In the 70s it was global cooling. The panic buttons were constantly pushed. Underlying theme was we were all going to die. Then, that didn't work, so then it became global warming. Reapeat above about global cooling. That didn't work either. So now it's the all encompassing, climate change. How convenient.

It's mother nature doing what mother nature does.

Here's an informative TED talk on climate change by Kashmala Kakakhel. She explains climate change very well. https://youtu.be/dQLLXyFvQOE

Thomas Sowell nails it again, but this time on climate change.

In the 70s it was global cooling.

No it wasn't. I was around. There were a few discussions about global cooling, but a lot more concern about global warming.

Then, that didn't work, so then it became global warming.

Didn't work? What does that mean? Global warming concerns predate global cooling. Climate change is the more generic term that includes global warming. It encomases all the effects, not just the warming that was the main original concern (along with sea rise).

It's mother nature doing what mother nature does.

Umm, no. Mother nature does change climate, but the current runaway increases in global temperatures are man made.

Hey Trump climate deniers, Florida is already disappearing, and look at Miami and Key West as a start - housing situation there is getting worse than California. This is man made. It's happening much much faster than it would naturally. Insurance organizations are starting to refuse to cover coastal properties at a higher and higher rate. Get off the oil, and besides bad air kills.

Incorrect. Please do cursory research before posting; there is enough misinformation already.

Did you read the article you cited?

The theory picked up support from some pretty reputable scientists

So should we now believe the pretty reputable scientists today when the argument is that the pretty reputable scientists of yesteryear were wrong? Will tomorrow’s pretty reputable scientists claim that today’s pretty reputable scientists were wrong? I don’t point this out to say that human beings do not affect the weather to some extent but the certitude and the inability to tolerate dissent is very damaging to the scientific community. Scientists are unable to give an alternative viewpoint on climate change for fear of losing their livelihoods. That’s a serious problem and calls into question the entire global warming industrial complex that is worth trillions.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

How to trust US, when the next president can easily tear up any agreement.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

the entire global warming industrial complex that is worth trillions.

There is far more money spent to protect the fossil fuel status quo.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

The oil industrial complex is hundreds of times the size of the “global warming industrial complex”.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

So should we now believe the pretty reputable scientists today

Well, any Trump non Science person should believe what insurance industry is doing:

Watchdogs warn ‘hurricane tax’ could drive up Florida insurance rates

Your Flood Insurance Premium Will Probably Rise. Climate Change And Coastal Development Are To Blame

FEMA’S Upcoming Changes Could Cause Flood Insurance To Soar At The Shore

As the floodwaters rise, few homeowners are financially prepared

(news sources)

Hey Trump people, if you don't believe in the climate Science you are welcome to invest in a lot of Miami coast land since sea level rises are just an "illusion".

According to Science (yes, this is NOT Trump ideology) warmer waters are giving storms more and more energy and look at the recent trend in hurricanes as well as the above proof that even Trump people must accept of real dollars in real insurance industry. Climate change is accelerating like it never has before. Costal properties are becoming unlivable as the years go by rather than just Thousands of years later and the insurance industry knows this and eventually you will no longer be able to get flood insurance, which will mean you will be on your won.

For additional fun, check out Miami flooding on Youtube. Yes, that's right kids, that's reality and NOT Hollywood.

Scientists are unable to give an alternative viewpoint on climate change for fear of losing their livelihoods.

And what is the alternative view on what the insurance people are saying?

Methane, the main component of natural gas, is one of the most potent agents of climate damage, gushing up by the ton from countless uncapped oil and gas rigs, leaky natural gas pipelines and other oil and gas facilities.

The long-term, global trend for atmospheric methane is clear. The concentration of the gas was relatively steady for hundreds of thousands of years, but then started to increase rapidly around 1750. The reason is simple: increasing human populations since the start of the Industrial Revolution have meant more agriculture, more waste, and more fossil fuel production. Over the same period, emissions from natural sources have stayed about the same. The charts above, based on a combination of historical ice core data and air monitoring instrument data, depict the rate of increase.

Nishikat, without the federal flood insurance, real estate in America, would be worthless

Scientists are unable to give an alternative viewpoint on climate change for fear of losing their livelihoods.

No they aren't. If their research showed that the climate isn't warming out of control, they would get billions of funding from big oil.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

And if you don't think big oil money can't change people's minds, have a look at this. The GOP used to be the party of climate change action. And then they got bought out by the fossil fuel lobby.

Biden needs a good deflection, so it’s “climate change” time. Cause climate change is gonna kill us!

not the crime, inflation, homelessness and COVID that he is trying to deflect from. The Things that are actually killing us.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

Biden needs a good deflection, so it’s “climate change” time. Cause climate change is gonna kill us!

Biden has been talking about climate change for a long time. Just as he has been talking about other important issues as well. Not a deflection.

Only charlatans need deflections.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

not the crime, inflation, homelessness

Climate change brings this - a lot of it. The coast is disappearing (proof above). Less homes, more homelessness. More inflation. Trump people want to make this worse by outlawing abortions and creating even more homelessness with poor babies and mommies. Larry Elder just talked about bad Hillary, abortion, & election thefts. What does that have to do with anything? He's just entertaining his talk radio fans and self serving without any solution. What is the Trump solution to crime, inflation, and homelessness? Be specific.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Only charlatans need deflections.

which is why Biden needs deflections, point made.

Trump doesnt need to do anything to solve any of Biden's problems, as Biden is in charge now.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Climate change-deniers and flat-earthers...one and the same....

The fossil fuel industry manipulates them just like the far-right media and politicians do...

Just like with their denial of COVID and the vaccines, their Eureka moment will come as they're swept away in a flood...

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

It's about time.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

It’s very telling that the same people who gloat that Trump “lost” also ask what is Trump doing to fix the problems Biden is in charge of,

even Biden himself claims his failures are caused because Trump didn’t leave him a plan.

so we are all looking forward to Biden being held accountable for taking concrete action to combat climate change and being held accountable for his own results. Buck stops here! No blaming others.

In the 70s it was global cooling.

Incorrect. Please do cursory research before posting; there is enough misinformation already.

Right first time. In the 1970s scientists were predicting the coming ice age.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

‘Scientists’, eh? Was it a consensus view?

Yes it was. Similar to covid now.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

You falsely denigrated Trump to the lowest level but that mistake causes “better then Trump” to now mean nothing.

But that’s all you had, as Biden can’t exceed any actual measurable performance standards.

All of it only means that, at best, Biden is the 2nd worst President ever to 50% of the people. That’s not an achievement. But he’s in charge so he is accountable until he is gone.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Scientists’, eh? Was it a consensus view?

Yes it was

I’m afraid not. Sorry, the walls have closed in here. You aren’t arguing in good faith.

No point taking it further.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Was it a consensus view?

Yes it was.

Hmm, your memory might be failing you mate. You may want to fact check yourself on that one, as it's clear you didn't.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

You falsely denigrated Trump to the lowest level but that mistake causes “better then Trump” to now mean nothing.

Pretty much. He was the worst president ever. Any president looks amazing next to him. He even makes Bush 2 look good.
