, including the C-32A, C-12C, C-17A, C-23A, C-141B/A, KC-135R, KC-46A, F-15B, F-16B, T-1A, T-37B and T-38A. She commanded an aerial refueling squadron and flew missions in support of combat forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

LtGen Richardson is a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot with combat experience and the Combat Action Badge to show for it. She also has an Air Assault Badge and Basic Parachutist Badge, so she passed "Jump School" too.

I guess Russia will be very interested in their mensural cycles.

Yes, but these women probably are passed that. They certainly will try to track it. Normal people don't understand just how deep tracking of key leaders really goes, by every possible opponent.

It is times like this I'm so happy we don't have Microsoft servers anywhere in our company.

Every military officer has to be confirmed. They do them en-masse a few times yearly. They are listed in the congressional record for the Senate, by full name.

Congratulations to both these women. You don't become a General or above without the skills, which include political skills.

I think

we all know why they were chosen.

Yes their primary qualification is their sex. Obviously Biden is making a big show of it announcing two women he happened to select at the exact same time and then announcing the importance of the fact that they are women. Verbally checking the box.

His entire party and the self admitted organizing principal of his administration is affirmative action. The only way that a White heterosexual male Dem like Biden can get elected on the national level now is by a sustained commitment to ideological self struggle. Raising up people that Dems have historically oppressed is the only way to obtain redemption for past sins. Dems are long past believing in meritocracy. It’s just funny when they pretend that they believe in equality.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Dems are long past believing in meritocracy.

Whereas the 'pub version of meritocracy is if you're white, you have merit, if you're not, you need to listen to this with merit.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Sovereign nations have never been bombed by a more diverse military command !

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Whereas the 'pub version of meritocracy is if you're white, you have merit, if you're not, you need to listen to this with merit.

How did you come to such a ridiculous conclusion? Republicans don’t push affirmative action and identity politics. Equality vs Equity.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Mind-reading by the new docile press. Even in a completely unrelated event, they still try to get in some Trump bashing.

So, were they wrong? Was it fake news? Lies?

If not, then why should you get to bash whomever you want, and the media can't?

Once again, far-right extremism showing it's hypocrisy.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

How did you come to such a ridiculous conclusion? Republicans don’t push affirmative action and identity politics. Equality vs Equity.

You know, basically everything they do, all their policies, the laws they push, the actions they perform, you know, basically their entireity.

Not that a hyper-partisan could ever admit it. They'd have to admit they themselves are a failure of a human being to support that. So they feign ignorance and try to pretend it doesn't exist.

How'd that work out in the 2020 election cycle?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Strangerland

So, were they wrong? Was it fake news? Lies?

Speculating on someones thoughts instead of reporting actual events is fake news by definition.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@zichi: Esper feared then-president Donald Trump would not approve the generals' nomination due to their gender.

The same President that had just nominated a woman to the Supreme Court? Where does this propaganda come from - the DNCC(P).

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

including in the just past $1.9 trillion bill passed without any Republican support.

Aww, they didn't pay attention to your obstructionism? That's too bad. Poor repubs. Maybe if you ask nicely, the 3/4 the population who overwhelmingly support Biden's bill will let you guys buy some tissues with the money.
